New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

Purple the work sounds so impossible!! I agree with their logic on focusing just on single leg exercises though, my physio was always saying that to me. She hated all the dynamic exercises where you do arms and core alongside legs whilst squatting or lunging etc. She said it was much easier to get injuries as harder to focus on good form for everything, and I kmow she’s a physio so she would say that, but she was a sports physio who always tried to get me to work out as much as I could.

This morning I did cx worx and my core feels bruised now! Sadly I broke my ancient bb band so need to order a new one now. I should probably do something like that more rather than focus on cardio. I don’t know why but even if it’s hard at the time I never feel like I’ve done a workout if it’s a core one compared to if I do cardio.

yumyumpoppycat · 10/08/2020 13:09

Ha ha purple def no radical dressing from me - I am a total frump!

Reastie did you enjoy cxworks? Interesting about benefits of single leg exercises wrt form - makes sense really.

I took my 9 year old for a "run" this morning - we downloaded c25k. At first she was sprinting ahead but quickly struggled - we completed it, but I am not holding my breath for this being an ongoing activity - fingers crossed she surprises me Wink

WhatILoved · 10/08/2020 21:36

Careful of the knees reastie!

Yes I don't see why you can't do 3 in a row. Lift4 which I'm really enjoying is 4 times a week. I go for a short run at weekend though.

I'm having to wake up super early as cant work out in the heat!

yumyumpoppycat · 11/08/2020 18:20

Whatiloved that is def a good plan getting up early. I haven't exercised but walked around 2:00 in the sun and it was blazing!

Purple I have just seen there are a few of us on mfp right now - lockdown has a lot to answer for! One of the dcs birthdays today so I had 20 g Colin the caterpillar cake - almost 100 calories Shock

Purpleraindeer · 12/08/2020 06:43

Argh mfp - I hate it. Bloody weight loss. Why why why did I lose 1.5kg last week, then have 1 night when I had pudding/wine and put 0.75kg back on and now despite 3x days of 1200 Cals I’ve still not lost any of it??? I find it so frustrating. I know I need to be patient, but I’m struggling to be! At this rate I’ll have been dieting for 2 weeks eating no more than 1200 Cals, with one off day of say 2000 Cals and I’ll have only lost 1kg. Angry

Did your 9yo go out for the second run poppy?

yumyumpoppycat · 12/08/2020 18:46

No 2nd run yet but ds had a birthday and she wanted to be fully focused on present opening and chocolate birthday cereal eating 😂

I agree totally weight loss is so depressing - some people on another thread are suggesting heat is causing water retention so you might get a whoosh

yumyumpoppycat · 12/08/2020 21:38

Just watching lose a stone in 21 days and apparently yoga has been shown to be really good for fighting inflammation, preventing dementia, arthritis etc but also good for boosting immune system so extra good to do right now! Shame I am rubbish at it!

Purpleraindeer · 14/08/2020 09:53

I’m clinging on to your comment about heat and water retention poppy. Was down 0.5kg today so overall now down 1kg in 10 days. I guess that is ok, but was hoping for a bit more tbh. I’m still bigger than my normal but all my trousers are feeling comfortable again so I’ll take that as a win!

I watched that 21 days programme too. It made me want to give that diet a try as the food looked pretty good and whilst wfh it’s a lot more manageable to control your intake that closely. 21 days feels like a manageable length of time, although getting to Ketosis sounded a bit horrible

yumyumpoppycat · 14/08/2020 12:22

Actually purple you might be too slim to do that diet as it is only recommended for overweight people. Plus there is the risk of gaining back more than you lose like I did. I am only doing it again out of desperation! It always seems you nip gain in the bud quickly which I am really jealous of.

If you wanted to shake things up though an option might be 5 days of 800 cals as a fast and then follow the woe at higher calories or 5:2. Fasting mimicking diets which are 5 days of 800 calories are considered safe a couple of times a year for people at healthy weight so this diet which is much higher in protein should definitely be ok for a 5 day stint followed by higher cals. Apparently calorie cycling can be better for retaining muscle than regular slow and steady calorie deficit.

I am going to take vitamins this time as think I had extra hair loss last time I did it Shock maybe I did the low cal stage for too long.

If you can get a copy of fast800 recipe book it is really good and worth buying for low cal and lowish carb recipes any way.

