New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

9km between Monday's and yesterdays runs. Yesterday I just couldn't muster the stamina to keep on going past 5km so I gave up and walked the rest of the way home. Got my period today, which explains it. Going to have a rest for a few days and try again on Sunday when I should be feeling better.

Another shorter one today - my period is due next week and I always feel low on energy at this point of my cycle. Kept up a fairly good pace but I just couldn’t muster the enthusiasm for the final half mile to make a full 5k Blush

It hadn't really occurred to me that my cycle would affect my energy levels like that. How have I got to 43 and not made the connection??

PaddingtonPaddington · 28/01/2021 18:30

Seems to be quite a few on the thread not feeling it today but I always try and see the positive that aleast you got out and did it. Mine felt like a hard slog, was going to do 2 loops but thought if I ran past the house I was likely to go inside so made a detour half way and ran one bigger loop instead. Rest day tomorrow.

@dubyalass I’m 38 and I hadn’t either until I listened to a women’s running podcast with an athlete who’d ended up with amenorrhea and osteoporosis - Jess Piasecki I think, at the end of last year. I use the FitrWoman app now which is great for tracking and picking up on patterns.

In other news (because I know you will all be agog) I tried some different pants (the most gargantuan pair I own, seriously, a family of four could camp in them) and I am pleased to report that they remained in their proper place 👍

Annoy · 28/01/2021 20:36

Great news @Spudlet

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 28/01/2021 23:06

An early morning dash, lovely with the big full wolf moon still in the sky.

@Spudlet seriously happy for you - it's the little (or not so little) things that make a difference these days.

Me too, @CalmConfident - Friday is the day I try and run 5km as fast as I can and then try not to puke. Success!

Much lighter this morn, at 6.45am, I could actually see the sea, not just hear it! Lovely.

Horrendous 3 1/2 miles in wind and rain this morning.

Spudlet glad you got the underwear sorted.

Just checked back and realised how far behind I was with mileage updates, just under 2 weeks in which time I've managed 36 miles. I have to say it isn't much fun running in the dark and cold and wet, but I am really proud of myself for keeping going.

Sorry, ignore that one, crosspost and maths failure! With doublethecuddles' mileage that brings us to:

6km with my friend this morning.

That’s the best thing about morning runs! The stars and moon still being out but the birds going crazy 😀
Annoy · 29/01/2021 19:02

I am looking forward to morning runs in the daylight though!

Run after work today, steady 4.7 miles tup the local hill... 250m of elevation 😀

I’m getting really frustrated as if I do anything more than 5km I get a niggle in the bottom of my foot and around my ankle. I think its plantar faciliitis, so doing lots of stretching but to no avail

Littleindiangirl · 29/01/2021 19:06

For those of you that run early in the morning what do you eat if anything? I am so nervous that I won't have energy.

Annoy · 29/01/2021 20:20

I don’t eat anything, but I never run more than 5km usually in the morning before work.

If I intend to run longer then I’ll eat a banana beforehand, but I never run more than 12km in this.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 29/01/2021 20:23

If I run at 5 or 6am I drink pre-workout but strictly no caffeine for the rest if the day.. a good playlist and warm up and you will soon be pumping @Littleindiangirl. I then get in and have an Epsom salt bath to sooth my muscles (based on ruuning for at least 30mins)

I then have breakfast around 9am one hour after I've got to work. I'm doing 16:8 fasting and dont feel hungry for a while after a run.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 29/01/2021 20:26

@Littleindiangirl it's all completely different for each individual and goals etc. I get v v bad indigestion if I run before 2hrs of eating. You will find what works for you xx

CalmConfident · 29/01/2021 21:15

I always run on an empty stomach on the morning. I do 16:8 some of the time as well.

@Annoy it was earlier than I usually run as had a 8am work meeting, it was great - will be setting the alarm clock early again !

emummy · 29/01/2021 21:15

I usually get up early enough to to eat breakfast, usually a bowl of granola & yoghurt. I need about 40 minutes after then I can run ok.

Iamblossom · 30/01/2021 08:30

I have a strong black coffee and a banana before any run. Never eat within 2 hours or it would be repeating on me the whole way round.

schoolcook · 30/01/2021 10:05

I eat two medjool dates before a 5K or 3/4 before a 10K.

I find that fuels me fit ages so I can shower and get to work before I need breakfast.

schoolcook · 30/01/2021 10:07

*for ages not fit !
