Another thread to keep going!

OP posts:
HcbSS · 14/07/2024 23:59

I have run 4 times this week plus 3 body pump classes.

And I have made the decision I am going to start swimming again. I was a competitive swimmer until last year, when my beloved gran died and I developed a total mental block. I have had to have a season out. But with love, patience and care from my team and coach, I am now in a position to form a training plan and think towards competing again one day.
Losing swimming was another bereavement.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 15/07/2024 07:05

That’s good going, HcbSS. I’m very sorry about your gran. And I hope you can get back to swimming at the right time for you.

T25 ab intervals done. This is going to be quite a tough week, I have a lot on in the evenings so hoping to get the exercise in early in the week before I get too knackered.

I managed to squeeze in my run before the rain arrived (but only just). This week’s time is 28min 22sec.

BezMills · 15/07/2024 13:18

Combat on Sunday, was much better thanks to doing some Tom Morrison first. His social media marketing is so lit, but honestly I think he's the best. I routinely will just search "Tom Morrison Bodypart" on youtube for someone who has a dodgy elbow or shoulder etc, and there will be several useful videos for free.

It sounds like you have had a very tough time, *HcbSS. Flowers *I hope getting back to swimming brings some comfort. I used to find swimming very meditative- I could get into the pool and go (slowly) forever. Since I hurt my shoulder I still love the water but I am so distracted by whether or not my shoulder is in good shape that I can't enjoy it nearly as much. One day I hope...! Anyway, that day was not today, I had a swim at lunchtime but had to stop early because of said stupid shoulder niggling.

@HcbSS glad to hear you're getting back into your swimming. It must be double hard when you can't train.

I missed my s&c class today. First time I've been a no show in 18 months but work just took over and I completely missed it..raging. I went for a short run this evening instead.

Good step counts in Edinburgh Sat/Sun.
5 mile dog walk Monday.
5 mile dog walk today.

Unscheduled rest day yesterday, I just couldn’t drag myself out of bed and then didn’t get home till 10.30 last night. Today has got off to a better start: T25 total body circuit done. Two more workouts and then I’ve theoretically finished Alpha - need to decide whether to do one more week or move on to Beta.

3 mile WWL done

1 hour pilates class

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/07/2024 07:17

T25 cardio done. Does anyone else find that although you’re getting fitter the workouts never feel any easier?

I feel neither fitter nor that any exercise is getting easier, Professor!

I missed my swim yesterday due to work crap and decided to go out for dinner with DS instead of going for a run. It was a good idea.

S&c this morning and managed to up my bench press by 5kg which I was delighted about.

I just remembered I'm doing Pier2Pier on Saturday.

It's a 2 mile shoreside sea swim. I have barely been in the water since last summer. I can't fit into my go-faster wetsuit (pie related clothes shrinkage has been savage over winter), so will be swimming in my trusty but old Aldi general purpose job. I'm not massively looking forward to it, I have to admit.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 19/07/2024 07:33

Best of luck, @BezMills! It doesn’t sound altogether fun, but at least the weather isn’t meant to be bad.

You may not think you’re getting fitter, MotherForkin, but you’re obviously getting stronger.

T25 lower focus done, which gets me to the end of week 5. I’m just going to crack on with Beta next week, I think, rather than do another week of Alpha and dread it. I’m away for the weekend, so no exercise for me till Monday.

I actually just pulled out, I didn't feel good about doing the race at all. With hindsight, this was in the post for weeks - I've been spinning a lot of plates and just didn't make time for swimming training. I'll hope to do the swim next year, and actually be trained (and able to fit into my go-faster wetsuit!)

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/07/2024 22:43

Sounds like a sensible decision, Bez, open water is too risky if you're not feeling you're best.

Short run today between work shitshows. Needed to let off steam without being openly hostile to the idiots people on the team.

I forgot to post yesterday, I had a short but fast for me stress buster run whihc was hard and felt good. I'm away now until early next week for said stress inducer and although I brought my togs I doubt I'll have time to get to the hotel pool.

Back from a wet week in Cornwall 🙄. Nat Hayward strength workout done ☑️

BezMills · 27/07/2024 13:33

15th Boxercise, 18th+ 21st combat, boxercise 22nd, combat 25th, circuits today. 106

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 28/07/2024 09:30

Wow, well done BezMills! I had a completely unplanned week off - too knackered to exercise before work and worked late every evening. Hopefully back on it this week- I’m busy at work but only have myself to get out of the house each morning, not DD too.

Sorry your week in Cornwall was wet, roonetta - I’ve had a few of those.

T25 Beta core cardio done. Ugh. Not actually worse than the Alpha cardio, but pretty painful.

BezMills · 28/07/2024 11:38

Thanks @ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson

Circuits was horrible and I really felt it while doing combat this morning. 107 tho
