Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

I personally don't find padded shorts help, the one pair of tights I do have with padding just leads to chafing (although they are cheapo Aldi ones)

I was going to say this actually, the size of the chamois (not necessarily the thickness) makes a HUGE difference. I much prefer the ones in my Tri kit because they're narrower, designed specifically not to chafe during the run.

I've found very few cycle specific shorts/leggings where the chamois isn't wide towards the back and so causes chafe along the underneath of my bum cheeks!!

The best ones seem to be more higher end stuff that have a women specific chamois. The cheaper stuff, while the shorts are women's fit, tend to have a generic/unisex chamois, I assume to save on cost! Hmm

It also helps to go commando...

SSwimCycle21 · 09/04/2021 19:30

11k hills. Even got a trophy from Strava (3rd woman up obscure hill on an ebike, don't panic).

When I got to the top a couple congratulated me. The first time I did it I beat a load of MAMILs (who then worked out it's an ebike sadly).

Run1000km2021 · 09/04/2021 23:17

Ha, well done @drspouse!

More running for me - yearly total so far 606km😊

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2021 17:02

Spring cleaning today, so just 5.3

604.4 walked
40 rowed

drspouse · 10/04/2021 18:53

Only 2 k shops and back for me today. Have a cold with sinus ache, thanks DH, but we're planning a family bike ride tomorrow as we have the rack on the car after my puncture fest.
Need to plan my next few weeks bike rides carefully as I have a service booked, group ride and I should be nearly at the end of my sofa to 50k!

SSwimCycle21 · 10/04/2021 19:24

A 5.5km run this morning and a seaswim that was very very cold.

running 252.5km
Swimming 11.3km
Cycling 473km

Run1000km2021 · 10/04/2021 19:24

No running for me today but another bike ride! I’m getting used to the bike now, it feels great.

Bike total 96.2km.

Run1000km2021 · 10/04/2021 19:25

So impressed with your sea swimming @SSwimCycle21!

TheLongRider · 11/04/2021 16:05

Another 178km this week. From tomorrow I get to travel around my county and 20km into the neighbouring one. I'm looking forward to seeing more places including the seaside and the Wicklow Mountains.

It's been two really tough weeks of Trainer Road training, but I got through them all without failing some hard workouts. Next week is recovery week.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2021 18:12

8.6km in late afternoon sunshine

613 walked
40 rowed

78percentLindt · 11/04/2021 18:53

I'm full of admiration for the sea swimmers and the long distance cyclists .
5K walk with my DSs and we tried a new walk published by the AONB. We are taking DS2 back to his house next week - he came home just before Christmas and got stranded, luckily with the work laptop. Its been lovely having him back, and bit gutted I was laid up with the ankle for 7 weeks so missed lots of walks with him.
I've done 41Km in April so far, 210K for the year.

78percentLindt · 11/04/2021 18:57

Oh, forgot- on Stava I am 4th placed in the world for part of our walk. DS1 is 9th and DS2 is nowhere- even though we were walking together

DH, who didn't come with us, is jealous!

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2021 19:00

Excellent! GrinI'm almost tempted to get Strava if you can get placed for obscure routes.

SarahGel3 · 11/04/2021 22:21

Again a couple of weeks since I've updated. This week 37.8km walking and 10.2km running.

623.3km walking
66.9 running
49.7 cycling
739.9/2021km

drspouse · 11/04/2021 22:24

Didn't go anywhere except the shop as DS had to go to A&E (he's fine now) but the house is tidy and I did my 10k steps.

78percentLindt · 11/04/2021 22:25

Its certainly an obscure piece of footpath, we've lived near for 20 plus years and didn't know about it. DS2 helped run the Cub pack in that village for DoE and they did lots of "hikes" and he had never used it.
I am fairly sure the fastest person must have forgotten to turn Strave off as it looks like a car time, which makes me 3rd! I feel like an athleteSmile

TheLongRider · 11/04/2021 23:05

You can create your own segments on Strava, so you could set one up for a really obscure route. You can also flag rides that have been done in a car.

tizwozliz · 12/04/2021 10:06

2.9km swim this morning. First 50m felt amazing, then just felt very weak for the rest!

drspouse · 12/04/2021 12:56

DH cold morphed into the sinus headache from hell so I'll be walking to the shops to buy decongestant. Hoping to get back on the bike tomorrow.

SSwimCycle21 · 12/04/2021 13:43

That’s a long swim tiz well done I couldn’t swim that far in normal conditions let alone after 3-4mths out of the pool. I had a lovely pool swim this morning too with the kids. I managed to hang on in the fast lane as only me and a teenager a girl, everyone else was potteling in the wide lane so we had a great time front crawl but my watch battery died Doh! So no idea how far but it was 25mins so I’ll estimate. Then I played with my kids in the other bit of the pool. It was truly lovely to see them smiling doing what they love.

running 252.5km
Swimming 12km
Cycling 473km

Run1000km2021 · 12/04/2021 22:13

Wow @tizwozliz that is such a long swim!!!

I had an epic day today (this rarely happens...)

15km run before work
10km bike ride over lunch (slow one! One toddler on the front and one on the back😂)
1km swim in the evening🤩🤩🤩 Felt amazing to be back in the pool after all these months.

Definitely need a rest day tomorrow😅😅😅