We have had 2 days away at the coast and a night at premier inn with unlimited breakfast and although I didn't stick to the plan at all I didn't go mad and have lost a lb which makes 5lbs in 4 days - pretty happy about that but I am very very overweight almost in the second obesity level.

WhatILoved · 15/08/2020 06:29

I watched that program and wondered how many actually keep the weight off once the month is over. I imagine it's ok if you have a plan for afterwards. I'd hate to think that the participants were just left at the end of the plan without guidance. It's not something I'd ever do. If I need to lose I go down to 1200 and I find that really hard to stick to every single day. However I'm a healthy weight and am more interested in toning up and developing a bit more muscle. Don't get me wrong would still like to lose a couple of kilos. I think if I spent days on 800 cals I'd eventually lose it and pig out - but maybe the theory is that if you only pig out one day you are still in a cal deficit over all. James Smith was tipping it apart on Twitter, think I'm more with him. I did however find the bit about mushrooms and bit d interesting and served up mushrooms to all the kids (I'm a childminder and have particular interest in child nutrition). None out of 4 appreciated it. Weird how loads of kids in this country hate mushrooms, my own included... my husband is Italian and not the case over there .

yumyumpoppycat · 15/08/2020 11:22

Whatiloved that is the weird thing - quite a few people have said 800 is easier to stock to than 1200 - I think the low cals forces better choices. Possibly it may also means ketosis which makes it easier than being low cal without ketosis. It isn't ketogenic though so the food is a bit more interesting. One thing that has changed since I did it before is an emphasis on getting approx 60g of protein a day - maybe this will help prevent weight regain. Thinking about it the original book said 2 weeks for people who didn't need to lose much. Everyone on the thread I am on is really focused on maintenance so I think it has been an issue for some people.

PlinkPlink · 15/08/2020 12:49

Hello hello 👋

Thanks for the well wishes and hello's 😃😃😃😃

Hope you're all looking after yourselves and taking it easy in the extreme heat. Talk about melting. Jesus.

I have my 8 week check on Wednesday and I've already been set some exercises by physio which I won't attempt until I get the say so from GP. Only PFM and transverse abdominal exercises for now. Though trying to find the time to actively concentrate on the ab exercises is a bit tough.

Also gradually getting my food back on track. No rush. Just little bits here and there.

Gonna try and pop on here a bit more often now. Helps focus my mind. I've missed coming on but its been lovely focusing on the little ones. Baby is growing so fast 🙈 It feels like yesterday I gave birth 😂 why does it go so fast?

yumyumpoppycat · 15/08/2020 13:45

Hi plink so lovely to hear from you and that all is going well with your little ones!

Purpleraindeer · 15/08/2020 21:41

Hi plink - you sound well - and like you’re managing really well with 2 little ones. Hope you’re getting enough sleep.

Poppy - did you say you had lost 4lbs in 5 days (or maybe it was 5lbs in 4 days?) either way - that is brilliant. How is the exercise - are you able to get back into it?

Hi what I loved - welcome to the thread.

No exercise for me today and diet on pause for a few weeks. Am considering a run tomorrow Shock will see how I feel

PlinkPlink · 15/08/2020 22:37

Hey purple, hey yumyum 👋

Yeah, got into the swing of things. OH is already on nights and its not ended in chaos. Its amazing how different my babies have been. This one sleeps thank god so I'm not suffering too badly in the sleep department 😂

Keto never sounded right for me so I never attempted it. It seems to work well for some people though. 800 calories sounds painful though... i don't think I could do that. I love food way too much 😂😂

yumyumpoppycat · 16/08/2020 17:04

Plink - I love food too - that's the problem 😂 the diet isn't very low carb thankfully as there is no way I can cope with never having cake again - I had some of the granola I make for dh with some Greek yog for breakfast today for a change. My daughters were much better sleepers than my son - it was like a bloody miracle when dd1 slept from 12 to 5:30 at only a few weeks old - waking up and it was daylight - I can still remember it now!

Purple dd2 and I finally did day 2 c25k - she is in charge of telling me when it's time to run using her iPod and keeps "accidentally" pressing pause and shaving off run seconds 🙈 I am planning to try and get her out again and also by myself will do some les mills weights type stuff this week.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Reastie · 17/08/2020 11:13

Great to see some chat in here recently. I missed that programme you all watched, was it worth a watch in catch up?

