New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

5k in freezing fog. Left 2 days this time and felt better for it.

Good news @Spudlet.

welcome @Toomanynotes good luck with the ultra training.

Hit the trails as sheet ice didn’t seem appealing on the roads this morning. Ended up with 2 wet feet but quite enjoyable.

There is so much running on here despite the twin problems of home school and it being balticly freezing. We’re a tough bunch obviously!

8m yesterday and 11 today for me. Both freezing. Had icicles on my hair today when I finished and my shoe laces froze.

emummy · 10/01/2021 10:54

That does sound cold @Purpleraindeer!
Seriously icy run this morning. It rained last nice, cleared a lot of the snow but then the rain has frozen. My street seemed ok so I headed off with optimism to run along to the castle and through the woods. It was not ok. Even the woodland paths were icy! Still, didn’t fall, and it was fun in a weird scary way!

5 miles done today. An annoying run, I got DH to drop me off just on the far side of our village and the footpath was awful, completely unmarked, overgrown, had to jump a ditch because there was no bridge and ended up wading through some rough ground to get back to the road which I did not want to run on 😤 Then the next bit was flooded! And I was too cold, then I got too hot and kept having to take hats and gloves on and off, and my touchscreen gloves weren’t working so I couldn’t check the map and just generally ugh. However. That’s another five miles on the books and a path ticked off my list (unfortunately, it would be a great little route if only it were clear). Now time for a hot bath, as my legs have gone numb!

That does sound annoying @Spudlet maybe it will be better when spring comes?

7 miler this morning, had a bit of blue sky to go with the frost. Did lose energy at the 4 miler mark, but it’s recovery week next for me

Swings and roundabouts really, the floods should subside but the nettles will grow again...! I do prefer spring and autumn running generally though. I forgot the best bit though about today - my knee didn’t complain! So now just waiting to see which bit starts complaining next, but generally very happy to currently have a non-niggly leg 👍

Already got itchy feet after 2 days off to rest my thigh and back. Had a massage yesterday, tbh it does help, but no more than stretching doing yoga so not sure I'll bother again, and save myself £70.

Going out for a 5km tomorrow I think, to road test my new airpods 😁. I run to pumping music when I run alone, but others have said they listen to podcasts, not sure that would be right for me tbh...

dubyalass · 10/01/2021 21:43

Managed 4.8k in the cold on Thursday, then a 13k walk yesterday rather than a run. It’s warmer here tomorrow so planning to run into town and try to do 6k, maybe a bit more if I can. I’ve just been diagnosed with very low ferritin and Vit D so it’s no wonder I’ve been struggling to make much progress. Hoping things will improve now I’m on some tablets.

Hi runners, I started running in September and do two or three (depending on weather I'm scared to run on ice at the mo as go very early in morning and don't want to slip in the dark!!) 5-6ks a week. Would love some tips from you all on how to increase the distance as I'm kinda stuck at 6.... will it just get easier the more I run? Have to say I do enjoy it more than I thought I would. Only time I truly get to myself and my thoughts!

Spudlet · 11/01/2021 08:32

Hello, @WhatILoved! Running is my main ‘me’ time as well, I do think I’d go a bit bonkers without it, especially now...

When I wanted to step up from 5k to 10k I used a Bupa training plan - there are quite a few training plans out there online to take your distance up, so it’s worth googling to see which one fits best with the time that you have available. Women’s Running often do them, I think Jeff Galloway does too. I was up to 10k last summer but since then I’ve had a few niggles here and there to contend with, so I’ll be looking for a training plan to step the distance up as well come spring.

Morning, all - some wild sounding runs over the weekend! Hello to new joiners.

I had a really nicely paced 4 miles this morning - no ice to battle with!

Aiming for 5 (2 short, 2 mid, one long) runs this week, and I'm also going to challenge myself to a 10km on Saturday...had very low energy last week (prob due to home schooling), so want to get back on it this week and push myself. Thanks for those links, @Spudlet.

After years of yo-yo dieting I finally managed to lose 3 stone between August and December last year, and now I have 'just' one more stone go - running should help!!

Enjoyed a 10k at lunchtime today, I do think my pain areas will prevent me running much further than this kind of distance tbh, but I am happy with that. Airpods were awesome 😁

@50FootWave that's a amazing weigh tloss well bloody done, impressive.

50FootWave · 11/01/2021 14:17

Why thank you, lamblossom! Should've done it years ago, but hey - got there eventually! Well, when this last stone has gone I will!

Well done on the 10km, though sorry about the pain. I'd love to be able to run that far!

dubyalass · 11/01/2021 18:09

Managed 5.4km this morning, though I could have done without the headwind on the way home - not the easiest! I was very slow but hey, I did it.

PaddingtonPaddington · 11/01/2021 19:16

Welcome @WhatILoved. If you do any miles just add them to the group running total in bold to your post.

Did a 6km trail run today in the boiling heat! I hate running in the heat but need to try to aclimatise to it.

It was in local woods though, and a nice out and back along a cool trail that people have decorated with various characters. There's a Smurfs Corner, a My Little Pony Village, a Simpsons patch and a Trolls part and then at the end a little village carved out of logs. Keeps it interesting! I keep meaning to take my DDs there and set some of their old My Little Ponies loose in the wild.

Finished the day with fish and chips on the beach - water was so warm we all had a good paddle/swim, including DDogs. Hadn't brought a change of clothes so had to drive home soaking wet. Wine time now.

@Toomanynotes your day sounds so wonderful and so far removed from any reality I can imagine right now, here in the cold, dark, wet, locked-down UK!

emummy · 12/01/2021 13:12

That sounds like a brilliant day @Toomanynotes.
Welcome @WhatILoved! I increased my distance by just adding 0.5k to my long run every 2 weeks.

Another stunning 5 mile run along the beach.

A steady 5k for me today - didn’t stop to take pictures, just to tippy-toe around the real quagmire bits. I even came home with relatively dry feet!

Put a toe through my trainers today so the new ones will be going on for the next run (Brooks Ghost 13).

10k run hard today
