New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

Ooooh, I just ordered a new (well, refurbished) watch with some of our Christmas money! A Garmin 45s. Hope it’s good. I’m using a Forerunner 10 at the moment so this should be a significant upgrade. DH is going to use my old one for cycling.

Purpleraindeer · 27/12/2020 19:09

Spudlet I got a garmin 45 for Xmas. It has a lot of data. I’m finding it hard to get used to. I feel like it is watching me and judging if I’m going too slow! I am hoping I get used to it. I did feel like I wasn’t a ‘proper’ runner without one though.
8 muddy, flooded post Bella miles today. Beautiful sunshine though

May I please ask, do you do a new thread like this in the new year? Wish I had seen this earlier!

Thanks!

emummy · 27/12/2020 20:18

Hi @Salapandas, this thread will continue till it’s full, it’s not just for this year. It is the 16th thread, we just keep going!

emummy · 27/12/2020 20:19

So when it’s full we just roll on to the next one.

My recovery run turned into a dash (though won a crown) as made the school big mistake of bringing the children on their bikes. It was gorgeous today though

At least tomorrow is a rest day

An icy (and slower than I wanted) 5 miles this morning, had to keep changing pace due to black ice.

Still beautiful, and along the coast road.

I'm upping my runs from 3 to 4 a week from this week, varying distances and getting a feel for time. Then I can set some goals for the month.

Hello, all. I am still very much a beginner as I'm on week 8 of c25k. (v proud of that though as it's the furthest I've ever got with it). Due to to w8r2 today Grin. Am looking for inspiration for beyond w9 as I really want to continue with it. (For background I have never been "into" any sport apart from a couple of years with swimming, walking, and fitness classes in my 20s so this is new for me.) Is it ok for me to join you very fit lot?

dubyalass · 28/12/2020 10:45

Also very much a beginner - almost at 4k after starting about 6 weeks ago so feeling quite pleased with myself. Now starting to actually enjoy the runs rather than feeling completely done in and unable to breathe. Also noticing a difference in body shape/leg tone, which is very welcome.

emummy · 28/12/2020 11:27

Welcome @Ralphiesaurus and @dubyalass! All runners welcome here.
There is an app similar to C25k that gets you to 10 k I think @Ralphiesaurus, if you would like to build up your distance. Or if you want to get faster you could download a training plan for doing a faster 5k, there are loads online. It depends what you would like to do and what you would enjoy. Or sign up for one of the many virtual races and challenges that are around just now while we all wait for in person races to begin!

Hi @emummy and thanks! I've signed up for the CRUK Winter Run Virtual 10k with a few friends - it's been a brilliant motivator and I need to sign up for something else afterwards to keep me going. I run alone because I don't want to slow other people down but I would like to join a running club once we're able to again.

Just been out and only managed 3.4km but I'm blaming post-Christmas tiredness! Next run on Weds, a different route this time.

PaddingtonPaddington · 28/12/2020 13:31

Great to see more joining the thread, everyone is welcome.

Lovely 8 miler this morning, cold but sunny.

IRun4Me · 28/12/2020 13:51

Hello and welcome to all the new people. Great to have you on here.
I tend to run on my own dubyalass as I like the time out. I do have a friend I sometimes run with and that is nice. I’ve never joined a running club though but know they can be good for motivation and support.
A totally wet muddy run this morning. At one point the path was totally underwater and impassable. I end up having to run through the actual wood for some of it which meant a fair bit of ducking under branches. Thankfully no one was around otherwise they’d have probably thought I was mad. It definitely took an off road run to another level

Hi all hope you had a good Christmas. Missed being with my sisters and dad but alot to be said for only having ourselves to please.

Did 6km boxing day morning and 10km in 1 degree and sleet this morning!

Iamblossom · 28/12/2020 14:38

I sometimes run with a friend which is very sociable but she is slower than me... I don't really mind tbh as it means we can chat but sometimes at the end of the runs it's actually just not possible for me to run that slow so I end up doing the last km or so on my own, neither of us mind though.

I also run with my dogs does that count as not running alone 😂. I have a miniature Daxie and a black lab. Daxie has a lion heart, easily does 10km with me, as does the lab but he is very stiff after that distance, he's young but has dodgy front legs so I don't do that every week with him. If I run without them I do road runs. I have to vary it for stress management as the lab loves to chase cyclists, I have to have eyes in the back of my head.... 🙄

This morning I ran in run tights, 2 long sleeved thermal tops, gloves, a woolly hat and a rain mac! 🥶

Ralphiesaurus · 28/12/2020 19:14

Thanks for the welcome and advice @emummy. I was pleased today that my phone told me for the first time that I had run. Until now I've felt a bit dissed by it when each time it tells me I've had a walk Hmm. Yes I'm not fast, but still! Anyway v proud to have done w8r2 and really enjoyed it. Funny how they vary.

UnaOfStormhold · 28/12/2020 19:28

Merry Christmas all, between rubbish weather, a 6 year old underfoot and a cold I've not got out as much as normal but hoping to start making a bit more progress soon - can't believe it's new year soon!

Evening all! Can I join? I'll be 6 weeks postpartum with my first baby on New Years day and am chomping at the bit to get back to exercising..I stopped running at 20 ish weeks pregnant because I had a fall (nothing serious) while running at it scared me. Tried to keep active but was a bit anxious as the pregnancy was a bit of a miracle so mainly did walking, gardening etc. Currently don't recognise the insane boobs and the general squareness of my torso, or indeed the tiredness and twitchy legs! Feel it's going to be a slow road to recovery but just can't wait to get outside and run/jog/walk quickly.

UnaOfStormhold · 28/12/2020 21:50

Welcome @RestorationInsanity . I managed to fall flat on my face first time I played tennis postpartum because my centre of gravity wasn't where I thought it was, but once I worked that out it was wonderful to be active again.

50FootWave · 29/12/2020 07:36

Morning all, rest day for me.

Well, not totally as need to start a lower body work out programme at home, as not able to see my personal trainer.

Has anyone come across a good one on-line, with weights?

Ideally one for lower body/core, and one for upper body/core which I can alternate....

emummy · 29/12/2020 10:05

Welcome @RestorationInsanity! Good luck with restarting, hope it goes well.
A slippery snowy run this morning. We had loads of snow last night then it annoyingly rained a bit. Still about an inch of snow but a fair bit of ice, so much fun.
Don’t know any good online workouts with weights, sorry @50FootWave, hopefully someone else will.

50FootWave · 29/12/2020 12:32

Beautiful, @emummy, what a glorious start to the day. Perfect.

Thanks re workout - there are a gazillion on line, just need to try a few and pick my faves. I'm taking DS to the park this avo and they have a green gym, so I can load up on hand gel and do something there as well.

Tomorrow is my short and fast run...hoping to do a 5km in 35 mins or under....I have no benchmark for this as I never usually wear a watch!

UnaOfStormhold · 29/12/2020 14:50

Managed my first long run for a few weeks which was satisfying - no snow here, just very, very muddy, making me walk/squelch/mince along in some places. Oh, and one freezing, too-wide-to-go-round and much-deeper-than-expected puddle that went over the tops of my shoes which was a bit of a shock to the system!

@50FootWave James Dunne does some good youtube videos aimed at strength/mobility for runners, generally with resistance bands or body weight rather than weights but they're very effective at finding muscles I didn't know I had!
