New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

A wet yet fast 10k tonight. Loved it! Music blasting and pretended I was in a music video Haha

Fantastic, @Borisjohnsonshairbrush, this made me laugh!

A gusty 7km for me this morning, but missed the rain which is now lashing down. Was slow and it was a bit of an effort after Sunday's 10km, but glad I pushed through and did it.

That sounds like fun @Borisjohnsonshairbrush!
Heavy frost overnight here again but luckily not too slippy, more crunchy underfoot. So nice steady run. Work has started a step challenge so my wee team is very motivated to beat the other team in out department!

10km today, thigh a bit twingy but manageable. Thinks its just there for ever now. Run was hard, I clearly need to drink a bottle of prosecco the night before each run. Cos that's really healthy right? 😂

Had some company today! He was not very impressed by my post-run dancing to Bon Jovi though. Equally, I was not very impressed by the flooded bit which was not flooded yesterday being flooded again today, or by my running buddy running between my legs while I was running along the edge of said flood 🙈

My buddy is an OAP (13.5 years old!) so I kept it short and slow today, plenty of walking when he needed to be on the lead so he wasn’t being towed along.

4k this morning, running right into the storm but glad I got out. Planning a longer one on Thurs when the weather's better.

Is anyone else doing the CRUK Virtual Winter Run on 7th Feb? It's 10k and I thought I may struggle to do that distance by then but I found 4k fairly easy this morning - something I never thought I'd say!

Whoops, forgot to add the total:

Lots of good running over the last few days.
I adjusted my route today as felt knackered so couldn’t do the 5m I was planning. My revised route took me through 2 massive floods one of which was up to my knees. The water was so cold my feet were numb for the next few mins. Probably won’t do that route again for a few weeks!

Intervals yesterday and a windy progressive run today.

Still struggling with asthma (blaming the stormy weather). So thoughts of returning to speed work have been put on hold

9 miles to add

IRun4Me · 20/01/2021 08:37

spudlet I love your running buddy. Mine is younger at 6. I’m missing running with him at the moment- 2 more days I’ll be back out.
Amaura my asthma is playing up at the moment. I didn’t know if it was stress and not being able to get out. But might be the weather aswell.
I had planned to do core work during my enforced rest but actually I’ve done bugger all. It’s been quite nice being lazy. And obviously I’ve spent the time wisely by buying new leggings.

Doublethecuddles · 20/01/2021 12:56

A run yesterday in freezing fog, which I found very difficult to breath in and sent my heart rate rocketing. Anybody else struggle to breath in freezing fog or very cold weather?
A run before the rain today, where I got slightly damp.

I find running in the cold fine at the time, but afterwards I tend to cough quite a bit. I often need a puff on my inhaler - it’s about the only time I have to use it.

That said I’ve been having the odd asthma-y moment here and there lately. I think it’s spending too much time in the house with the windows shut. Too flipping cold for anything else though!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/01/2021 16:11

A wet 5miles last night and a 6miler at 6am this morning....of and I did a vicar of dibley and fell into a puddle....lovely xx

Hi. Would you mind if i joined in? I usually try to run 2x 5km during the week and one 10km ish on the weekend but I’ve totally lacked motivation recently due to the shitty weather and it being dark when i leave for work in the morning and come home later on. It’s depressing!

My last run was on Saturday 🙈 7km

A work colleague today and asked if i fancied a weekly after work run with her, so we’ll be starting next week. That should help my motivation 😀

50FootWave · 21/01/2021 08:09

Hello @Annoy, I'm new here too.

@Doublethecuddles I don't experience that in the cold but I think it's quite common. Not 100% sure though...

I did a decent 5km this morning and knocked almost a minute off my usual time. Felt like I was going to puke, but it's the only way I'm going to get faster!

Back to 7km tomorrow, then 10km on Sunday....lovely and gusty here today, sea looked glorious this morning.

emummy · 21/01/2021 08:51

Welcome @Annoy! Good luck with running with your friend, that should help with motivation, which is definitely hard to come by in January!
@Doublethecuddles sometimes I have a tight chest on very cold days. I find running with a buff up over my nose & mouth helps at the start.
Well done on your speedy 5k @50FootWave!
It’s totally horrible here today. I have been snowed on, rained on, blasted with wind and nearly fallen on ice. Ran 1 mile on very wet grass because the path was too icy. I am wet, cold and a touch grumpy! Off for a hot shower.

Just been for a slippy slushy run. Forgot to press start on my sense and I didn't notice until around 2 miles in ffs.
I fucking hate the fucking snow .

Sun actually came out today but I ran with my lab so needed to go somewhere he could be off lead and it was sooooo muddy and flooded.

Thigh twingy too {sadface] Going to have to seriously consider having a week off running next week....

6km today. Welcome Annoy, love the user name...

We had sunshine here today!! Shock it freaked me out - I’d forgotten what it looked like.

Did hill reps. Had to pass 2 cyclists going up the hill and then as I didn’t want to look like I was slowing down I sprinted off and was nearly sick at the top of the hill. I told DH this and he asked why I nearly made myself sick so that 2 strangers wouldn’t think I had slowed down. I think he was right. I need to have a word with myself Grin

Hope the twinge goes away @lambblossom

Spudlet · 21/01/2021 17:09

The headwind was awful here today, and as I had ddog with me I was stuck doing laps up and down one section of unflooded path where he can be safely off the lead so I had to keep turning back into it. Did not enjoy it, but perversely made quite good time when the various stoppages to make sure ddog hadn’t wandered off on his own and that he knew where I was were stripped out by Strava (he’s deaf, so I have to make sure he has line of sight and if necessary, just sprint after him and catch him Grin)

Still, another 5k done and dusted.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 21/01/2021 17:28

Haha I hate running past others on a hill as I think I'm.beibg judged!

50FootWave · 22/01/2021 09:05

7ish km for me this morning - some unexpected icy patches so a bit slow, but a lovely morning.

dubyalass · 22/01/2021 13:40

8km this morning! I stopped to catch my breath a lot, but I ran almost all of it, bar a short walk where there were lots of people.

A few questions - I almost always need the loo as soon as I start out, even if I've been just before I set off. Does anyone else get this and is there anything I can do about it? I don't want to not drink anything, because I am bad enough as it is at staying hydrated.

Also, what do you all do about chafing? I find my toes are rubbing a bit; do you use talc? What kind of socks do you wear? There may have been some slight buttock chafing too - any suggestions?

Final one, and apologies in advance for the graphic nature of this question: does anyone else get a sort of spasm in their bum after they've finished their run? I get a sort of cramp in my back passage occasionally; it goes if I walk around for a while but it's quite uncomfortable.