Hello plink, glad things are going relatively well for you. Those 8 weeks have gone so fast!!!

Ketosis isn’t the diet for me because of my IBS pain when I don’t eat enough but if it works then great. Yumy it sounds like you’re totally on it atm.

Plodding along here, I’ve had to give up step zoom class because it was irritating my knee and have been focusing more on cxworx and body balance than lots of cardio to try to build strength more and my back is still really playing up. I think a fair bit of it is due to being stuck on the sofa under a sleeping baby for a couple of hours a day (I can only get him to nap under me still) and my back always feels so painful afterwards. I’ve tried changing the way the cushions are, sticking a cushion on my lower back, using a footstool, always use a bfing cushion...I’m running out of ideas but I can feel it’s causing me lower back pain. Has anyone got any recommendations for back support cushions I can try?

Reastie · 17/08/2020 11:13

Ps purple did you get that run in the end yesterday? How did it go?

yumyumpoppycat · 17/08/2020 11:51

Hi Reastie - as it's just for a nap would it be worth getting a bed guard and lying down on your side on your bed with him next to you in the middle. Maybe not every day as your dd is at home but just enough to give your back a rest?

I might give cxworks a try this week if I can remember to get my bands out of the cupboard.

Reastie · 17/08/2020 12:08

Yumy I have tried that but he just wakes up too soon and won’t let me get him back down again, plus I have to lie there with him and it’s a really awkward position to type on my iPad and I use that time to catch up on stuff online!

yumyumpoppycat · 17/08/2020 12:19

Ah ok, unless I was tired and in the mood to lie down I wouldn't fancy that option much either.

I did have a proper bf chair, although I didn't use it that much. it's in my parents house now and my dad uses it instead of the sofa as he gets a bad back. Maybe ikea might have something similar that would fit in with your front room and still be ok for general use? He also has a back rest on his chair in the kitchen that just attaches to the back but that wouldn't work well on a sofa... guess you could move a dining chair into your living room?

PlinkPlink · 17/08/2020 12:32

Yum, a life without cake would be very sad indeed. I can't cope without the idea of having something naughty in the day.

Hey Reastie 🖐 I know, right? So fast. Can you try a fabric sling? DD loves it in there. She sleeps all day in tgere and handily falls asleep better when I get on with the daily chores.

You can get really shite slings that do your back in but i can literally wear this one all day long. It's a BOBA wrap. It has been a life saver for sure. I can point you to a good wrap tutorial vid too if you decide its the way forward for you.

yumyumpoppycat · 19/08/2020 09:44

Plink a perfect sling is like the holy grail GrinI had a brill one after about 3 fails which I found when second child was about 9 months and she loved it.

So dd was persuaded out yest eve it was beautiful and sunny but not super hot. Haven't got round to online workout yet- I am on day 16 of my longest ever period Confused and feeling a bit yuk although that's not a very good excuse!

Hope all well

Reastie · 19/08/2020 10:41

Plink I had a great wrap when he was tiddly and it was a godsend but he’s way too heavy now for me to lug him in a sling for long. I have an ergo baby omni carrier I use for short times which is suppose to be one of the best for the back and I can’t last long with him in it. He’s a chunk of a baby! Yumy I had a feeding chair but we didn’t have space for it when we got the cot rather than Moses basket so I got rid of it. Hmm, will have a think....

Hope everyone is going well.

PlinkPlink · 19/08/2020 11:16

Ha precisely. The one we had with the DS was like a one shoulder banana hammock thing from Mothercare (gutted that Mothercare has gone btw) and it was just awful 🤣🤣

Ah I see... sounds pretty awkward then Reastie. Could you try one of the hiking carriers? They have waist straps that distribute the weight onto your Hips more than your back? Like a bergan (spelling? 🤔)

Day 16 yumyum? Shock that sucks!! Bad enough when its just a week 😕 I remember with DS I made the stupid mistake of having the contraceptive injection. Aside from making depressed and emotional, also gave me 2 week periods every 2 weeks for 6 months Confused nightmare!

DD has just had her 8 week check. She's 13lb 6oz now ShockGrin
