Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

We've had a good one. One DC smashed a new pb despite the heat, DH shaved some seconds off his. I ran a nice comfortable threshold run.

I was happy to do a bread and butter type run as my body's done plenty in the past 10 days or so.

A good turn out, but probably also benefiting from a couple of others in the vincinity being off as well as a bright, warm morning.

AuntieStella · 10/09/2023 14:02

I was about to recommend Flanci too!

I shall now suspect all parkrun tourists in that brand of being visiting MNetters!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/09/2023 14:19

@AuntieStella unfortunately I prefer plain leggings, although I always admire other runners with jazzy ones.

No parkrun for me yesterday as I was at another running event. Well done to @miked99 and mimi-mike! Glad you all enjoyed @BogRollBOGOF.

MirandaWest · 10/09/2023 14:48

I’m going through a good running patch recently and so decided to put a bit of an effort in for yesterday’s parkrun and was rewarded with my fastest time of the year and fastest time at that course since 2014 (admittedly I don’t do that course too Often but it still felt good. Plus my km splits were very consistent).

Was very warm. Was in a flanci skort and matching crop top and was glad I was

NatMoz · 11/09/2023 11:45

I'm on holiday in US so did Jamaica Pond Parkrun, got my J and another towards Jetsetter challenge!

There were at least 6 other British people there! The run director i think was British too (maybe ex pat,)

There's been a bit of controlled burning in the National Parks round Sydney this week to prevent bushfires, so there has been a bit of smoke in the air for days. So I wasn't expecting the best conditions this morning, but it turned out to be a clear morning and we had around 400 runners at Curl Curl. I dont have my result yet but I was a few places higher than last week so am hopeful about my time. Definitely got Date bingo and Position bingo at the very least.
Good luck to everyone running or volunteering this weekend.

Well done @miked99 - glad it was a clear morning for you.

I met up with a friend this morning at a new (to me) parkrun. A smallish field meant that I finished in double figures, and a fast friend meant that I had my fastest time since February so I'm a happy bunny.

miked99 · 17/09/2023 05:37

Congratulations @OhOneOhTwoOhThree on a good time and a high finish, its a great way to start the weekend.
I dream of finding an event with just a handful of runners and finishing in the top 10

No Parkrun for me, was instead stuck in London Heathrow due to a missed connection to Manchester. Had to lug 3 suitcases, a travel cot, 2 rucksacks and a toddler half way across London to catch a train from Euston! Oh and British Airways lost our pram😭😭😭😭

Better luck on Saturday coming as I'm celebrating my friend's 100th parkrun and 50th different event. It'll be a new event for me too putting my different event tally to 35!!

It's school holidays in Oz so we are on a road trip and stopped in Taree last night.
The Parkrun was alongside the Manning River with dragon boats full of middle aged ladies training in the water next to us.
I didn't get any achievements other than 'T' for Alphabeteer, but one of the volunteers had brought a bucket full of ice poles at the finish so I had one of those. I've had ice poles and cakes at various other events over the years but the best was our very first Parkrun when the field was a lot smaller and they had a bbq making hot dogs for the finishers.
I think that was the day my son was sold on Parkrun

That sounds lovely @miked99 , hope you enjoy the school holidays. I had a plod round my local and there was a fundraiser cake stall so I came home with brownies and flapjacks. My only achievement was another one towards my double ton.

RunningAndSinging · 23/09/2023 12:56

At my local today and got best ever age grading there. Still chasing a PB since early 2020 but much closer today.

QueSyrahSyrah · 23/09/2023 14:12

It was an anniversary for our local Parkrun today so a busy one!

Lovely run, rain stayed off, catch up with pals in the cafe afterwards. No achievements but if I'd let DH go ahead at me at the finish instead of diving in front of him I'd have got another stopwatch bingo. Lesson learned!

BogRollBOGOF · 23/09/2023 16:31

I've had a strong run today which was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting my body to settle for a steady but knackered 30+ mins.

I'm not particularly trying to be fast because I'm HM training, but I'm definitely feeling the benefit of speed/ 5k training over the summer.

miked99 · 30/09/2023 02:03

We were at Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast this morning, where about 1/4 of the runners were tourists, with the furthest coming from Brazil!
Thankfully there was a lot of shade on the course as it was warm for 7am and it was a scenic course along a river and round a park, I'm getting too used to flat courses and will get a shock when we return to our home events.
Only got Date Bingo and a B for Staying Alive
Hope everyone enjoys their run or volunteer today

I'm on holiday in Florida and we're doing a parkrun that is about 40 minutes away. Looking at the website it's a tiny one, averaging 32 finishers a week!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/09/2023 11:10

Morning all!

I parkwalked today with someone who is recovering from heart surgery. We also had 5K your way and a group of stroke survivors today, so a very uplifting morning surrounded by inspirational people.

RunningAndSinging · 30/09/2023 12:00

Fabulous morning working on my P index and getting a course PB and a stopwatch bingo. It is a beautiful parkrun a bit further away than usual and it tied in with a friend’s plans this week too. Bumped into another friend there as well. Perfect parkrun morning.

Lemonyyy · 30/09/2023 14:45

Did my first parkrun in 2 months today. Perfect morning for it, cool but not cold and no rain. A bit muddy in parts but managed a 2 minute course PB!!

BogRollBOGOF · 30/09/2023 15:39

Fantastic work!
It was great conditions for PBing. Two of us volunteered at the finish line this morning, and the other two family members PBed by minutes.

miked99 · 07/10/2023 00:04

Back home to a cool damp Curl Curl this morning which must have helped a bit as I did my best time for a few months and got Position and Date bingo.
Most of my 'missing' positions are in a block and also 00, I've no idea how to target those.

Good luck to everyone this weekend

We are doing Bushy Park tomorrow! Staying at a Travelodge for a gig in Teddington and realised how close we are.
800 people + ? I can't imagine what that'll be like.

If it's only 800, that means turnout is well down!

The start area is really wide, which helps a bit. But the whole thing (unless you are a racing snake at the front, or walking at the back) will be pretty congested, so it's probably not a PB course.

Their funnel management is quite something!

Have fun!!

Isn't it strange, most of my remaining bingo times are in a block too! I got 00 today, but I've had it before.

beguilingeyes · 07/10/2023 12:59

I was in position 1471! I was more interested in looking at the scenery than running. So many deer. Beautiful day for it too.
