Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

Morning all,
we were back at Curl Curl today on a beautiful summers morning with 500 others for the last run of 2023 where my son was a pacer , so got a volunteer and got to run.
My friend had completed the alphabet challenge over Christmas by heading up to Queensland to get a V, so I was very envious as I have a few still to go.
Prompted by @SouthCountryGirl's question I had a look to see who was wearing earbuds and there were a lot more than I would have guessed given we have a pretty crowded start, so I don't think anyone is bothered when people wear them.
I only got Date Bingo which I was surprised by as we are pretty regular Christmas holiday Parkrunners but I guess its about a 7 year cycle so if you miss one year its a long time until it comes round again.

Have a great run or volunteer everyone

Hi everyone and happy last parkrun of the year day!

I volunteered this morning at my local.

According to the app I've done 34 parkruns and volunteered 13 times this year (some were as parkwalker/tail walker so double credits). I've also managed 12 different locations this year.

Planning to run on NYD. Next year I'd like to tick off a few of my nearby parkruns, and keep up the volunteering to at least once a month.

SouthCountryGirl · 30/12/2023 12:57

Just a date bingo for me. But I did get a pb

MirandaWest · 30/12/2023 13:39

Did my 40th parkrun of the year this morning. And it was relatively fast for me at just over 29 minutes 😊

Did 16 new venues this year taking my total to 27 and wondering if I can make it to 50 different venues in total next year. And 41 parkruns next year.

MirandaWest · 30/12/2023 13:40

Had a position bingo today as well.

NatMoz · 30/12/2023 13:46

I have done 34 parkruns this year and 5 volunteer credits. N Y resolution is to volunteer more in 2024.

Maybe attempt 40 parkruns for 2024👀

Starting 2024 with a brutal local parkrun at a NT property

SouthCountryGirl · 30/12/2023 14:38

43 parkruns and 9 volunteer credits for me this year

Iamanunsafebuilding · 30/12/2023 19:32

I've done 20 parkruns this year, I'm not sure how many volunteer credits but I have 23 in total! I'm not setting any targets for next year as I have an Ultra to train for 🫣 but I'll get there!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/12/2023 19:42

@Iamanunsafebuilding I used parkrun as part of my ultra training this year - my plan had me doing 3 miles on Saturdays and long runs on Sundays. When the training ramped up a bit I just did extra laps of the park after I'd been though the finish funnel. If I was volunteering I ran either before or afterwards.

Hope the training goes well, it's a massive commitment but very satisfying when it's over.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 30/12/2023 20:09

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree my plan has long runs on Saturday and shorter runs on Sunday but I could switch that up! I'm doing day 2 of Race to the Stones so need to do a lot of my training runs on the trails, luckily I'm local to the Ridgeway so will be heading up there...

AuntieStella · 30/12/2023 20:19

When I needed long runs, I would run there, do the parkrun, and then run back - depending on route I could make that anywhere between 9 and 16 miles, and it was nice to break up the rhythm of the run into those three segments (plus a pause whilst waiting for the start)

I always volunteer to be tailwalker the day before big Sunday races

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/12/2023 20:19

@Iamanunsafebuilding so did mine, but I just swapped them round. Apparently it's to get you used to running on tired legs, but a friend with lots of experience in these things said it wouldn't matter. Training on the trails is a really good idea, I did the Thames Path and managed to recce all of it (in chunks based on proximity to public transport) so when the day came I had a good mental map of the route.

Or you could just incorporate parkrun to your training - mine is a couple of miles from home so I can run or cycle there and back. Harder if it's further away though!

Iamanunsafebuilding · 30/12/2023 22:34

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree my parkrun is 2km from my house, so running there and back means we do 9km in total. It's easy to make it longer as well so parkun sandwich runs will definitely be part of my RTTS training!

RunningAndSinging · 30/12/2023 22:46

A really lovely parkrun morning at my home run today. I have done 34 runs and 18 volunteers this year.

I am off to one of the other local ones on New Years Day. I think I will do much more at my home run next year and keep up the volunteering. I am only two runs away from upping my P index to 6 but seem to be losing interest - it will probably happen naturally eventually.

LizziesTwin · 31/12/2023 07:13

42 runs & 36 volunteers for me. It would have been 43 but I had to look after a dog one day so could only volunteer.

Aiming to get my 100 & then do more towards my alphabet. I have 12 to go.

miked99 · 31/12/2023 21:14

Happy New Year everyone, hope it's a good one for all

I ran the New Years Day event at Curl Curl this morning which despite an impressive number of first timers was understandably down on attendees from Saturday's event. It's the first time I've managed both the Christmas Day and New Years Day Parkruns so that's the Festive Double ticked off for me

I had a late night seeing in the New Year and watching fireworks, so ran much slower than normal and still finished about 100 places higher than my usual - if only that could continue on normal weeks.

Anyway hope every has a great 2024 whether you start it with a parkrun or a hangover

Only 22 parkruns for me last year. Must do better in 2024.
Trying to drag myself out of bed for the New Year run this morning.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/01/2024 10:59

Happy new year all! Started the year with my local parkrun - cold but sunny here. Still waiting for that last stopwatch bingo - was 2 seconds too fast today!

Did you get up @beguilingeyes ?

I've just got the unusual letters left - Q, V and Z!

beguilingeyes · 01/01/2024 12:27

There's a Z in Holland now! Zuiderpark in The Hague.
I did get up. Number 93 for me. Back in bed now though.

beguilingeyes · 01/01/2024 12:28

Also. My Parkrun is Valentine's Park in East London. Come along! It's a lovely park and a nice 2 lap course.

MirandaWest · 01/01/2024 13:02

I did Fountains Abbey. Love it there. Got a position bingo number and a finish time that bore a slight resemblance to my actual time but not really concerned about that.

Would like to get to 50 different venues this year (currently on 27) and as many Yorkshire and the Humber ones (currently on 23 out of 65) so will be touristing mostly nearby ish for the foreseeable future 😃

I've been there as a tourist - agree it's a lovely one and really friendly!

I feel smug as I got myself out there today - local tourism as my friend's parkrun was running but mine wasn't. So v slow time as we chatted the whole way round!

LizziesTwin · 01/01/2024 13:46

I have Queen Elizabeth Country Park as my local Q - lots of tourists there for the Great South Run as it’s close to Portsmouth.

Ran today, not an overall PB but I’m happy with it, faster than Saturday & my 3rd day running in a row.

RunningAndSinging · 01/01/2024 15:07

A busy parkrun this morning - lovely weather and lots of friendly hellos as parkrunners in the area were concentrated into fewer events. I got my first Monday run towards the daily challenge. Just Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to go. Maybe I will finish that one in in 2030 if I keep up the UK special days
