Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree Quakers Walk in Devizes is a fairly new one and gets lots of tourists after their Q!

SequinBear · 02/01/2024 08:34

Thank you for the info about headphones @SouthCountryGirl, @AuntieStella and @RunningAndSinging! I'm going to try and attend my first parkrun in the next few weeks.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/01/2024 11:56

Thank you for the tourism tips!

Valentines is my closest V according to the 5K app. The alternative is Victoria Dock, which I was planning on combining with a swim at some point. I've been to Milton Country Park a couple of times as their swim lake opens from 10-11 on Saturdays, so perfect timing for a post-park run dip (and the cafe there is great too).

Sadly both Q's are over 2 hours from me in the wrong direction. I might have to plan a visit to my cousin in Glasgow or my friend in Belfast :-)

AuntieStella · 03/01/2024 11:45

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree

Tooting Common and Brockwell Park each have both lidos and parkruns, if you want to try a slightly different aquathlon Saturday.

Cycle there for triathlon!

miked99 · 06/01/2024 02:34

Morning all,
there were 592 finishers at Curl Curl today on a beautiful sunny morning , that's the second most ever, with 98 first timers amongst them. So I hope they all enjoyed it and keep coming back.

The normal start is on a fairly narrow path, so the organisers even had to move the start onto the sports pitches next to the path instead so there was a lot less crowding than usual.

I ran a pretty good time for me, my best for almost a year but only got Date Bingo and one closer to by Double Century

Hope everyone who gets out has a good run or volunteer today

I did some more local tourism today, to one I'd not done before, so added one to Cowell/Freyne Club challenge and got date bingo

Have just hear that my home event had a massive turnout - possibly its biggest ever! I know there's a NY peak, but this was twice typical!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/01/2024 11:48

Hello parkrunners! We had a big turnout today thanks to the two nearest parkruns both being cancelled. We had lots of deep puddles but it was a lot of fun. My shoes are now the cleanest they have been for weeks.

RunningAndSinging · 06/01/2024 13:15

Timekeeping this morning for me. We had a big turnout for us but less than over Christmas.

The one I attended today had a bigger than normal turnout because the 2 local ones were flooded.

NatMoz · 06/01/2024 15:08

Wasn't sure if my local was going ahead, 2 other local ones had cancelled due to flooding. The go ahead went on fb at 8am so out of bed i went🤣

miked99 · 13/01/2024 00:33

It's very humid in Sydney at the moment, so a bit uncomfortable for a run but we had another huge turnout at Curl Curl with over 580 finishers and probably 600 if the dogs and babies being pushed round were added.

I had my best time in almost a year so am delighted but nothing on the 5K app challenges. I'm trying to think of a way they can add one where you get credit for beating all the strollers as there's one that normally just beats me , but I caught them near the finish today. I have to take my victories where I can

Good luck to everyone today, hope the weather doesn't cause any cancellations

It was cold this morning. Volunteering again. Back to running next week.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 13/01/2024 17:32

Mine was busy again today, 195 finishers against the average of 123. We did a parkrun sandwich run of 10 miles in total so I didn't realise that I was only 3 seconds off my course pb! Lovely running weather, cold but dry

beguilingeyes · 13/01/2024 20:44

We're going to Bury next weekend and they have a new Parkrun (Clarence) that only started in September last year. Got to be done really. My 96th.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/01/2024 12:37

Hope you enjoyed Clarence @beguilingeyes

I had three in mind for this morning as I was heading up the M1 to visit my parents. Managed to get to the furthest away of the three, which made the post-parkrun drive shorter, and finally completed my stopwatch bingo after months of waiting for the last one. A nice reward for a cold and windy parkrun. Also my fastest of the year so far (which isn’t saying much).

beguilingeyes · 20/01/2024 12:47

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree Clarence was cancelled because of ice, and we didn't find out early enough to get to Heaton Park. Still on 95 then.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 20/01/2024 12:52

Tourist volunteering again- chiro advised not to run so grabbed a spot on the roster.

Glasgow this time - that's Q for the alphabet challenge... lovely core team and a great start to the day.

AuntieStella · 20/01/2024 12:57

Just a regular at my home parkrun for me today - nothing to add to either stopwatch or position bingo, and even calendar is now tracking the same as 2018 (will that change after leap day?)

RunningAndSinging · 20/01/2024 13:13

Cold this morning, no ice though at my home parkrun. First run for me since New Years Day. Great to be out there again.

MirandaWest · 20/01/2024 14:29

Went to Middleton Woods near Leeds this morning - continuing on my quest to complete all the Yorkshire and Humberside ones (hopefully at some point next year). Have done my 30th different venue now and 26th Yorkshire and Humberside one. Was a good mixture of tarmac and trail and was pleased with how it felt. And I got another position bingo place - 32 to go!

Anawi · 21/01/2024 16:10

I went to our local parkrun again yesterday, got a new pb by about 5mins 😆 which is much less impressive than it sounds as it was the first time I've been alone and not run with one of my children at their pace but it still felt satisfying 😆

We have a big trip coming up in a couple of month, we will travel through Singapore and to New Zealand. I'm wondering if I'm commited enough to try to convince the family to try to do parkruns in both places 🙈 Singapore would be tough, I think they so it at 7am there to combat the worst of the heat. More of a parkcrawl maybe 🤔

RunningAndSinging · 21/01/2024 17:32

Do it, Anawi - it would be amazing. Great way to meet the locals and be part of something .

Well definitely go in New Zealand, we are there 3wks and have family who we might be able to coax along. Not sure we'll make the Singapore we're only there for a two day stopover on the way back, will keep it in mind though 🙂

TeresaCrowd · 21/01/2024 20:20

Did my second ever parkrun this weekend, after my first one on NYD. Both my local courses (did one on NYD and the other this week) have good numbers of joggers around my time around 35 mins, so you are always running with a few people for pacing and motivation. It’s so much more motivating to me than just going for a run which I probably wouldn’t do! I normally do my long bike ride on a Saturday so I’m going to try and do 1 parkrun a month, but wonder if I’ll lose all running resilience in between.

miked99 · 27/01/2024 03:40

It's a 3 day weekend here in Oz so we were tourists at the Southern Highlands Botanical Gardens Parkrun.
It's a very undulating course with some hills near the end, so I was surprised I was able to get a sprint finish to catch two people right on the line.
Got a "South" for Compass so just need a West to complete the set.

Hope the weather is improving in the UK and you all get a run in
