New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

We all love those Brucey bonus mile runs 😃

Another 8 and 6. Physio has cleared me for a return to speed (beginner style though) but I can’t work out how to ease myself into it (and not just do too much too soon). I’ll get through this last 50 mile week and then enjoy recovery week before deciding.

I managed my first ever strava legend last night - my club is doing a Strava challenge to have two local legends by the end of the month, so I found a nice little loop to go round, I carefully chose one that nobody else in the club was local legend on so I'm now hoping nobody will try to take it away!

I'm still feeling my hamstrings a bit but not too bad and my knees seem better for all the strength work.

I normally do about 30k a week as doing more seems to lead quite quickly to niggles, taking it a bit easier this week because of my hamstrings.

[runs back in - literally]

Hey hey hey! Had a week off due to stitches in my leg [sulk] did a gentle 4 miles this morning with a friend in the beautiful sunshine.

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush usually, I do between 20 and 30km a week, walk and longer yoga sessions on my non-running days.

Back to running after a week off due to a tooth abscess. Great to be back out.

Welcome back @Iamblossom and @Doublethecuddles glad you’re both back running.

My ultra in May has been postponed to next year 😭 not sure what to do now as was a month into my training plan.

Good to see people back after injury.
Shame about your ultra paddingtonpaddington My half in April has been postponed until the summer but I’ve deferred my entry until next year.
Just a 5k tonight. Really struggling with my breathing/asthma. Hoping it settles soon as been bad for a while

Ah @UnaOfStormhold well done! I got my first local legend this week too. On a route near work which I do before I go home of an evening. I’ll never be fast, so local legend is a nice aim 😀

Shame about your ultra @PaddingtonPaddington. Do you know why? I have an OMM in May and hoping it’s not cancelled 🙈

Steady 10km after work today, felt tired but less clumsy than my last run! 350m elevation too 😀

Nice to see you @lamblossom and @Doublethecuddles - glad you are feeling better. Sorry to hear about your asthma, @IRun4Me

The thought of an ultramarathon is incredible - maybe next year! In awe of those who are doing them, or hoping to do them.

Still on the 5k's whilst my knee heals - and it's def improving. Off to pick up a new (second-hand) bike today as physio said cycling would help, too.

Lovely run in cold sunshine this morning, at least all the mud was frozen!
Glad to see injuries recovering.
Hope the asthma improves again soon @IRun4Me

Took a week off after my longest run of the year at the end of Feb Miles for mind. New start for March. Done 5 days of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred but had a run too this morning - still missing parkrun !

@PaddingtonPaddington May will be a lovely time of year, just do your own one. I’m contemplating an informal RTTS (I’m lucky enough to live near the route, that’s where I do my hills).

@IRun4Me hope you breathing clears up soon. Maybe you should tell the GP it’s not controlled and get bumped up the vaccine list.

As some one trying to organise two club races, there is so little guidance out yet from the England Athletics (and therefore Trail Association) I’m not surprised May races are being cancelled. I think summer will be staggered starts and COVID secure (with exception of maybe the big races)

16 trail today with gently 5 last night. Just 5.3 left before recovery week.

It is so disappointing when races are cancelled @PaddingtonPaddington. There are lots of ultras happening though so you might be able to just enter another? I just entered one in June and it had a lot of spaces left.

@50FootWave doing an ultra is a lot easier than a marathon in my view. You go a lot slower and walking is positively encouraged. I was terrified when I did my first 50k but it was a great experience. I’d really recommend. You don’t need to run massive miles in training either. I did my first off 1x run per week.

Easy run for me today but felt a bit knackered. Long run tomorrow so might spend the day just sitting around ‘resting’ as preparation Smile

PaddingtonPaddington · 06/03/2021 16:33

The ultra I was entering (50 miles) also had a 100mile option and as it was due early May before the relaxing of lockdown rules where people could stay in hotels they said it wasn’t safe to go ahead. I completely understand as people would travel and have nowhere to stay. I have found another race contender for June which is 90km (56miles) so looking into that one now 🙂

Half marathon this morning and was only 1 minute off my PB! Found a new route and got lost in the moment and the miles flew by. Doesn’t happen very often but lovely when it does.

After my 7.2 miles this morning xx

Spudlet · 07/03/2021 08:48

@PaddingtonPaddington That’s a bigger about your ultra. I was so hoping this year might be a bit more normal in terms of races at least Sad

I have a choice to make today - at a certain point of my route I can turn right to make it a nearly 8 mile run, which will be my longest ever, or turn left for my usual 5 miles. Don’t know what to do. I think I might wait to decide until I get there.

Amaura · 07/03/2021 11:01

5 ish today, which means I’ve managed my three weeks of 50 mile totals. I’m off for a nap.

Good luck today @Spudlet, it’s nice having runs where you have a choice

Great running @Amaura.
Look forward to hearing what you chose @Spudlet!
Very soggy steady run here, with a short sprint past the field where they were spreading muck!

Blimey @Amaura, your weeks are about what I do in a month Grin

I turned right! And due to a couple of footpath closures / ploughed up bits that I had to skirt around it ended up being a full 8 miles Shock. My foot is a bit unhappy now so I’m sitting with an ice pack on it, but feeling pretty proud of myself anyway Wink

Doublethecuddles · 07/03/2021 13:43

Lovely but hard 7 miles this morning, very hilly but can’t moan as I chose to run that route.

IRun4Me · 07/03/2021 16:38

Well done spudlet you should feel proud. Hope the foot feels better soon.
Thanks everyone. I have made an appointment. Did feel a bit easier today but I took it very steady and didn’t push myself.
Was an enjoyable run. I did decide to nip in to a wooded bit for a quick wee. Checked all around and was all clear. Suddenly this dog appeared and where I was about to go was a bloke with another dog. Thankfully I hadn’t taken down my leggings otherwise the poor bloke would be scarred for life. I said morning and ran off sharpish ConfusedGrin

Managed a nice trail run today - very hilly in places and very slippery in places, luckily not too many that were both! Took my new trail pack out for a trial spin, spent the first half of the run finding it frustratingly slow to get water out before I realised I hadn't pulled out the valve to the open position, very pleased with it after that!

Iamblossom · 07/03/2021 21:28

@IRun4Me oh no, ha ha poor you, hate getting caught short!!!

6 miles this morning, tired legs in second half, but was pleased with my time of 56 minutes 43 seconds, think that's my second fastest 10km, my fastest was bang on 56 minutes.

Should have a rest day tomorrow but I know I'll wake up and think, oh I have to walk dogs I might as well run at the same time...

Enjoyed my 80s running mixtape playlist on Spotify.
