New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

A short town run for protection from the wind and rain.

Pouring with icy rain, and so so so muddy on my 5km with the dogs today. Gave up trying to avoid the worst of the puddles and mud as doing so forces me to run with my foot at an angle which kills my ankle, so just got wet feet instead.

I quite like running in the rain, much prefer it to walking the dogs in the rain, at least with running I know I am going to get showered and changed when I get home so it doesn't matter how wet and dirty I get. Mack and cap on, no probs.

Ugh, soggy trek up to the shop in the next village for essential supplies (and Galaxy. It fell into my shopping basket). Then slogged home with it bouncing around in my hydration pack. I might have a look at Decathlon and see what their running backpacks are like.

I got home, saw I was at 2.8 miles, started doing laps of the garden, did one then thought sod it and went indoors... now coughing a bit as I think the damp has set my asthma off a little so will have to find my inhaler in a moment.

Muddy run. It was actually quite mild. Was only going to do a shortish one but kept going and went on a new track I’d not been before. It was really peaceful and muddy but not as bad as the well trod more local paths. Had that lovely post run buzz all day.

Managed 6miles today, I found out my grandad died today at 3am so the run was really difficult. I weirdly found myself running out of breath which I hardly do etc...

emummy · 04/02/2021 17:29

Sorry to hear that @Borisjohnsonshairbrush; well done for being able to run. Condolences to you & your family

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush I’m so sorry. I bet he was cheering you on all the way Flowers

PaddingtonPaddington · 04/02/2021 18:32

Good luck @dubyalass

Sorry to hear about your Granfather @Borisjohnsonshairbrush.

@Spudlet galaxy is definitely essential!

Easy 6 miles from me today managing to avoid the rain, although like @Iamblossom a cap on to keep the rain out of your face works wonders.

Sorry to hear that @Borisjohnsonshairbrush it’s natural for the emotions to impact you physically.

Three mid week gentle runs to add. Been good with cross training, less good about physio exercises 😳

So sorry to hear your news about your grandad Borisjohnsonshairbrush My thoughts are with you and your family

UnaOfStormhold · 05/02/2021 08:47

Sorry about your granddad Borisjohnsonshairbrush, I'm sure he would have been delighted that you got out for a run and were thinking of him cheering you on.

I managed a nice long run yesterday which I definitely needed after a stressful day - did the NRC 90 minute run which was great as towards the end the coach was encouraging me to focus on breath and technique which was really timely as I was definitely getting into that end-of-run not really picking up my feet phase and it did make it easier when I worked on better technique.

My running club's strava challenge this month is a 2.1k per day run streak with a point for every day up to 21 points. I'm a bit torn - I'd like to give it a go but am not sure running every day is going to be good for me (I'm still in my first year of running and generally do 3-4 times a week). I can feel my left leg is a bit tight after yesterday's run so I don't want to make it worse. But then it's only 2.1k and I do think getting out the house and getting some daylight even for just 15mins every day would actually do me a world of good.

Spudlet I went to pick up some tablets at the pharmacy during one of my runs this week and they rattled all the way home - at least I knew I hadn't dropped them! I've been investigating the Decathlon run bags too - I'm not a huge fan of having things round my waist when running so having a backpack seems like a better option for longer runs.

Thinking of you @Borisjohnsonshairbrush, was sorry to hear your sad news.

5km for me, but I'm off my game big time. Home schooling/working is really beginning to mess with my energy levels!

Thank you guys. No running today for me. House work and keeping busy xxx

Annoy · 05/02/2021 16:18

No runs for me over the last few days, eaten lots of crap though! I’m coming to the end of my period, so need to stop using that as an excuse to be a slob!

Hopefully this weekend will see more action from me!

IRun4Me · 05/02/2021 18:22

Una running every day can be nice and it is possible to stay injury free as long as you don’t push yourself. But also it can be hard and become a chore. Perhaps swap a couple of runs a week for a walk?? Or just cheer the others on from the virtual sidelines.
Evening post run work. Couldn’t quite get in to my stride tonight. I think I was too focused on the post run glass of red Grin

Managed to get out in the sunshine today and it was lovely. Poured with rain about 5mins after I got back so I won the weather lottery today!Smile

I’ve got a decathlon running pack @Spudlet I love it. It was really cheap compared to some of the ones out there.

I can’t remember who said something re a virtual challenge. I signed up for a virtual 50k over a weekend next weekend. Am a bit scared now. But I guess it is a good motivator. I couldn’t handle running daily - I’m just teetering on my limit with 4x per week.

I couldn't handle the washing for running every day.

7km for me today. Enjoyable because of sunny weather.
@Annoy Ive also been eating rubbish.

I have belatedly realised that doing long runs (like the 8.5 miler I did on Thursday) isn't really compatible with doing a run streak! I did fit in a run with my son which covered the required distance but I am a bit sore and suspect rest would have been better for me. I think I should probably bow out gracefully and maybe try another time when I can fit in lots of shorter runs.

And oh yes to the laundry - with two of us being active every day plus a child getting through a ridiculous amount of clothes it is getting excessive!

WhatILoved · 06/02/2021 07:10

Yeah sometimes best to acknowledge you can't do everything all the time. If you get more joy from the less frequent longer ones then keep to that.

emummy · 06/02/2021 08:59

1.5 mile repeats this morning and it was not fun. The amber snow warning delivered overnight so we have 2 inches of very wet snow, with lots of cold puddles under the snow. My feet are soaked & I can’t feel my toes. The decision to wear normal socks instead of waterproof ones was not the best! I am really going to enjoy my hot shower!

Yuck! My kids are disappointed with no snow here. Not even any rain yet as was predicted so an unexpected 4K for me doing laps of park with kids on bikes.
