Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

I thought I had posted, but maybe I just wrote a message but didn't press post...

@Anawi that sounds fab - hope you manage to do it.

@miked99 enjoy your long weekend!

@TeresaCrowd - beware, parkrun is addictive...

I woke up a bit late but made it to my local parkrun just in time for the start. Beat last week's time by a while second - go me - so am still on my fastest time of the year. No other achievements today, except another run towards my double ton at home - I thought I had achieved it last year, but that included volunteering so I reset the app to only count runs.

RunningAndSinging · 27/01/2024 12:46

A lovely trip to my Nendy today. Perfect weather and good company. I got 3 seconds for the 3rd time for stopwatch bingo - still waiting for 1,2 and 4 as three of my final 6 - was all excited as I knew it was mainly low numbers 🤨

miked99 · 03/02/2024 00:20

A big annual 10K fun run goes through my home course, so today I went to another local Parkrun at Mosman. I and other visitors boosted the numbers to around 150 and I was pleased to do my best time in a year or so at Mosman and finished in the middle of the pack.

Meanwhile the winner of the fun run had finished in under 30mins which was less than my 5K time!

Good luck to everyone today

Went to our local parkrun with my son again today. I can only go fortnightly as take turns with my husband. It was my son's second time and he was thrilled he ran nearly three minutes faster 🙂 its amazing what finally realising someone has asthma and medicating the poor child can do! 🙈

Well done 🙂 sounds a good sized group of runners. Some of the courses seem to attract huge numbers, I'm not sure I'd enjoy a really biay parkrun.

It is insane just how fast some people can run isn't it 😳 my legs and lungs hurt just imagining being able to run 10k that quickly.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/02/2024 10:21

Well done to mini-Anawi!

No parkrun for me thus week, and I am volunteering next week.

@miked99's story reminded me of a time when I did a HM with a massive field of participants. The course was a 10k loop of a park and then left the park and went through. the city. The back pens (ie me and other slower runners) were still waiting to set off when the front runners flew past, having already done half of their run.

Hey everyone, I didn't even know this thread was here and it popped up coincidentally as I just got home from doing mine.

I am very new to it. I did my 3rd one today, but I am not a runner, so my friend and I walk. We plan to try to run a bit as we get a little bit fitter, so we are a work in progress. We added in breakfast afterwards today 😃

They made an announcement last week that the week before (our first one), we were the largest turnout in our country, and 3rd in the world. 👀. Also had 190 first timers iirc. Does anyone know where I can find this information as now I'm keen to find out where the top two were.

My stats just came though, we were 1130 finishers today. It's making me really puppy broody though. We don't have that many babies in prams but we have lots of dogs, and so many puppies. I'm sure my timing would be better if I didn't stop to say hello to most of them having their water break.😂 Which in itself is lovely, it's very hot at the moment and they do take keeping the pups hydrated quite seriously.

I tried to skim though previous posts, as I can't work out what the Bingo is that many of you refer to. If there is a post explaining it, would someone mind quoting it for me.

isthismylifenow · 03/02/2024 11:11

Oh I found the bingo on the 5k app.

Not sure i understand it though as it seems to be a new thing for me. I don't recall seeing it last week. I'm thinking maybe it's because it's a new month ?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/02/2024 11:22

Hello @isthismylifenow - I was about to recommend the 5K app, and/or the running achievements one - they both have lists of the various challenges people have put together over time. There's also loads of stats on the parkrun website itself like attendance records, week by week results etc.

Welcome to the thread!

RunningAndSinging · 03/02/2024 12:10

Welcome isthismylifenow good username for a new parkrunner!

You can find event turnouts under results on your country’s website and look at the previous weeks numbers and records eg uk is Here. The columns can each be ordered. Lots of charts and list available there. Also Elliot Line’s stats page .

Stop watch bingo is ongoing and it is trying to get all the possible seconds in the clock for your finish time. So for example 30 min 1 second and 36 min 2 seconds each give you a different one of the possible 60. So at the moment you will get one most weeks but it takes an average of over 200 parkruns to get them all.

