Another thread to keep going!

And I'm a long way off yours afaloren!
90 mins contemporary dance class this morning.
154.

Happleandhorange · 07/09/2025 10:06

Goodness, yes. I am toddling along in the rear. My accidental HIit bike experience, was 7km I think and that was quite enough for now!

Today I went back to local branch. It was great, I could find my way around and everything. I haven't been near the weights this week, I've just been doing cardio stuff, but mysteriously I was stronger at almost everything than before. It was nice to feel I am progressing. Also, I made time for a sauna, which is my Sunday rule now.

BezMills · 07/09/2025 10:20

That sounds great @Happleandhorange

Day of complete rest yesterday, and today nothing in particular planned. I'm working on clearing out my home office's gym end so I can do a couple things on the rings to help grip strength and the pullup type exercises.

Also trying to find a spot to store my bar so that it's easy to get to, and can be got out and put away without pulling a muscle, but not in the way. That's proving a challenge since it weighs 20 kg and is 7 foot long!

Happleandhorange · 08/09/2025 04:23

Oh. My. Word.

Today I had to visit art gallery in town so I thought I would make time for one of the two CBD gyms. It was lunchtime, so very busy. Everyone seemed to be in a huge rush. I realised why when I got to the car park and was charged for overstaying! Not impressed, I mean I had overstayed the 90 minutes slightly but I have a,disabled permit which usually means you are exempt. There were no disabled spaces either which seemed a bit mad.
I did Shapes. Which is a good class, I didn't do all of it but stayed until they started to torture the ankles. Then I went on the bike for a few minutes.

Happleandhorange · 08/09/2025 04:27

Um. Update. I still don't know how disabled parking works, but the reason my ticket didn't work was because I didn't put it in the right machine before returning to my car. The shame.

BezMills · 08/09/2025 05:47

Parking is a complete nightmare isn't it? I understand that they want to make sure it's allocated fairly and available when needed, and the charges could ideally be something to do with that. Other times, it's clearly a bit of a rort by private companies cashing in on any bit of crappy spare ground. We do our best to not get charged, but it happens to us about once every couple years nevertheless.

Well done on shapes. I was wondering about that class, because it replaced Barre, which was the class I loved most of all, even more than BodyCombat. Just call me Bezzy Elliot.

Happleandhorange · 08/09/2025 07:16

Yes! It was one of the questions I asked when joining, because obviously the disabled thing means that sometimes I struggle with mobility. At my home gym there is a really good arrangement, they don't charge disabled spaces for overrunning with time. But here the parking is run by a different company and Les mills just rents a floor there. So I imagine they have no control. Anyway, there's a supermarket down the road and I'll probably just use that next time!!!

Happleandhorange · 08/09/2025 07:19

Shapes is quite functional, if you know what I mean. No fuss, working through the different parts of the body in an orderly sort of way. But no overall concept like bodycombat. Ithink it will be really good for me when I get the strength to support my bodyweight on wrist again. I am going to try one of the home gym classes tomorrow.

afaloren · 08/09/2025 15:27

Car’s in the garage to (I hope) stop the suspension falling off a cliff so I did the new FitbyMik workout video on YouTube, strength and cardio. Can’t quite keep up with her even though she’s pregnant with twins!! She offers low-impact alternatives which is great.

tryingtobesogood · 08/09/2025 17:56

Had a work overload so something had to give and it was exercise. All back to normal now.

30 strength training class this morning, whole body. 1 hour walk at lunchtime.

Happleandhorange · 08/09/2025 21:27

Pregnant with twins! Gosh.

Walk and class sound great. Making up for lost time...

Alittlefrustrated · 08/09/2025 21:38

Happleandhorange · 09/09/2025 10:41

Nightmare today again, but medical. I am diabetic and had a low blood sugar episode through forgetting my mid-afternoon snack before heading to gym (I was drawing, distracted). I did 15 min of Bodycombat which was great, but I was a bit woozy and not keeping up with fastchanging movements. Didn't realise warning signs, headed to do stretches and weights: was struggling with the later ones and still didn't realise until I made a brief attempt at the elliptical and started feeling faint. Rushed downstairs and had the cereal bar I keep in car for emergencies - ten minutes later, still feeling awful, so I went across to Burger King and had dinner. Then apologetically explained to gym that I mustn't drive for a bit and please don't clamp me. They were very good. Home now. All very embarrassing.

