New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

Re strength work, I do v similar to @emummy.

Joe Wicks does a good 10 minutes lower body that I do on non-run days and I add weights. He also does a really good 12 minutes running on the spot/core session, where I swap out the running for arms with weights.

I also find skipping really keeps me light on my feet and is a great for a quick cardio hit, if that helps, @Borisjohnsonshairbrush? I take it to the park with DS and do 5 x 50 reps for example whilst he's bombing about.

Anyway, a 7km this morn as the sun came up - really noticing the birdsong at the moment, so lovely.

Intervals for me this morning, nice & frosty here. I wasn’t expecting much, not sleeping too well this week and not feeling too confident but actually it went really well.
I’m starting a half marathon training plan - no idea if there’s going to be a race at the end but never mind!

@emummy ooooo, can I ask which plan, please?

I'm like to build up to this.....

emummy · 26/01/2021 10:35

It’s a pb plan from Women’s Running magazine in November, so it’s a bit of a stretch for me! In the past I’ve used plans from Paula Radcliffe’s book, a Bupa one and some from Runners World online.

My favoured running pants have turned on me, they spent the whole of today’s run going to places where no pants should go Blush Consequently I took the shortcut home and will be reassessing my underwear choices before next time. I feel betrayed 😑

Thanks, @emummy

@Spudlet that made me laugh, but of course I am very, very sorry!

I hate it when favourite running clothing turns against you!!!

Managed a run tonight! 4.5 miles as I had so much to do, the run was compulsory though, there was a birthday in our department (radiology, hence my fear of slippy ice) and we had dominoes!! Had to jog off 3 slices! X 752.2

PaddingtonPaddington · 26/01/2021 20:30

@Spudlet you need some runderwear they are fab.

Intervals last night and a progressive run this evening.

@PaddingtonPaddington I’ve heard they’re great! Can’t justify spending that much though, unfortunately. I need a cut price version thereof - has anyone tried the Decathlon ones? I like their other kit.

emummy · 27/01/2021 09:13

I love Runderwear, but also have some generic ones I got from Amazon which have been great. Have a try of the Decathlon ones @Spudlet, as you say, the rest of their stuff is good. Hope you get sorted, it’s no fun when your underwear gangs up on you!

Really struggling with energy levels but got out for a short one with the dog and felt better for it.

Grin @Spudlet! I hope you’ve given your underwear a good talking to and that it has promised to behave better in future!!

Good work @emummy and @PaddingtonPaddington for intervals/progression runs. I had a progression run in my plan yesterday and it was impossible as it was a total ice rink so I mostly slithered around like bambi. In retrospect wearing road shoes and running on quiet country roads was a mistake as it was sheets of ice. Anyway - I did 8miles, pace was ok and I didn’t break an ankle so I’m calling that a win Smile

I also do strength work and HIIT in addition to running as I enjoy it. I’m not sure it really enhances running but it must be good to exercise some different muscles and I’d like to think it helps prevent injury but I know most serious runners would disagree.

3 good runs recently

I don’t wear underwear @Spudlet 🙈 Just some nice quality Salomon leggings.

Just under 3 miles after work today. So glad the ice/snow has gone! It’s bad enough on the slippy wet limestone around here!

I also did a Pamela Reif abs workout yesterday morning and a hangboard session for climbing strength as the walls aren’t open atm

@annoy If it hadn’t have been so cold, I’d have sucked into a cover crop and taken the damn things off. Would have meant removing everything though, so nooooooo 🥶 And if I’d bumped into the gamekeeper I’d never have lived it down Blush

Work overload this week so a couple of short ones. Just taking it as a bonus recovery week.

Got real life physio booked for Monday.

A rapid change in the weather, was really mild out this morning and all the weekends snow, slush and ice melted away apart from the snowmen lumps

Looks lovely @CalmConfident.
Still frosty here, more snow forecast today but we’ll see. Nice easy run through the countryside today, including giving a wee wave to the highland coos and their adorable calves.

Certainly warmer this morning! Bit of a plod, couldn't quite find a rhythm, but still happy to be out and another 4 miles done.

Purpleraindeer · 28/01/2021 09:24

Warm here too. And very wet underfoot. My trainers got a lovely wash in some deep puddles! Felt very tired. Rest day tomorrow Smile

First run after a rest week, thigh and ankle held up well, felt good to be out again, but stopped after 5km and walked last km to car, didn't want to push it today.

Very muddy.
