Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

I too will be in Denmark and Sweden next week. That will take me to 5 countries.

I see you were, and Denmark too. How fabulous 😃

parkrunner1977 · 07/06/2023 12:46

The Denmark & Sweden double was a great success (although not the running times I recorded!) Weather was fab and the turnout for the ones we did were incredible. We were at Amager Strandpark on Monday, a nice 2 lapper by the beach. Attendance was in region of 665, we were told that is more than the usual amount of runners for ALL of the Denmark events put together! At the Sweden event in Vaxjo they normally have about 22 runners, they had 727 yesterday!!! They also led us all in a warm up to Abba's Mamma Mia which was good fun😆A flat 1 lap course around a beautiful lake & park. The town itself was also really lovely. It was a very tiring trip not helped by being delayed flying home (didn't get in until about 2am this morning 😫) but very glad we went and would definitely recommend it 😀

Were you in Sweden? I’m very jealous if so. Sounds amazing.

Oh it was amazing! At the Swedish parkrun I did, they did a warm up (we only do warm up at juniors in the UK) to Abba.

And we were treated to the national anthem at both the Swedish and Danish parkruns.

Sounds like you were at the same two we were at @SouthCountryGirl

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/06/2023 23:48

How funny to think that you were both at the same parkruns last weekend @parkrunner1977 and @SouthCountryGirl!

I did my triple on Saturday - tail walked and got my 50th volunteer credit and 250th run credit, and a double ton at my home run. Failed on stopwatch bingo though.

Visiting my parents this Saturday so will likely be touring somewhere along the A1 or M1 corridor between my home and theirs - Cusworth Hall or Brierly Forest if I'm up and on the road early enough.

NDerbys32 · 09/06/2023 13:41

Hi all. Stepping back in to parkrun tomorrow after almost two years out. 138 up until then, and been putting off my return for a while - lord knows why.

Cusworth and Brierley were always good. Cusworth has a bit of a hill though.

Wearing in my new runners today - enjoy tomorrow folks!

MirandaWest · 09/06/2023 17:20

I did Cusworth hall about 6 months ago - the hill is quite challenging or is for me at least as there’s not many hills here at all 😃

Planning on going to Nostell Priory tomorrow - will be a new one for me

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/06/2023 19:04

Thank you for the Cusworth hill advice! I'll see how brave I'm feeling in the morning.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/06/2023 14:01

Hope your return to parkrun went well. I did my home parkrun. It was lovely to see everyone and run with another regular volunteer for part of the course and have a bit of a chat.

LizziesTwin · 10/06/2023 17:07

I did set up & then ran at a new to me PR. My run was rather disappointing as I was too hot & I felt tired from doing sprints & cycling & going to a concert yesterday. However it’s another towards my 100.

MirandaWest · 10/06/2023 17:57

Did Nostell Priory this morning - have realised that doing a 10k race the night before, then not really eating or drinking enough afterwards probably wasn’t the best thing and probably contributed to me needing to walk an amount. But my time was OK and now I’ve done 98 parkruns! Need to make sure I keep parkrun momentum once I get to 100 as 250 is quite a way away.

At least I do them more often now - first 25 took me about 7.5 years but the next 75 will have been about 3.25 years and that includes the 16 or so months off for lock down 😃

CalmConfident · 12/06/2023 07:24

The challenges and 5k app have helped carry me from 100 to 250 as it gave me new things to aim for on the way @MirandaWest . well done on pushing to the magic 💯

i just achieved 100 volunteers (mainly juniors) which has given me lots of parkrun pride too ☺️

CalmConfident · 12/06/2023 07:26

If anyone is ever at Brierley my lovely mum
is a marshal there ☺️ super friendly team and a fab cafe

CalmConfident · 12/06/2023 07:27

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree congratulations and fabulous planning 😊😊😊😊

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 12/06/2023 09:12

I did Brierley this week - it's my home parkrun, and hadn't been there yet in 2023.

Last time was volunteering as tailwalker so 1st time I'd run it in ages... was a lovely day.

It's a really nice parkrun, plenty of shade and not too hilly.

Fizbosshoes · 12/06/2023 09:21

I chose the hottest day of the year to do do my first parkrun of 2023. I've been not very enthusiastic about my running recently and disappointed I seem to be getting slower. So I did a pr ive never done before so I cant compare it to my "old" times.
So glad that I did it, and now inspired to go and do my local pr again when I next have a free saturday

NatMoz · 12/06/2023 19:40

I volunteered on Saturday as marshall with my 18m old and Sat coming up I'm a volunteer pacer (but always do a terrible job of it🤣)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/06/2023 19:40

Oooooh @putthehamsterbackinitscageIi was there as well! It was absolutely lovely. @CalmConfident all the volunteers were super-friendly. I wonder if I met your Mum?!

CalmConfident · 12/06/2023 21:32

I bet you did :) She was at Edwards bench on Saturday (as Edward on holiday !)

If she was one of the two ladies doing the first timers briefing, one of whom mentioned Edward’s bench, then I did!

Such a small world! Last time I toured I got chatting to someone who said his son was involved is setting up one of my local parkruns. We eventually joined the dots to work out that said son is married to one of my swimming group. I love how parkrun connects so many people.

CalmConfident · 13/06/2023 07:58

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree well then - you did meet my Mum! How awesome :)

She was shadowing first timer welcome on Saturday, doing it on her own next week ☺️She’s well on track for her 100 volunteers at Brierley by Sept. Doing parkrun stuff at the same time on Saturday even though we are miles apart has given us a rich vein of chat, and helped us feel connected. Mum only ever volunteers and has found a lovely new community of people with purpose, parkrun is a marvellous thing ❤️

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/06/2023 18:37

Oh that’s amazing @CalmConfident She did a brilliant job of the briefing and then cheered us all as we went past. Do say thank you to her next time you speak to her. We had a little chat before the briefing and I really enjoyed meeting her.

NatMoz · 16/06/2023 09:08

Love the above messages regarding someone's mum! I adore how Parkrun connects people, even anonymously online🤣🤣.

Tomorrow i have a tiny parkrun window of opportunity as my friends are getting to mine for 10:30 before we head off to the Emma Bridgewater factory to paint pottery😜.

I'm going to my local one which is 0.5 miles away (very convenient for tight timings like this). I'm volunteer pacing at 35 mins then will run up the hill home to shower and get dressed for their arrival.

Not sure if i could fit it all in if i had to drive somewhere.

Also last time i paced i was terrible so hopefully i won't be quite so out this time round🤣. Felt like I didn't deserve a volunteer credit i did such a terrible job of it.

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/06/2023 11:48

Happy Almost Weekend All. A very rare bit of Tourism for us tomorrow!

Circumstances mean we only really get to visit other runs when we're away for a weekend; in fact this will be DH's very first tourist run and only the 4th for me😃

I won't be any more specific than 'London' as people in real life know where we're planning to go but we're very excited.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/06/2023 20:13

Sounds like you have a lovely day planned @NatMoz - hope all goes to plan!

Enjoy your London tourism @QueSyrahSyrah

I'm running at home tomorrow.