A pretty run this morning for me, somewhere different from my usual but not new to me. All good.

Thank you @OhOneOhTwoOhThree and @RunningAndSinging .

These links are so useful, especially the Elliot Line page. I also now have seen the huge amount of parkruns you have in the UK, but I guess you are the inventors of it too 😃

I said to my friend this morning that I don't think I have said Good Morning to and been said it to back by so many people in such a short time, as I have in these three weeks.

It's something I have been meaning to start for a while now, and just so pleased that I have now. Not just for health reasons, but also just getting out there, being around other people and starting the day off well.

I think I have the gist of the bingo now, that had me a bit befuddled at first 😃

MirandaWest · 03/02/2024 14:23

Went to another new parkrun for me - had a really good run. Got quicker as the run went by and just managed a sub 30 min time which was my fastest this year. The course had some slight hills and about half of it was on grass so was especially pleased 😊

MirandaWest · 03/02/2024 15:18

AIso managed to get a position bingo number - only need another 31 more!

SouthCountryGirl · 03/02/2024 18:26

Far too tired this morning so a lie in instead

TeresaCrowd · 03/02/2024 20:27

Revisited one of the two runs I’d done locally for my 3rd parkrun. Allowed me to get a PB. Didn’t wear nearly so many clothes so didn’t have to walk whilst de-robing like last time. Slowly learning over time what I need to wear for running as it’s much less than for cycling, but I like to cycle to and from the start. Got my 5k down since November from 36:15 to 33:24. I’d like to get to sub-30 by the end of the year and happy to play the long game. Any advice for picking up the pace? (Gradually).

Find a parkrun with pacers

Interval training and running further on other days of the week. My biggest improvements were when I was tracing for a 10K and when I started going to track sessions at the running club.

miked99 · 10/02/2024 02:07

After a couple of weeks as a tourist at smaller events, it was back to Curl Curl today with 500 other people including a few from the UK and a rugby club starting their pre-season training.
It was cloudy and cool so good running conditions and I was happy with my time and position, I finished ahead of some of the stockier built rugby players, but only ended up with date bingo.

Good luck everyone running today

My 50th volunteer milestone today. Timekeeping at my home events - lovely shout outs, good event. Happy days 🙂

isthismylifenow · 10/02/2024 11:45

Congratulations on your 50th today @RunningAndSinging

We dressed up today for the Valentines theme, I am always game for a daft dress up so went with it. Managed to knock 2 minutes on with with the added ensemble, so that wasn't bad. And there was a big market on after so was a good morning out.

It is so very hot though, having a heatwave at the moment so only 960 where normally 1200 odd participants turned up today.

I am not even ashamed to admit that I supported some stalls and had a slushy cocktail before the first plane had come over 😃.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/02/2024 12:04

Volunteer tourism today... tailwalking my 22 different volunteering location...

Congrats @RunningAndSinging - well done! Still got away to go to get to 50 volunteers - currently on 35 volunteer events.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/02/2024 14:12

Congratulations @RunningAndSinging and @putthehamsterbackinitscage on your volunteering and @isthismylifenow on your fancy dress and great time!

I was timekeeping today - 454 runners, joggers and walkers, as two of our nearby parkruns were cancelled due to flooding.

RunningAndSinging · 17/02/2024 11:30

Running and event set up today. A good turnout on a misty day with lots of tourists visiting.

parkrunner1977 · 17/02/2024 12:40

We stayed at our home event today to volunteer as car park marshals and celebrate my 250th run😊

MirandaWest · 17/02/2024 12:51

@parkrunner1977 well done 😃

I stayed local today as that park run is flat and I’m doing a 10 mile race tomorrow. I felt I could have given more so was pleasantly surprised to get a new parkrun PB 😃 a few seconds quicker than my previous one in October, but less effort and heart rate was lower too 😊
