Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

Yes it did thanks!!

I was well wrapped up against the rain, and it hammered it down, meaning a low-lying stretch of (tarmac) path that was clear when a fellow volunteer did the course check was completely covered by a huge and growing puddle by the last lap, much to the soggy-footed disgust of the runners!

RunningAndSinging · 09/12/2023 14:37

Home parkrun today and we had dry weather if a bit windy. A good gathering of family and friends - lovely morning.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 09/12/2023 14:58

Wet wet volunteer today.... but that's all Sheffield ones either run or volunteered now...

Fizbosshoes · 09/12/2023 16:39

I was volunteering today, it absolutely pelted it down and it was like a bad year at Glastonbury underfoot. The RD is very jovial and super enthusiastic and positive which definitely helped keep spirits up. Several people slipped over in the mud...and that was just by the bar code scanning, I'm not sure what the course was like. I had lots of layers on and was generally fine but my feet were pretty cold by 10am

LizziesTwin · 10/12/2023 16:08

Ours was cancelled and I didn’t go to another as I was racing last night - I had planned to Tail Walk with a friend & combine it with a dog walk. Will still be able to do 40 this year, which was my goal.

miked99 · 15/12/2023 23:33

Another warm morning in Sydney and we decided to go to Mosman, so that my son could run home the 8Km or so afterwards as he's building up his weekly distance over school holidays.
There were a fair few tourists, including two groups from the UK, but also some milestones , one woman was running her 400th event while another was on her 100th volunteer - so they had cake prepared at the end to celebrate.

Anyway, I ran pretty well for me, but only got Date Bingo and couldn't face the cake at the end, so my son had my slice as well as his. Then he remembered he was meant to be running home..... he came home in the car with me

Hope there aren't many cancellations and everyone has a good run or volunteer

I ran my local parkrun this morning for the first time ever 🙂 the sun was shining and it was a lovely way to start the weekend. I'll definitely do that again! I went with my daughter, I run more regularly than her but she has done parkrun before with her dad. We both enjoyed it and the hot chocolates on the way home 😆

RunningAndSinging · 16/12/2023 20:48

Fantastic Anawi - hope it is the first of many. I ran my local this morning - perfect weather for it and lots of chat. I am a bit injured at the moment and coming back from that so pleased to have done it faster than last week.

SouthCountryGirl · 17/12/2023 15:45

I walked mine yesterday. Now to clean my trail shoes!

miked99 · 23/12/2023 02:29

As we are doing Christmas day Parkrun at our home course, we decided to go to another event today, that we hadn't been to for a few years. North Sydney is a 3 lap undulating run with lots of twists and turns. There were loads of tourists from UK, Canada etc and a man from Italy who had 151 Parkruns and 150 Volunteers.
I went pretty well and got Position Bingo and Date Bingo and as a bonus don't have any aches or pains for Monday.

Hope everyone has a good run or volunteer

I've never heard of Parkrun before, and googled it. Wow, I didn't know such a thing existed. Sounds like fun. The nearest one to me is 1550 km away. Too bad! Maybe when I visit my daughter in Victoria BC.

RunningAndSinging · 23/12/2023 11:54

Oh no @mdinbc. If you enjoy it when you visit your daughter and are very keen you could start one nearer home.

It was lovely Christmassy event at my home parkrun this morning and I got another stopwatch bingo number - only six more to go 😃.

NatMoz · 23/12/2023 13:51

It was a Santa dash at my local parkrun. Numbers were double normal at around 600. Was a bit of walking at the tighter bits where we were single file.

I got beaten by a star and 3 wise men just before the finish line🤣.

Not sure how i got around it to be honest. Was sooo hungover from last night 🥂

I'll be doing the Christmas day one there too as it's only half a mile from the house.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 23/12/2023 17:46

Ours was busy today and is doing Christmas and NY day runs. We ran today and we're volunteering for the extra ones, on finish tokens on Monday and parkwalking on NY day!

Yorkshiregold · 23/12/2023 22:20

I did some touristing along with some family visiting. Fastish, flattish and lots of fun. I always enjoy doing a new course. Still deciding whether to do a Christmas Day one or not. Will depend what time all the presents get opened!

miked99 · 24/12/2023 22:04

Merry Christmas everyone,
There were over 300 runners at Curl Curl this morning, many in Christmas themed running outfits but the best was a lady in an inflatable Gingerbread man outfit.
The young man that holds the course record was there too, and came first by a huge distance. The Gingerbread man overtook me about 2Km in, but I'm still pleased with my time.

Hope everyone has a good day

Ah Merry Christmas @miked99!
Just getting ready for bed here. Still undecided whether I’ll parkrun in the morning. It depends what time all the presents get opened. If we’re up early then I should get a run in.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/12/2023 11:58

Happy Christmas all! DS1 and I ran our local this morning. Lots of people in fancy dress and a very big turn out today. A great start to the day.

MirandaWest · 25/12/2023 15:40

I did my most local as the crow flies parkrun this morning along with nearly 800 others. Was good fun. And if I do Saturday's it will be 40 for the year

Iamanunsafebuilding · 26/12/2023 11:03

We had 208 at ours yesterday, average is about 140! Loads of runners dressed up, we volunteered doing finish tokens and had a thoroughly enjoyable hour! Tail walker was back in 56 mins so we were back home just after 10:30 😊

HarrogateMum · 26/12/2023 17:22

I did my local at you guessed it Harrogate yesterday 550 people some in christmas pyjamas and the usual santa hats and turkey hats. First time I have done one on Christmas day and definitely won't be the last! Last Saturday was Huddersfield and this Saturday Normanby Hall in LIncs.

SequinBear · 28/12/2023 11:00

Hey, can I ask a question about Parkrun?

I looked at joining my local running club, but they have a rule about no headphones/music.

Is that the same for Parkrun, does anyone know?

There are no rules about headphones. I do believe one of the Reading ones asks you only wear one earphone as they have a few visually impaired runners.

RunningAndSinging · 28/12/2023 11:15

They did used to discourage it and one of my locals used to say it wasn’t allowed in the briefing but they are sponsored by a bone conducting headphone company now so maybe it is changing.

this official line is on this link

AuntieStella · 28/12/2023 15:40

Headphones of all kinds are permitted at parkrun.

It's affiliated events where it's bone-conducting only, and parkrun is most definitely not that.

Bone-conductors are the best to have however for safety reasons, and for acceptability at other events/races.
