Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

TriSeaSwim2021 · 25/01/2021 21:11

Two sea swim yesterday and today to add in was -3c but beautiful sunrise swim this morning worth the effort to get out early on a blue sky day.

5km run/gingerly walking through the ice sheet patches this morning. Not really that fun as I was tense the whole time that I might slip. Still. Another 5km down and another forcing of my body to run.

drspouse · 26/01/2021 17:27

9k cycling, had to nip into work, was a good ride apart from a teeny patch of sheet ice which LUCKILY I did spot!

LaLaLanded · 26/01/2021 18:58

Glad nobody seems to have been caught by the ice! I also did a slightly nervous run this morning. 10km down so far this week.

I’ve not got Ice here (or at least none in the afternoon) and was so happy to add another 10km to my total today.
125km down, 875 to go!

TriSeaSwim2021 · 26/01/2021 19:32

19.97 miles this week, we've got a lot of ice/slush/snow here so taking short walks rather than longer ones!

Walking: 67.79/1432.21
Running: 0/50

I'd like to get to 100 walking miles for January, it will be a push but I think I can do it! Couple of long walks at the weekend and all will be fine!

HapHap · 26/01/2021 21:34

@LaLaLanded The furthest I've ever ran was 10 miles, and that was a few months ago. Today I managed 15km fairly comfortably, my usual length runs are 8km-12km. I LOVE the idea of breaking it up into the 4x 5kms segments, thank you! Just four and a bit Parkruns, right?!

@Run1000km2021 I hope I can do it! I haven't got any training plan, I'm just adding 1km each week to my longest run. Do you think that is sensible? I have to add mileage v-e-r-y slowly and steadily otherwise my knees complain! I do a lot of strength exercises too to keep injury away but I don't like to risk it.

Today's stats
130km running
92.5km walking

TriSeaSwim2021 · 27/01/2021 10:43

haphap that’s a great run 15km you will have no problem getting to 21km now. My biggest leaning point was fueling, as I could do 10m on drink alone but bonked trying to go further. Now I force myself to take mouthfuls from a snack bar at the 10k mark which worked for me. Good luck. I’m hoping to do my virtual half on the 14th.

Grey sunrise SeaSwim this morning but it felt warm after Monday’s Icy swim.

It was foul here yesterday but fine today, and milder. We found a cut-through we'd not noticed before to a road which is now quiet following some bypass work so went a bit further than usual for a local walk - 11.1

115.2 walked
21.5 rowed

drspouse · 27/01/2021 16:04

3.5k again, just walking round at lunchtime and up the very steep hill.

How do you all find the time for these long walks (even dog walks which I know can be in bits/very early)?

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2021 16:10

I find time by (a) not having DC to look after - mine's a student - and (b) having a part time job. And I've got DH with me so it's good chatting time.

But you're doing brilliantly on consistency, which racks up the distance just as well as longer walks or runs less frequently, DrSpouse. 3km a day is well over 1000 in a year.

drspouse · 27/01/2021 16:12

I'm actually just over 90k walking and 40k bike so far! I think having the DC partly in school means I have a lot of school run opportunities plus there's the getting them out for fresh air at the weekend thing.

Inniu · 27/01/2021 16:30

I had a couple of glasses of red wine last night so dragged myself around a 6k run this morning.
Dragged the dog around 5k walk afterwards

@TriSeaSwim2021 agree if you can do 15km you’re solid for a half! Interested in how you fuel if you have any advice? I run a half with just water but am sure it slows me down in the last 4km or so. Interested in adopting a fueling strategy before the half I’ve signed up to in May (which might not happen). Do you stop to eat, or just run at a slower pace? Does it mess up your breathing pattern at all?

10km for me this morning. New shoes! I couldn’t find my usual Nike zoom fly 3 the right size so went for the hoka rocket x as an alternative and tried them out today. If anyone is looking for a fairly fast, carbon plated shoe that is good for training on the road, would recommend. They feel more like a normal shoe than the zoom fly 3, which is basically good for running fairly fast and nothing else in my opinion.

215.6km/2021

TriSeaSwim2021 · 28/01/2021 11:40

LaLaland I just walked for a min at a steady pace whilst eating a snack bar I ate half then ran for 1km again then ate the second half. I like the oatie ones from Stoats or the Lidl’s Apple ones it’s just a sugar oats hit but it was enough to stop me crashing last time I ran a half.

Quick seaswim dip again this morning it was a bigger swell but the stronger winds created offshore flatten the waves but I stuck close to shore line just in case. Great sunrise again but it’s 10mins earlier now which is lovely but I have to get organised quicker to nip out the door Smile

5k total today doing DD school run and round the park, and DS school pickup.

6km today in total as I did my first complete 5km nonstop since about June last year. Now I just need to slowly get faster so I can think about moving up distances.
