New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

The strain running every day is not to be underestimated. It’s difficult to sustain without losing speed session or multiple long distances in a week.

Fun I enough a few years I felt wrecked running most days (was run commuting) but I never took it slow, normally be chasing a segment in the middle. Now I feel rubbish after a rest day so more frequently to 3-5km really slow runs just to keep mobility.

15 miles today. Was going to a virtual trail but we’ve had so much rain, so plan b is to try mid week when the ground should have started to freeze. That meant we did a slow flat road run to conserve some energy for that. Also 5km bimble last night.

First 10km for a few weeks this morning, really enjoyed and felt strong. Hit a PB at the 5km of 27minutes and 43 seconds, was really trying to break the 28 minute barrier and was delighted to hear strava announce it in my ears. Seems crisps and Sauvignon Blanc are good running fuel after all...

My birthday tomorrow (46 😱) and snow forecast so it will be a slob out on sofa day.

A nice 5 mile morning run with most of my local parkrun course in the middle section.

Some brilliant running on here today!

Can I add my (small) triumph - 11m today on roads as trails are so grim. Never normally run on roads and suddenly found I was 90s per mile faster than on trail last week and pace felt comfortable. I guess all those muddy miles with soaking wet feet have made me fitter Smile.

Happy birthday @lamblossom.

Well done on the PB and happy birthday for tomorrow @Iamblossom

10 miles today avoiding the heavy rain due. Snow forecast tomorrow.

Hi all, I'm a new runner, running 5k- 8k x4 a week since jan 1st. It wasn't a resolution. I just needed to let off steam on New Year's Day and it went from there. I'm loving it! It's definitely keeping me sane. Only prob is we had a week of snow predicted. How do people keep running in the snow?! Thanks

emummy · 06/02/2021 21:16

It can certainly be a challenge @AppleCrumbleForBreakfast! I use my trail shoes for grip, and sometimes wear Yaktrax for extra grip. You also have to accept you'll be a bit slower and if the snow is over an inch it can be quite tiring. I'm planning to wear my Yaktrax tomorrow as our snow is quite wet and slippy just now! I will also be wearing my waterproof socks.

Slow steady long run today, have attached some pictures which I think sun up how cold it was! Wore yaktrax, so felt safe but the old railway line path had so much churned up frozen mud on it that it was really uncomfortable to run on, so I had to run at the sides in the deeper snow. So I’m knackered! Good run though.

Happy birthday for tomorrow, @lamblossom, and well done on your new PB - that's incredible!

Was expecting snow this morning (south coast) so was out at 6.30am for my 10K, but it's clearly not happening here. Still, nice to have the run done and dusted!

Hope you're ok @Borisjohnsonshairbrush

Happy birthday lamblossom
Welcome applecrumbleforbreakfast
Lovely snow pictures emummy
No snow here. We were meant to have some but hasn’t materialised. Blustery run with a friend but lovely to chat.

Bleurgh, it’s sleeting and snowing here. It not really settling, so it’s also still muddy. And it’s windy so it feels like your face is being sandblasted as well. Delightful! Feeling quite tired today so didn’t do a long run, just a little over 5k. Now contemplating a nice hot bath. So looking forward to spring runs - on Friday it felt like spring was getting here, now we seem to be back in the depths of winter again!

Gorgeous pics @emummy, though tricky looking conditions! Happy birthday @Iamblossom and congrats on the PB, that’s a brilliant time.

Blowing through with snow and a freezing wind, but far more pleasant than running in torrential rain. Managed 6.5 miles, slower than usual as I stopped to speak to people, but it was great to be back out. I can’t face running in pouring rain!
Well done emummy pictures look lovely.
Happy Birthday lamblosson

Did my 10k! A little bit further in fact. The weather was kind, the liquid talc did the trick Grin and I did it in 1h20. I had to stop quite a few times but I ran the whole distance, no walking. Feeling very chuffed. Gives me a starting time that I can work on beating with more training.

Nice work everyone especially @dubyalass for the 10k.

A simple 5k here to town and back, was more sheltered from the wind than in the countryside!

Great work dubyalass!

I managed to get out for a run in daylight for once so headed out to the local parkrun route. It was a bit busy with lots of dogs to dodge and I ended up going through a lot of very cold puddles, but it was lovely to be back on trails again. Headed off too fast on the parkrun segment so the second half was a fight not to let the pace drop off too much, managed a new PB anyway which I was pleased with.

Thanks all! I am exhausted now but feeling quite pleased with myself!

Spudlet · 07/02/2021 17:40

I am completely exhausted this afternoon. My morning run was half the length it would usually be but it felt like a marathon! Then I’ve been dozing all afternoon in front of the fire. Not hard to work out why - it’s been one hell of a start to the year. But frustrating to have it catch up with me like this. Going to make this week a recovery week, shorten and slow down my runs, and just do gentle recovery yoga in between times.

Spudlet · 07/02/2021 17:41

Great job @dubyalass! Liquid talc is great 👍

Purpleraindeer · 07/02/2021 19:24

Star @dubyalass! Well done!
@Spudlet - if you’re feeling tired try to eat well today to help recovery. I thought that was only relevant for Olympians but tried it after a hard run last week and I felt so much better the next day.

4m for me. Wasn’t cold this am but swirly cold wind made it a bit unpleasant. Legs felt tired, but understandable as I ran 5 days this week which I’ve not done in years. It is now freezing here so fingers crossed for some snow tonight.
