New thread needed! All runners welcome, whatever your pace or distance.
Cold icy run for me this morning, couple of exciting sliding episodes! Not a fan of the ice...

Did a 6.58 mile run.

Was very slippy so took it very slow to avoid broken limbs! I'm doing RED January with run/walk every day to keep motivated

Thanks @Amaura. My knee doesn’t hurt when not running and I’ve never had knee problems before. It’s the outside of my left knee and worse going down hill. Any ideas?

Amaura · 02/01/2021 19:49

Honestly could be a number of things, this article explains it well www.verywellfit.com/knee-pain-when-running-4134724

Key thing is why you have it, both my runners knee and shin splints we’re ultimately due to weak glutes so you don’t want to just treat the symptoms. However seeing a physio in lockdown is difficult. Some do virtual sessions which should at least start doing an initial calm down.

Benjispruce2 · 02/01/2021 20:10

Thanks so much @Amaura. I’m guessing it’s something to do with out of condition quads. Will try some strength training in between runs.

UnaOfStormhold · 03/01/2021 08:41

I'm also starting to get a few knee niggles, so I'm planning to ease back on mileage a bit and do some strength work so they don't get any worse. Frustrating when I want to press on with HM training but definitely not worth letting it develop into a problem!

Well. I was supposed to run 10k with my friend this morning but after 12k yesterday my ankle feels achy and my usually bad lower back is complaining ALOT so had a lie in instead 😊.

Will walk dog and do a 5k tomorrow. As PP have said if I do a proper damage and then can't run at all I'll be really annoyed.

emummy · 03/01/2021 10:11

Quite right @Iamblossom, good choice I think.
I had to abandon plan A and plan B for my run this morning. It snowed here overnight and then it froze so everywhere is coated in an inch think layer of ice. Didn’t fancy driving on it so strapped on my yak traks and trotted slowly to the woods. Did some running in the woods and some on roads, stayed on my feet but decided not to go for a longer run but quit while I was ahead!

Can I please join? Have been running for 6 years and mainly run along the beach. I live on the East Coast of Scotland. Usually run 3 times a week.
Lovely run this morning through the frost and snow.

Is it miles per month to over the year?

7.4 miles

IRun4Me · 03/01/2021 11:09

Damp grey run yesterday and nice sunny run today.
Now to wash the muddy dog.

Welcome @Doublethecuddles! I am further up the coast in Aberdeenshire. The numbers are the total for everyone that month, so if you do a run you can just add it to the previous number. Glad you enjoyed your wintry run this morning!

I might not be further up from you - sorry, I read east coast as East Lothian!

12 miles this morning, broke my vest clip, forgot to put my watch on, slightly twisted off the lid from my drink so ended up with a wet boob and stomach (so stripped at the top of hill as was too cold to have wet against skin, luckily it was starting to slushy rain so out my rain coat on without getting too hot).

On the plus side, I did the run and my husband ran out with my phone as I left (drive to the start) so could use my phone to record it.

Very well trained husband there

Doublethecuddles · 03/01/2021 17:37

Thank you for the welcome emummy. I am from Fife so down the coast from you.
Not very technical, how do you get bold to tag someone?

50FootWave · 03/01/2021 18:19

Excellent running and distances, folks!

Rest day for me (though I did swim in the sea, a whole other obsession) - cold but lovely on my sore muscles!

Tomorrow is a fast as I can 5km - under 35 mins is my target.

Purpleraindeer · 03/01/2021 18:26

Happy new year everyone. There has been so much running on here!

Spudlet - your muddy photo looks like every trail round here. It is a tough time of year for trail running. This time last year I did a trail marathon and it was such hard work through calf deep mud.

Nice slow plod through woods yesterday and then my first ever hills session today. Omg. Was hard. I feel properly tired still. Sore legs tomorrow I expect.

@Doublethecuddles if you type ‘@‘ and the first couple of letters of a username a wee list of suggestions pops up. Or just type the whole name yourself.
@50FootWave that was brave! I can’t imagine how cold it must have been!

OP posts:
50FootWave · 04/01/2021 09:05

@emummy it was 8 degrees celsius - the less said about that the better!

Lovely sounding (and looking runs) everyone, and hello to new folk.

Managed an early and well-paced 5.51km/3.42 miles this morning.

Now lashings of coffee and off to work!

Iamblossom · 04/01/2021 09:57

5km this morning, in 28 minutes 29 seconds, I'm getting faster. 😊

Also collecting some persistent aches and pains though.... Right quad is complaining. Might stick at 3 x 5kms this week with a rest day in between, rather than anything longer. And do yoga on the non-run days.

I love swimming and alternate running with swimming when pools are open, but there is no way on this earth you would get me in the sea.... In the summer in this country never mind the depths of January!!!

50FootWave · 04/01/2021 10:25

lamblossom owch - hope you feel ok, but WOW that's a fast run!

Re swimming, I know, I know, it's a painful obsession!

Doublethecuddles · 04/01/2021 14:11

Lovely run along the beach today, cold and crisp. 5 miles

12.4 miles

Benjispruce2 · 04/01/2021 16:41

My 4th 5k and just under 32min!!! Super happy not just with being a bit quicker it because my knee wasn’t sore!
Not sure what’s happening with miles but I’ll add the last poster’s 5 miles too.

Is anyone a bit nervous of running in the current icy conditions? I’ve run for years but have noticed I’m much more nervous of this as I get older (and Covid worries as don’t want a break in the current climate).
Virtually nothing stops me getting out and running but it did today.

Benjispruce2 · 04/01/2021 17:05

Luckily no ice encountered yet.
