Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

5km this am, beautiful morning and quiet, so nice not having to dodge people. Another 5k pb, 28:58.

132 km total

I'm aiming for 850 km running/walking and 150km swimming this year to make up to 1000. Cycling will be bonus kilometres. So I'm a little but behind schedule but not hugely. I managed 150km swimming last year in and around lockdowns so hoping that should be doable.

Hi guys, I'm still following you all, well done everyone.
After 6 weeks resting the ankle and doing the exercises, I walked to the post box and back yesterday, and then iced it. A whole half mile!
Today I can phone for a F2F physio appointment, after phone and on line consultations. Onwards and upwards
Think my target has gone through the floor.

TheLongRider · 09/03/2021 10:23

I did a ramp test this morning to recalculate my FTP. It's up by 10% #newbiegains

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2021 10:34

Thanks78% glad you're making some progress but it sounds frustratingly slow. Hope the physio can help.

TheLongRider · 09/03/2021 11:13

78% There's plenty of time left, no hurry. Be nice to yourself.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2021 13:37

9.8km. More signs of spring in the hedgerows.Smile

381.4 walked
35 rowed

SSwimCycle21 · 09/03/2021 13:45

I’d focus on what you can do not what you can’t 78%, I lost a good chunk of last year not running due to injury but as a result developed a love of seaswimming& did more yoga and cycling. Good luck.

Nice 7km run this morning and then sea swim with a friend I’d not seen for 2mths. Water was cold but beautiful blue sky day. Wind is building now though with storm approaching.

Running 196km
Swimming 8km
Cycling 251km

Can you set a goal on Strava without paying?

If not, I think I'll just carry on using Runkeeper (but there are a couple of groups I'd like to be members of on Strava).

TheLongRider · 09/03/2021 22:00

I'm not sure about goal setting on Strava. I finally coughed up for it last year having used it for eight years for free.

I don't use the goal setting feature. It'll usually tell you if you've got a PB anyway.

I had a lovely 5k this afternoon.
My running had been getting gradually slower since I stopped running in a group last March.
My last park run had been just under 28 minutes but this February, a year later, my 5ks were 32 minutes.
Got the last week or so I have been working on my time and today I was back down to just under 29 minutes.

Walking 246k

Running 196/804

Run1000km2021 · 10/03/2021 17:28

Dragged myself out for a slow 5km run this morning.

Why do some runs feel amazing and others awful? My legs were so heavy and I was so breathless (it’s not my period). Ugh. Hoping for a nicer one soon.

I don’t even care about being fast I just want to feel nice😂

drspouse · 10/03/2021 18:06

12k bike, VERY WET.

SSwimCycle21 · 11/03/2021 09:58

I know how you feel Run1000km2021 then I tell myself if I didn’t have the shit runs would I appreciate the great ones Smile? It’s crap though the slug legs of lead feeling. At least you got out all I managed was 40min dog walk yesterday and 15mins of yoga as I’m feeling SO stiff and blar at the moment and it’s too stormy for a sea swim reset.

tizwozliz · 11/03/2021 17:56

8km today, dodged the showers quite nicely as it's now throwing it down with hail. I did a 5km run on my own filled by a 3km run/walk to keep the other half company.

I ran today in some altras I bought, not 100% sure that they're going to be great for running, but I'd use them for walking irrespective so worth the risk (and they were on sale and red). They're great for my feet, although one of my calves ended up getting really tight. Not sure whether that's the shoes or because I was going for a continuous run rather than my normal run walk strategy.

I think I'm prob going to stick with a run walk strategy long term, I'm faster overall that way anyway and my running feels much better that way.

drspouse · 11/03/2021 21:55

3k walk today... First day off tomorrow with the DCs both in school for months and I am thinking of going for a bike ride... But 20mph wind... Maybe along the canal where it's a bit more sheltered.

drspouse · 12/03/2021 10:48

Sick DS so plans scuppered and it's lovely out! Gah!

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2021 11:34

I like your thinking @SSwimCycle21, I do appreciate the good runs more after a shit one😂 Just did another 21km, took the morning off work to celebrate everyone being back in school🤩🤩🤩 Am at 402km for the year now!

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2021 14:56

Hope your DS gets better soon, DrSpouse.

He's fine now, his school finishes early on a Friday for "cleaning" or he would have gone in after lunch!

SSwimCycle21 · 12/03/2021 19:40

@TheLongRider

I did a ramp test this morning to recalculate my FTP. It's up by 10% #newbiegains
That's brilliant well done!!!
TheLongRider · 12/03/2021 21:53

Thanks! It's more a case of old dog, new tricks. The last time I did structured training was in 2018 in the winter before an Ultra in the summer with some other crazy Audax stuff.

FrangipaniBlue · 12/03/2021 22:03

I signed up with a triathlon coach and he tells me I need to get my FTP up to 3-3.5w/kg so I'm currently trying to decide whether it's easier to get stronger legs or just lose weight 😂
