I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

I've done it, yesterday I completed my last C25K run and ran my fastest time so far! I'm so happyGrin

Mummyoply · 09/06/2021 11:18

Can anyone help with some good running songs l, I need to extend my play list. I like running to 'big' women's power type songs! Things like : run the world, salute, power, shake it off

purplesequins · 09/06/2021 11:23

mummyoply
well done.
I prefer podcasts but kitchen disco has good tunes

@Mummyoply well done!

KnobJockey · 09/06/2021 11:30

Struggling with motivation a bit here, the heat makes me tired! Finding it a struggle to find time around work/ partner not knowing what time he'll be home/ toddler childcare/ food organising, etc. I'm trying my hardest to fit in 3 a week, but in reality I'm failing at that and beating myself up about it, which makes me not want to go the next time. So I think I need to settle for 2 a week and set those days in stone.

BarryTheKestrel · 09/06/2021 11:35

I started a few weeks ago and definitely need some motivation today for week 3 run 2. I went out on Monday and lightly twisted my knee, it is feeling better but I'm not sure running again today is going to help.

I'm averaging 3k over the 30 minutes currently, so need to improve my brisk walks I think as they are definitely not as brisk as they should be!

purplesequins · 09/06/2021 11:48

don't worry about the speed yet barry

wrt your knee, if it doesn't hurt walking then I would give it a go. if it's not yet up to it try again in a couple of days.
in between runs it's good to do strength exercises (clams for example) and stretchesz

emilyjeff · 09/06/2021 11:55

Big well done mummyopoly!
I usually have the radio on, or quite chilled music for my long runs, stops me going too fast!
I went out yesterday morning about 8.30 it was already getting warm so changed my route to go thru a wooded area near me. Worked quite well went very slow and didn't feel too hot til I was nearly home

Mummyoply · 09/06/2021 11:59

Thanks @KnobJockey @purplesequins

@BarryTheKestrel I struggled with the power walks at first too. I didn't expect to as before I started running I used to power walk every weekend and I'm generally a fast Walker, however this did not translate to me C25K sessions initially. Increasing my walking past definitely helped with time and distance and also with my motivation as I could see the distance I was covering increasing.

I started my trying to keep the pace but slightly increasing my stride length and then quickness of pace. I also find having a good song to pace to really helped me. Good luck - you can and will do it Smile

BarryTheKestrel · 09/06/2021 12:18

I went out and it turns out whilst my knee is happy wondering around the house, outside is a different matter and after half the warm up walk I was clearly more hobbling than walking so a detour home. Managed a 1k walk/hobble. Now have taken some ibuprofen and have it iced, will give it a couple days and try again.

A few weeks ago I'd have been glad for an excuse to not run, now I'm quite gutted I can't. Who am I? Grin

purplesequins · 09/06/2021 17:34

after 10 days abstinence I managed a nice slow 5k this afternoon.

EmilyDickinson · 09/06/2021 22:46

Welcome TwoLeftElbows you’ve done brilliantly getting to week 4 (I think week 1 day 1 is the hardest run as starting is the biggest step). Keep going!

Mummyopoly congratulations on your graduation! 🎉

KnobJockey honestly don’t beat yourself up. I only manage two runs a week, sometimes only one, what matters is keeping going no matter how slowly. Every run you tick off is an achievement.

Barry sorry you’re having knee trouble. It’s strange how you start to miss running isn’t it? I was never a runner but now I want to do it. It’s very strange. Do rest and recover properly though. Maybe in a couple of days go for a walk along your running route and see how you are before going running again.

purplesequins · 10/06/2021 06:11

wrt how often to run I usually run twice a week. a 5k midweek and a longer run (up to an hour now) on the weekend.
after the long run I need 2 days rest for my legs and during the week it's difficult to fit an additional one in with chores and getting dc to their activities.

emilyjeff · 11/06/2021 06:57

Yes I agree it can be quite hard fitting in 3x a week if I wasn't WFH I would be struggling for time. Particularly with the heat as it kind of limits uou to going early or late in the day
Did an interval run yesterday morning about 7am. It was quite overcast here so not as warm as it has been.
I'm away for a long weekend again caravanning, leaving lunch time today. Not sure what's on garmin plan for the weekend but hoping it's a long easy run so I can do some exploring where we're staying. Think it's gonna be a hot one tho!

purplesequins · 12/06/2021 10:36

I have a cadence question.
my new smart watch toy gives me a cadence of 159 on my run today (7k) is that ok? should I try for more or less?

emilyjeff · 12/06/2021 20:01

Just looked on my garmin stats @purple on my easy run my average cadence was 154. It's not something I ever monitor to be honest

purplesequins · 12/06/2021 20:25

tbh only after seeing it on the watch I thought about it really.

ExConstance · 14/06/2021 10:29

Still plodding on here. One more week 7 run of 25 minutes to do, maybe in the morning. I'm motivated by my target on the Noom diet ap I'm doing. I told my coach that I wanted to be able to run 10 k by the end of September (about the time I'm likely to reach target weight of 9 stone) and she keeps asking about it. When i did 25 minutes at the end of week 6 i found it OK but hard. The first week 7 run was exhausting but the second much easier - i ran on to my special tre which was another minute or so (~The special tree is where I used to run to when I was running 10 years ago!) Here's hoping the next one inspires confidence for week 8.

purplesequins · 14/06/2021 10:50

that's a great goal constance

TwoLeftElbows · 14/06/2021 10:55

Well done @exconstance , how cool that you have a special tree!

@BarryTheKestrel I hope the knee is better soon.

I've just done W5R1 and I ran an extra 5 mins at the end making it 5 mins, 5 mins, 10mins. Trying to get a psychological edge over the impending W5R3!

PossiblyPertunia · 14/06/2021 14:40

I would love to join! I did the C25K sort of but skipped through some bits. I'm training for a 10k in September, still never managed to run more than 5k but I'm hoping to build up by 0.5 a week so that I'm hopefully there by the race. Aiming to run 3 times a week but usually only manage twice. Mondays is my distance run, Wednesday I do "fartlek" which is 30 sec sprint, walk, jog and repeat. And then Saturdays is whatever I can muster up the energy to do!

PossiblyPertunia · 14/06/2021 14:44

@purplesequins

My candence/stride rate is around 151 so yours is much better than mine!
purplesequins · 14/06/2021 16:48

pertunia good luck with the 10k.
I haven't entered a race but my goals for this year are

  • 5k in less than 30min (achieved)
  • run a 10k loop that takes me along the beach

for the beach I need more stamina, it's a lot harder to run on sand than other surfaces.
plus there is some impressive hills (dunes) I will have to get over. to get to/from the beach.

emilyjeff · 14/06/2021 20:07

Evening ladies, well done everyone that's been running in the heat.
I've not done any running whilst away! Done lots of walking tho. Today biked 6 miles whilst towing my dogs in the trailer which was hard going at times. Might run tomorrow morning if I'm up early if not I'll wait til weds to resume my training when we'll be back at home.

ExConstance · 15/06/2021 09:20

Emilyjeff We really need a picture of those dogs in the trailer, sounds so cute!