BezMills · 09/09/2025 12:10

oh gosh that's a hard day. I've had a few non-diabetic blood-sugar crashes and faints, and it's horrible! Don't be hard on yourself, just one of those things.

Maybe even have another emergency sugary thing in your kit bag too for the future.

I had to get the instructor's emergency lucosade one time, after trying to keep up with the gym mums in a kettlebell class, I laugh about it now.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 09/09/2025 18:54

Glad you came.out of it OK, Happle, although it must have been scary at the time.

I can't remember when I last posted, but I had a sea swim on Friday and Sunday, s&c Saturday and yesterday and a run with ds this evening.

OP posts:
Happleandhorange · 09/09/2025 19:38

I feel better hearing the lucosade story, thank you!
I will put an emergency snack in my bag. I do have some sweets in there but in my confused way I thought it would be a bad idea to eat them if I wasn't literally collapsing. I'll leave them there, but add something else too.
Anyway. It was still no. 18!

Alittlefrustrated · 09/09/2025 20:19

All's well that ends well Happleandhorange. You won't forget that snack again!
40 x25m swim this morning
156.

Happleandhorange · 10/09/2025 02:54

No. 19 today. A very easy workout, well I say easy but the practicalities were complicated! It reminds me of my first gym visit when I did almost nothing but felt I'd conquered a huge mountain. I decided to try the At Home workouts. Disaster immediately struck as I accidentally turned the heating on instead of the aircon, so nearly boiled for five minutes until I realised.
It was useful and difficult. Useful in that I could watch the bodycombat routines up close, so learn them a bit better (I'm very uncoordinated so it's more bodyboppingaroundrandomly at the moment). Difficult in that there's a sofa there to stop and sit down on!
I did half the workout, which is about what I usually manage at gym anyway before I go off and do my own thing. It was good to practice kicks and things, without being afraid of hitting someone else.
I also rang the,CBD gym re parking. The parking company are happy for me to park on the bottom floor, to save me time getting there and back. So that's going to help.

Happleandhorange · 10/09/2025 03:12

I have to say, though, I am in awe of those of you who do the at home stuff as your regular diet. I hadn't realised the extent to which the gym environment was a motivating factor for me. I am obviously easily influenced to nap if there's a sofa in range!

BezMills · 10/09/2025 06:28

nice to see you back on it @Alittlefrustrated and getting some varied training in too @MotherForkinShirtBalls

@Happleandhorange doing the video classes can really help if you want to practice the moves, but definitely go to a live class once a week or so if you can. The instructor should be able to answer any questions before or after the class, if you are wondering about how to do certain things. There might even be things I can answer here, and I'm happy to do so, but the local instructors will anyway be far more experienced than me! I'm a little bit envious of you having the chance to train at the OG Les Mills gyms, I'm sure you have great instructors over there - they set the bar high and it's quite competitive to even get a spot teaching as I understand it.

Happleandhorange · 10/09/2025 10:31

Great advice, @BezMills - it's definitely an irreplaceable experience in person. It will be even better when I can bounce my feet around.

Yes instructors seem consistently really good (well, really fit and energetic, anyway). I am going to treat myself to two personal training sessions when I am out of physio.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 10/09/2025 12:10

I am still around but have stopped counting - I have consistently done 10-15 minutes of yoga every morning and evening over the summer, and this week I've been walking 5-6 miles a day thanks to the Tube strike, but I really can't face doing more even though I know I should. Glad to see other people have better willpower than I do!

Alittlefrustrated · 10/09/2025 20:28

I admire your commitment to daily yoga practice ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson
1 hour pilates class tonight - she wrung us out like wet dishcloths - I absolutely love that feeling!

Happleandhorange · 11/09/2025 08:31

Yes, yoga twice a day is amazing.

I had good news today. I went to the Pilates class that I tried a month ago, and that nearly killed me. I could cope fine - I didn't finish every exercise rep and used lots of modifications, but I wasn't flopping around on the floor like a dead fish losing the will to live. I think the strength and conditioning I've been doing on the gym floor must have made a difference. Yay.
