London Marathon 2024 Ballot Results

Entered the ballot for the 9th year in a row and fully expecting to be unsuccessful, but still excited to hopefully find out the results in the next week or so! It seems to be dragging, although I remember when you had to wait for the result by post in October! Anybody else excitedly/anxiously awaiting an email?

I'd forgotten that I'd entered! Thank you for the reminder.
I kind do and don't want to get in. There will be more relief than disappointment if I don't!

tinydancer88 · 20/06/2023 20:23

Haha I know exactly what you mean - this time round, because I’m feeling actually quite fit and injury free I feel it’s a dead cert I won’t get in!

Desperately hoping against hope here 🤞🤞🤞

gavinc0328 · 20/06/2023 20:35

I nearly forgot about the ballot. My first time into London Marathon ballot and hope that I will get into it. Otherwise I need to sort out other options in 2024. Paris may be a fun one but the accommodation may also be costly due to Olympics. Any other suggestions?

tinydancer88 · 20/06/2023 21:05

Hopefully we’ll all be miraculously lucky (or let off this year if that’s our secret wish).

I’m thinking I’d like to do Manchester if the 9th time isn’t the charm.

I'm in for the 6th time. Edinburgh is my second choice.

The first couple of years I was a bit disappointed not to get in even though I knew it would be VERY unlikely. Then I started planning alternatives instead so I could still get excited on results day. This year I did Leeds, but it was very hilly. I've also done York a couple of times.

I was supposed to be doing Liverpool Rock and Roll, but after a couple of years delay due to Covid they then cancelled the event altogether.

Other marathons on my todo list are:
Manchester
Brighton
Chester
Loch Ness

Up for rejection again this year.

It's like seeing the parole officers in the Shawshank Redemption.

Onewildandpreciouslife · 20/06/2023 22:31

My first year in the ballot, and have also applied for a charity place. I’m thinking Manchester if I don’t get in

gavinc0328 · 21/06/2023 07:33

I was in Manchester this year and really love the vibe. Definitely recommend to anyone failed to get into London. I may do Brighton one as an alternative option too.

tinydancer88 · 21/06/2023 07:35

😂

I quite like the idea of Loch Ness at some point, but maybe not my first marathon as I imagine it’s quite hilly!

Manchester is great if you want a UK city marathon. I really enjoyed it, it was varied, mostly flat and a great community atmosphere.

Loads and loads of portaloos too 😎😂

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 21/06/2023 10:44

Impatiently waiting for the Good for age applications to open… then you don’t hear till October! Arg.

I hate Manchester (although spent most of my twenties living there so the three times I did it just sodding off and going home was tempting).
Loch ness isn’t actually too bad hill-wise it’s net downhill and apart from a bit of a bastard of a hill at about 18 it’s not bad. It is however very quiet support wise.

xsquared · 21/06/2023 11:12

Didn't realise about GFA entry until after I'd ran Manchester this year. I'll enter through GFA, but still don't fancy my chances.

ValBiro · 21/06/2023 11:15

I've been refreshing my emails quite a lot! Thanks for starting this thread as I was wondering if anyone else had heard anything yet. Apparently not. Good luck everyone!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 21/06/2023 12:40

@xsquared how much under the cut off are you? There was one or two odd years where you needed to be 5 minutes under but usually 2/3 minutes is pretty comfy!
With the championship start eating up a lot of really speedy people it’s only really a half hour window that’s eligible so your chances are better than you might think

Same - I'm convinced either everybody else will hear before me or the email will end up lurking in my junk folder and I'll have missed it!

Ooh is it today?
8th time I’ve entered the ballot and probably 8th time I’ll be rejected!
I have done it once by winning the place that my running club was allocated and it was amazing.
I’ve only ever done trail marathons otherwise and don’t really have any desire to do any other road ones apart from London.

AHugeTinyMistake · 21/06/2023 12:54

Hi everyone. Joining the queue for the inevitable rejection as well. Resigned to it now, it's like a yearly ritual 😅

If I don't get in I think I'll sign up for a trail event instead.

The info on the website is still just saying "by the end of June", I was just wondering if anyone else was as impatient as I am to find out! 😁

Update on insta says email on 6th July 🙄

tinydancer88 · 21/06/2023 14:10

Well that's not the end of June is it!

Thanks, I can let my nervousness simmer down for a bit while longer.

OP posts:
OrangeBananaFish · 21/06/2023 21:10

I was put off by Lochness once too until I did Leeds this year. 2 separate people said that it was worse than Lochness so I think I'll be OK with it now.

Just been having a look at hotels in Edinburgh for their running weekend. I knew it was going to be expensive, but surprised that I can find more places in London on the marathon weekend for cheaper. Only looked at booking.com though.

Just to get an idea on prices before I book one in a couple of weeks

AHugeTinyMistake · 21/06/2023 22:53

I really liked Loch Ness. It's very different to a big city marathon. I had a rubbish race but it wasn't anything to do with the race itself. I'd like to go back and have another try at some point.

PatchworkElmer · 22/06/2023 06:00

I’ve been offered a charity place but have to accept it by the 29th of June. They’ll refund my registration fee if I get in through the ballot.

HOWEVER my running club also ballot a place and I’d have better odds of getting that one- under 30 people applied for it last year.

Or do I just bin the whole thing off and go for Manchester. Not sure what to do!!

Onewildandpreciouslife · 22/06/2023 07:06

That’s going to be a tense week- the Taylor Swift ticket emails (for my DD) come out on 5 July!
