Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

PB for me this morning, both for a parkrun and 5k so I'm buzzed! And the sun was at last shining, which when you're on a coastal course like ours is absolutely glorious! Hope everyone had a good run!

Lovely morning for my RD stint today. I realised I won’t be running a parkrun for ages as I volunteered the last two weeks and am busy the next two. Having a bit of a lull in my midweek running too. Need to get back on it before I lose all my fitness.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2024 14:52

I haven't posted for a few weeks - hello everyone. I visited a new (to me) parkrun last week, and volunteered at my home parkrun this morning as it was a milestone run for the event. Lots of happy runners in the sunshine - lovely!

MirandaWest · 22/06/2024 16:51

I’m continuing to tourist around Yorkshire - am up to 44 events in total with the majority being Yorkshire and the Humber ones. Got a new letter today and a position bingo number as well as having to go up a hill 4 times 😆

SouthCountryGirl · 22/06/2024 19:09

I got a seasons best, date bingo and a new venue today

xsquared · 22/06/2024 21:04

I volunteered for scanning after running today.

As I knew I needed to be quick, I started closer to the starting line. Got a course PB and 1st in my age category.

This was my last parkrun in my current age category.

Back running today after a few weeks off through other commitments. We're just past the shortest day in Oz and we had a beautiful sunrise heading to Curl Curl.
It was a pacer week so I tried staying with one of them but dropped away in the second half. Just got date bingo, but happy to be back

Really slow one today in the rain. Just wasn’t feeling it. I was 5 minutes faster last week in the hot weather on holiday. Both flat and fast courses.

AuntieStella · 21/07/2024 21:54

I was a tourist yesterday to a nice, hilly, trail parkrun, which made a nice change from the usual. Shocker of a bad time though!

Got another one on stopwatch bingo

Mysterian · 16/08/2024 20:53

Just joined. My first Parkrun is tomorrow. So...

Park nearby early to guarantee a spot.
Get to the start 15 minutes early.
Find a person with a blue bib.
Make sure I forget my barcode.

Anything else?

AuntieStella · 16/08/2024 21:10

I think you might have got that last item a little wrong.....

Main thing is to have fun!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/08/2024 21:10

@Mysterian - enjoy your first parkrun. Don't forget your barcode, and download the 5K app (others are also available) so you can start doing the various challenges 😀

I'm tail walking at home tomorrow after a few weeks of touring/holidays/other things on Saturday mornings. Looking forward to seeing my pals.

Mysterian · 16/08/2024 22:14

Got one more week of the Couch to 5k. Thought I would finish that before I get any other apps. Do I really need the 5k app?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/08/2024 22:24

It’s not essential @Mysterian. I like it as it stores my barcode as a back up if I forget my wristband (which reminds me, where is my wristband?)

xsquared · 17/08/2024 00:05

Doing a tourist one tomorrow in Delamere.

Anyone been before?

I'm wondering whether to wear trail or road shoes.

Have a good one everyone.

Mysterian · 17/08/2024 12:43

I did it!

Got there early. Way too early. Can't believe how late some people left it. All the reading of "my first parkrun" guides helped a lot.
I started at the back doing the C25K 5 minutes walking. I began running and went too quick but I checked my watch and slowed down to my normal pace. I spent the first third just behind one person going the same speed. He slowed down leading to me slowing down too. I picked up the pace to faster than normal and passed him, but I felt so good I carried on at that speed.
After 4k I finished my C25K running so went back to walking, but just had to run in the last few hundred metres to the finish.
I finished 460 out of 500ish, at around 41 and a half minutes. I was quick for me and still felt fairly fresh.

Looking forwards to next week!

Brilliant! Well done 😊 I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your first parkrun, be warned though, it can definitely itely get a bit addictive! 😆

My son and I went to Graves parkrun this morning, it's been the closest one to us that we haven't done for a while but we have been putting it off in favour of less hilly courses, so it was time! It was tough, we were nearly 3mins slower than our recent usual times with all those hills but it was a good course, challenging but we enjoyed it and will go back 😊 Junior parkrun for the kids and volunteering for me tomorrow at our local one.

Cornishmumofone · 17/08/2024 14:15

Lovely run at Uppsala parkrun this morning with my 7 year old... she had a few brief walking breaks and enjoyed talking to an Aussie tourist, so it was a surprise that she ran her fastest ever parkrun!

miked99 · 24/08/2024 12:51

Went to the newest Parkrun in Sydney this morning. Pirrama Parkrun is very near to the city centre and follows the waterfront so will be the best option for a lot of visitors to Sydney.
It was event 5 so I got a Prime and a Fibonacci as well as Cowell and Date Bingo but had an otherwise bang on average run. Nice scenery though

Hope you all have a good run or volunteer

Curly wurly for us today - very wet but still good - saving the curly surly I was given by a fellow tourist till later. Smile

Snowpaw · 24/08/2024 13:02

Tough one this morning - due to a tree down on the usual course they did the "B" route which was basically down hill all the way to the mid point, then back up the same hill all the way to the end. Real mental challenge as well as physical!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 24/08/2024 13:55

Very wet parkrun this morning but meant attendance was nearly half the numbers last week so finished 3rd lady.

I know you're not "allowed" to be competitive at parkrun, but a "podium" finish is quite nice. I'll never be Keely Hodgkinson so I'll take the wins where I can :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/08/2024 14:27

Super morning with some random tourism. I hadn't planned to go where I ended up, but was very glad I did because I unexpectedly bumped into @Standingonlego after a very long time 😀

MirandaWest · 24/08/2024 15:46

I went off to the coast today to do another of the Yorkshire and the Humber parkruns - now up to 42 out of 65 😃

first parkrun in ages where I’ve run the whole thing and unsurprisingly my fastest in a couple of months too

AuntieStella · 24/08/2024 16:29

I did my NENDY, which I've been meaning to get round to for a long time. Distinctly soggy!
