Cardio kick boxing this morning which was fun. I hope to do something tomorrow but I'm not entirely sure when or what as I have a lot of running around to do...

Cardio kickboxing sounds fun! Did yous have gloves n pads, or striking air?

I binned the 10k off, had a rotten night's sleep so just took the rest day. I've been down for a dip which totes counts, right?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/12/2023 19:01

Punch bags and then partner work with pads, Bez. Dip definitely counts. I was really hoping to get in the sea some day this week but the weather has been too awful or dangerous with the wind and the risk oof running off has me too wary in the few hours of relative calm. Fingers crossed for the new year.

That sounds mint @MotherForkinShirtBalls

I have a plan to start a boxercise class up in January, just pads and gloves plus some banging tunes. It is a bit scary but the best thing about going it alone is I can only be sacked by me.

christmaspawpaws · 31/12/2023 14:55

Aldi bargain, cast iron too

They look good, Paws, although after a long time of sitting in the corner of the sitting room, I gave mine to my nephew for his home gym over the summer. Blush

I got a short swim today to round out the year. Not quite the 250 I'd hoped for but a creditable result I think. Thanks for all the encouragement over the year, Athoners, looking forward to starting again. (Although we have our final festive family day tomorrow, so Tuesday is likely to be my first exercise day of the year.)

Happy new year all 🍾

Happy new year one and all!

Looking back with hindsight, this year has had a pleasing symmetry that wasn't apparent as I went through the ups and downs.

January : training with lovely Hannah (Barre) and James (Core).
Feb + March : thrown into chaos by the gym closing. Qualified in BodyCombat and Boxercise
April to September : teaching BodyCombat (best thing ever), swam a lot, swam the Solent(!)
October + November : sacked by the gym (boo), felt sorry for myself for a bit, got over it.
December : training with Anna Sensei back as a participant.

Plan for 2024

Tom Morrison's Simplistic Mobility Method
Weights ( Stronglifts 5*5 program)
BodyCombat
Start teaching Boxercise in my community
Get my Kick Boxercise ticket, which gets me the Advanced Trainer Badge
Swim (dip through winter, swim for realsies from mid April)
Be safety Kayaker for the Solent swims

I expect that lot will see me hitting 200-250

TLDR Topp Goals
train every week
end up fitter
give something back
don't get injured

I wish you all the very best in setting and smashing your own goals for the year ahead!
🎯🏅

christmaspawpaws · 01/01/2024 09:56

My goals are trying to be realistic with chronic conditions Grin
3 x a week or 150 mins exercise
Swimming again when the weather warms up
Continue with strength training and spin

BezMills · 01/01/2024 09:59

Fine goals! Here's to swimming in warmer times

I'm going down for a nippy dip at 10.30 brrr

roonetta · 01/01/2024 14:49

Happy new year everyone!

234 is nothing to be sniffed at Motherforkin. You have been amazing this year, as have you all. You really are my own personal motivators Grin

Those are some great goals Bez and pawpaws. I've no doubt you will smash them.

As for me, I am not setting any goals as such this year; I'm really not sure what the year is going to bring. I will still count my exercise days but won't set a target. I'm hopeful I will have enough motivation to move my ass!

Tomorrow will be my first exercise day of 2024. Good luck to you all with your goals and I hope you all have a happy and healthy 2024 💪🏻🙌❤️

Alohapotato · 01/01/2024 15:04

Hello, can I join please? Thank you very much.

roonetta · 02/01/2024 08:56

Hi @Alohapotato - it would be lovely to have you join us. This is a fairly relaxed exercise thread where we all do our own thing at our own pace, with lots of motivation along the way.

Kids are not back at school/college until tomorrow so I used the extra time this morning to get my first Nat Hayward Pilates workout of 2024 in.

Welcome @Alohapotato !

Dipped yesterday, weights today. I'm on a progressive program, weights go up every session - starting to really feel it.

purplesparklydinosaur · 02/01/2024 15:50

Hello! May I join in too?

I’m getting back to exercise this year after being hit by a van last year!

