New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

Still on track doing RED January. It’s actually so needed at the moment with everything going on. That time out running is my saviour.
Managed to force the teenager out on a run. He moaned the whole way round and I didn’t even make him go far

Thanks for all the tips I really appreciate them

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/01/2021 21:49

Hello can I join? Been running on and off 13 years. I do around 50k pw whenwhen the gyms are shur like now. On 2x 10k this week so far. With the ice being around its stressed me out. My tip is every time its thawed go out and run like tomorrow will be too icey, it really helps my mindset and last Thursday I did 9miles. I sometimes drink pre-workout if my energy is crap and I always run with music xx

50FootWave · 13/01/2021 09:14

@PaddingtonPaddington I wear Brooks, too, find them really comfortable.

Hello @Borisjohnsonshairbrush and anyone else who's new!

Just my usual 4.04 miles this morning, as didn't have much time. Tomomorrow will be a fast 5km, then Sat I am planning my first 10km in a billion years....

Hi all. Very much a beginner here and plagued with knee niggles from a very long-term injury/grumble, which I just sort of live with it's been so long. Also a newer slightly grumbly hip.

I have a pair of quite light Merrell trail-running shoes, which are comfortable, but I wonder if I could do with more cushioning. However, I like to try to run on the dedicated running track in the park, which at the mo is a bit muddy, alternating with running on the grass alongside it, which is obviously rough and uneven. If I go for something like Hokas, are they TOO cushioned for that kind of surface?

emummy · 13/01/2021 11:00

Hokas have trail shoes I think - is it Speedgoats they’re called? Not sure how cushioned they are. And welcome!

IntermittentParps · 13/01/2021 11:48

Thank you!
The website says they're cushioned. Are they a bit hardcore though? I'm only talking about muddy(ish) paths in the park, not fell running or anything… Grin

emummy · 13/01/2021 12:11

Ah but you start in the park and before you know it you’re sprinting up Snowdon! It’s up to you really but I have found that a good grippy pair of trail shoes just gives me so much more confidence off road, and sometimes I’ll use mine out on walks with the family too.

Good run along the beach.
Just ordered a running diary, am going to try very hard to record all my runs.
Watching Nicola Sturgeon hoping that she won’t reduce the distance we can travel to exercise. At the moment I have a 4 mile drive to the beach.

I have Saucony Trails and I love them for road and off road.

Just did second 10km of the week, thigh still niggly, but will stretch it out loads and do a 5/6km of Friday or Saturday.

Ah but you start in the park and before you know it you’re sprinting up Snowdon! Grin You have more confidence in me (and my knees) than I do.

Iamblossom, thank you, they look great.

50FootWave · 14/01/2021 07:45

Speedy (for me anyway) 5k in the spooky fog this morning.

Some shorter mid week runs. I’m in a recovery week which is handy as I’ve not really had any spare time

Two pretty feeble runs so far this week thanks to my knees doing something painful... More like hobbles, really Grin

Also really wet and miserable here at the moment but hey ho, any thing's better than nothing I suppose

A wet miserable morning here too but it means most of the ice is gone.

I’m back on the bench. One week back in work and already off self isolating. Feeling very frustrated especially as I was doing RED January and had achieved the first 13 days.
Might try and run up and down the driveway but it’s not quite the same. Oh well best go and make a chart to count down the days.

50FootWave · 14/01/2021 15:39

Oh @IRun4Me, no!!!!!

Have you got a skipping rope? Easy to do on the drive and great for building up stamina and balance.

Not the same, I know....

WhatILoved · 14/01/2021 16:21

Almost 5k but then nose started bleeding
So stopped Blush

Spudlet · 14/01/2021 16:48

@IRun4Me Nooooo! Nightmare Sad

A very wet and soggy 3 miles today - frustrating as several paths were underwater and others were stupidly slippery, so there was a lot of walking and picking my way around the worst of it. I normally drive myself to the woods at this time of year where it’s better drained, but I don’t suppose I can at the moment so I’m just going to have to keep splashing through. Hopefully it will dry up at some point...!

This was the worst bit - the path is to the left of the line of the ditch. The ditch must be a good four feet deep and probably six feet wide at the top, and it’s full to the brim as you can see...!

@IRun4Me oh no! How annoying.

Sleet, cold and dark run. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

50FootWave · 14/01/2021 19:59

Shock @Spudlet

@WhatILoved hope you're ok.

Doublethecuddles · 15/01/2021 13:49

A faster 5 miles this morning.
Spudlet hats off to you, I am a wimp going through water, I hate getting my feet wet!

369 miles

Spudlet · 15/01/2021 14:34

@Doublethecuddles I just admit I didn’t go through that lot! I waded in but it was up to my ankles within a step or two and I couldn’t remember how much the ground dipped away, so I backtracked and hopped over the ditch and went up the edge of the field. That ditch must be about 4 feet deep and heading for size feet across at the top, and it slopes so normally flows really quite quickly - so there was a lot of water for it to flood like that (assuming the outflow pipe hasn’t just blocked of course). I don’t mind getting my feet a bit wet but I do draw the line at my knees Shock

Purpleraindeer · 15/01/2021 18:24

@Spudlet it is exactly like that round near me too. I did a bit of wading today

Not posted all week. Have been out 3x - some intervals, nice slow (bit boring) run and 6 miles on the trail today.

Had the genius idea of wearing my merino ski base layer under my running jacket and I was warm but not sweaty Smile
