Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

I did Hafan Pwllheli on the 12th august. All run on the beach which was quite hard going and then even worse on the way back as the wind pushed me backwards (or so it felt!) Had my PW (personal worst) excluding tail walking but glad to have done it!

Can anyone suggest some running leggings with decent pockets? My favourite pair have developed a hole down the inside leg seam.

Football season is finally over here in Australia, so my son and I were back at Curl Curl on a beautiful clear morning with about 350 others. My knee was playing up so I was very slow , but at least I got Date Bingo, my son however got a PB by 50 seconds and is already planning for next time

Well done @miked99 and son!

I was at my home parkrun today. Feeling pretty wiped out after a busy week but good to see people. We go on holiday next weekend so I will be touristing for the next couple of weeks.

LizziesTwin · 19/08/2023 13:22

Still working my way towards my 100 runs & 50 volunteers. Date bingo but that’s all. Slower than the last two weeks but sprinted at the end faster.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 19/08/2023 13:37

A smooth run director stint today. It’s great when all goes ok.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/08/2023 19:30

Date bingo for me too, and finish place bingo too. And an accidental Nelson, although I don't think they are a "thing" any more and have been taken off the app.

Sturdy by design

Am off to a fairly nearby but not properly local parkrun tomorrow. Last did it in February so interested to see what it's like in August. Is in a proper park which makes a nice difference from some I do 😀

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2023 16:17

Not sure on my plans for the morning. It'll be a gentle, local one if I go as I've got plans for the weekend and don't want to peak too early.

I'm in my high 80s so if I go most weeks, I can do my 100 around New Year. There's a little slack for life in that.

I'll be breaking my streak though; my last 4 parkruns have all been course bests! I've ended up at different courses and happened to break my record at each of them.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2023 16:24

I think I'd struggle with a 5 lap parkrun. Partly keeping count (although distance on the watch helps) and partly the mid-pack mix of lapping and being lapped. I find 3 lap courses awkward if the paths are tight on width.
One of my regulars is a 2 lap course and I'm always relieved to get on lap 2 and not have the front runners thundering past me.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/08/2023 18:58

We’re on holiday and most of the local ones are cancelled for various reasons. So I’m thinking about going to the one that is on, although it will likely be busy with regulars from the others and visitors like me. I last ran it in 2014, so will not be PB’ing tomorrow.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2023 22:51

My holiday parkrun was practically a guarenteed cb- we last did it 4 years ago and was running at child pace- they were 6/8 then so it was well under my usual running pace and easy to beat!

Looking forwards to next spring when we're free from the arm's length rule. It's very awkward when your 10½ yo is cruising at 2mins quicker than your pb! He's used to running at his own pace at juniors so finds it frustrating to be held back by adults. I tested his potential out by taking him to a flat parkrun course and chasing on my bike.

He's been a good incentive for me to focus on speed work this year though.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/08/2023 11:46

Hope everyone had a good run today. As expected I was a bit slower than last time, but apparently had a better age grading so that was good. Date bingo as well, still waiting for that last bit very elusive stopwatch bingo time.

@BogRollBOGOF hope your weekend goes well!

@SouthCountryGirl thanks for the recommendation.

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/08/2023 11:59

Slow chatty one today with friends, first time back in a few weeks due to various things. Nice burst of torrential rain for the first half km but cleared to sunshine so breakfast outside the cafe after Smile

Flanci or the M&S good move range

Flanci or the M&S good move range

Thank you @NotFastButFurious ! I have some M&S yoga leggings - I have tried running in them (when I've grabbed them from a drawer thinking they were my black running leggings) but they don't stay up. Haven't heard of Flanci - off to google!

NotFastButFurious · 27/08/2023 18:52

You need the running leggings not yoga ones. Flanci are bright patterns but do long, thermal, cropped, shorts and skorts.

MirandaWest · 27/08/2023 21:31

Had an excellent parkrun yesterday - I’ve been doing a training programme fo increase my 5k pace and decided to try a bit holder yesterday.

Was rewarded with my fastest parkrun time this year and it was a sub 30 min one which for me is very good indeed!

I wear Flanci skorts for all my running and find them very good. Have got some leggings although use those for walking or volunteering at parkrun.

Just signed up to volunteer after running this Saturday.

Just signed up to volunteer after running this Saturday.

Hope you enjoy it. Volunteering definitely has made me feel more a part of things. What time are you going to do?

RunningAndSinging · 30/08/2023 11:40

*I meant what role are you going to do?

LizziesTwin · 30/08/2023 13:32

I’m bar code scanning after I’ve run - I do it most weeks and/or token sort. My ratio is 45% now I think. My goal is to be over 50% by the time I get my 100.

MirandaWest · 30/08/2023 18:40

Was considering which parkrun to do on Saturday but as I am doing a 10k race on Friday night and an email came from my home parkrun wanting volunteers I decided that being a timekeeper was more sensible 😊

miked99 · 09/09/2023 05:24

I finally managed my 100th run at my home parkrun today.
It was a cool clear morning so great conditions for a PB.... which I missed by a large margin, didn't get any of the bingos but am still happy.
My son who was also running his 100th at at the course got his PB and beat me by a few hundred positions, so he was a fair bit happier.

Hope everyone running or volunteering has a great day