Today was a HIIT class at the gym and leg day.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 02/01/2024 15:59

Hello Aloha and purple 🖐

I don't think I'm going to set a target this year either, Roonetta, it's oddly self defeating for me. Last day of my holidays so instead of sitting and eating bonbons, I've cleaned the house and am heading to the gym shortly.

Hello, I did two videos of legs exercises from youtube. Can I have Hiit recommendations and pilates from youtube please? Thank you.

SophieLion · 03/01/2024 07:30

Hello and happy New Year to you all!!! 🌟

I'm really going to make an effort to start posting here again as you're all so motivating. Dog has taken up a ridiculous amount of my time (walking, training and everything else....) but have managed to keep up exercise. Just finished Girvan's Epic Heat and contemplating doing Iron (again....)

Or.... trying heather Robertson. Have any of you done any of her workouts?

SophieLion · 03/01/2024 07:32

Days exercised: 2 (5km run two days ago and EMOM HIIT yesterday - my legs are sore today even though I did a 20 min stretch...)

Hi Sophie! Nice to see you back.

Aloha, I'm afraid I don't have the discipline for home work outs any more, but way back when I did 30 day shred and found it good. It's on YouTube as far as I know.

Swim today. The pool was full of new years resolutions so a bit manic.

Yay welcome back Sophie! Lovely to hear from you 😊. I'm super impressed you are keeping up with Girvan workouts. Did you invest in the App?

@Alohapotato I currently do Pilates/Strength workouts of Nathalie Hayward who is on Instagram. They aren't too difficult and are easy for me to fit into my day. As for HIIT, I second what Motherforkin says about Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. This is hands down the best programme for dropping a few pounds and increasing your fitness. If it's not on YouTube you can find it on Bilibili.com. The text is in Chinese, but if you type 'Jillian Michaels' into the search bar, all her programmes will come up. I definitely recommend any of her workouts. If you want something hard core, try some of Caroline Girvan's HIIT workouts which are on YouTube, but they are brutal!

florenceandthemac · 04/01/2024 10:18

Hi all, could I join please? I don't lack motivation but I love talking about exercise but nobody really shares my passion in real life 😑
Although I didn't do as much as usual over Christmas and New Year, I did do a couple of workouts/runs so it wasn't a complete shock to the body in the new year!

So far this week, I've done:
A 7k run with the local running group on New Year's Day
Caroline Girvan's Iron Series Day 2 (shoulders, back & chest) on Tuesday
Strength circuit class at my gym yesterday, plus half hour walk & run on the treadmill (I'd gone to do pilates but the class wasn't on... 🙄)

Today I'm doing CG Iron Series Day 5 (arms & abs).
I'm mainly just doing her upper body workouts as I'm working my legs via other means.

Also, I've fell out of love with running in the last year or so, but I have a 10k race in March so my plan now is to up the mileage and get a least three varied runs in each week.
What's everybody else up to today?

BezMills · 04/01/2024 11:52

Welcome @florenceandthemac !

Weights now, mobility and BodyCombat later.

Hello Florence 👋

I was too tired to get up early and go to my gym class so instead i had a run today. Wasn't as bad as I feared!

Thanks for the welcome!

Managed my Caroline Girvan arms & abs workout yesterday, plus a fast 5k walk last night (I didn't have it in me to run).
I went to my strength class this morning, but I can't move my legs after my Wednesday class, so we had to tailor it to all upper body. I then did 15 mins on the rower afterwards.

I've recently been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, and have noticed lately (although it's probably not related) that when I got DOMS in my quads, they last for 4-5 days now, rather than the 2 days it used to take. Only seems to be my quads though. Even just walking at the minute is awkward, I'm hoping they are back to normal for my planned long run on Sunday.

Regarding a goal, I'd like to maintain exercising at least 5 days a week, so if I say 48 weeks (to account for the three weeks holidays I have planned plus a week's buffer), my goal is 240 days this year.
As I mentioned, my recent diagnosis might scupper this, but I can only try...

Well done on your run @MotherForkinShirtBalls
