London Marathon 2024 Ballot Results

Entered the ballot for the 9th year in a row and fully expecting to be unsuccessful, but still excited to hopefully find out the results in the next week or so! It seems to be dragging, although I remember when you had to wait for the result by post in October! Anybody else excitedly/anxiously awaiting an email?

Pah! Not successful. Nearly two months to wait for GFA entry and however long it takes for those results to come out.

Good for age last time was about 3 weeks after the window closed. It’s a slightly more complicated process as they do have to verify it’s you.

I really need to get my arse in gear and just run a decent half so I can just get a guaranteed championship spot. I was about 70 seconds off it on my January half. Arg

It took me 19 years of rejection before I finally got a place in this years. Then I had my son so had to defer to 2025. This year is the first year in 2 decades I haven't waited for a letter/email. I'm strangely missing it.

Is it your first marathon or just first London Marathon@tinydancer88 ?

Oh that's very exciting indeed!

Do not underestimate the intensity of the training leading up to it. Make sure you get 5 good 20 mile runs during the training, trust the taper and on the day you will fly.

Can anyone recommend a nice flat marathon course in the South? I did the Southampton half a couple of years ago and crossing the bridges so early on was not nice!

I can’t think of many hugely flat ones in the south… Boston U.K. is insanely flat. To the extent I actually found it quite disorienting when I did it

Flat marathons?

Can you cope with laps? If so then Battersea Park (annual, October).

Laps, but fewer of them and not quite as flat, Goodwood or Bedford Autodrome

Also Dorney Lake, pretty damned flat, not as many laps as Battersea

Can't believe it .... got a ballot place after 5 years of trying....slightly scared now and starting to doubt I can do it already...

Is there an easy way to find which marathons count towards a GFA entry? I've not done a marathon yet but my half times consistently put me in the right ballpark and I'd like to work towards qualifying for 2025. I'm in the south so considering Brighton, Portsmouth or Southampton, but I can't work out which if any of them meet the appropriate standard.

In case you hadn't guessed, it was a no for me for 2024....
