Hi, first time poster long time reader here. Just got in from completing day one of couch to 5k! So tired but i think maybe worth it, just wondering if anyone else has started and how their experience has been so far / any tipsSmile

I've had a cough all week and really struggled just doing 20 minutes on Wednesday but slowed down (even more) and did 30 yesterday.

I feel so much better for doing C25K, I don't weigh myself but I am slightly more toned but more importantly my RHR has come down each month and it has helped my mental health through some stressful times.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/03/2019 08:49

you are all so fabulous running outside!! Especially in the rain whitelisbon
I am hiding in the shed on the cross trainer or treadmill sweating and wheezing.

I am going to give it a miss today, and chill with my germs, still very wheezy...I have been joking that dd has given me her asthma, but am beginning to wonder...too much cold air makes me wheeze, and every sniffle I get does too.

Violetroselily · 02/03/2019 09:34

Week 8 is my nemesis. I've just had to abandon W8R3 after 10 minutes because I just couldnt breathe. Same thing happened on W8R2 last weekend.

Its so frustrating because I know I can do it. W8R1 was absolutely fine, as was my second attempt at R2.

Angry Angry Angry

Determined to try it again this evening.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/03/2019 09:43

are you setting off at too fast a lick?? I can't remember which voice it is, but one of them reminds you to breath IN1-2-3-444444444444 and OUT1-2-3-4444.... are you concentrating on that? I know I find myself panting away if I feel the need for a bit of speed running from the zombies moment and as soon as I catch myself doing that I do the in and out counting and that really helps

I think my rest decision was wise, just had to run up two flights of stairs as I thought I heard the cat yakking up something, had to sit down before making my toast when I got back to the kitchen.

fiddie · 02/03/2019 13:04

Bugger, totally failed. Could only do 7 minutes then felt like I was going to collapse, no way could I have gone on for another 21 minutes.

Will try again in a couple of days.

Violetroselily · 02/03/2019 14:02

@fiddie high five we will get there

Fiddie · 02/03/2019 14:21

Thanks Violet. I feel rubbish.

dementedma · 02/03/2019 18:41

fiddie take a few days rest and then try again. Sometimes it is SO difficult and I think you need to listen to your body.
Mine is always telling me to eat cake though, so I try to ignore it!

Violetroselily · 02/03/2019 19:09

@Fiddie I know, it's so deflating to have to stop. Try to remember that it wont always be a linear progression - some days will feel like a step back.

I just went out again and managed to complete W8R3. It was shit and my legs feel like lead. Not sure whether I'm even going to attempt W9 this week, or if I need to get a few more 28 mins under my belt.

Cake Wine to everyone still plodding along

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/03/2019 20:49

oh fiddie, that's a shame.....just repeat what you can do and build on that you will get there, w9 is 3x 30 and W7 was 3 x 25, so you are only 15 minutes away from the end...and less if you count the 28's you have done!

I am going to do another W8 when i have shifted this cold, no way will I be able to launch into W9

Coldandfrosty · 03/03/2019 11:52

Hello all. I got brave and decided to do a park run yest. I did it with Laura week8r3 on with me and so I ran for 28 min plus a wee bit more and walked up a hill the 2md time. Was most running I've done ever. Time was 38min59seconds. Which I'm delighted with.

Totally urge anyone to try a park run. So much kindness and support. Was just lovely.

Hope all who have had the lurgy are feeling better!

timetomoveon · 03/03/2019 14:07

Wow @coldandfrosty - that’s so fab. Good for you for doing it. I’m still nervous of anyone seeing me!

Coldandfrosty · 03/03/2019 14:37

@timetomoveon do you mean anyone you know seeing? I went to one further away because of that. But it live in a big city so there are lots near me.

dementedma · 03/03/2019 19:21

Well done on the park run. I hope to try one once Im a bit fitter. W7R2 done today. Felt hard today and legs were heavy but got it done

timetomoveon · 03/03/2019 23:00

Yes @coldandfrosty that’s what I mean. I live very near to lots of colleagues.

Did w9r1 this morning. I can honestly say that this is the furthest I’ve ever run in my entire life.

Coldandfrosty · 04/03/2019 07:50

@timetomoveon well done that's awesome. I've just done that run this morning. I'm not doing anymore now until the weekend. I have my running club on Thur eve so will do a bit then prob 5k ish but added walking when needed. Then have my 5k charity run on sun when I plan to do the final week in my ear as I run, I feel like that would be a nice way to end. Might also do parkrun on Sat...that's 2 days of longer runs in a row though.

StillWould · 04/03/2019 17:08

Sounds like everyone is doing so well, even if there is the odd set back the encouragement on here is brilliant. I have just done W5R3 so the first time I have ever run twenty minutes. I am not sure I would have got through it without reading all of the positives on here but I did and I am so proud of myself. Losing weight from my tummy too which is most welcome (and necessary).

RenardeRenarde · 04/03/2019 17:50

Heading out for W8R2 soon... my last run was absolutely hideous, I was convinced I wouldn’t even hit 20 minutes but staggered through to 28. Hoping today will be better, I find running after work in the evening much less difficult than running in the mornings for whatever reason.
I’ve got a long work trip coming up so need to really get in the zone before I go so I keep it up whilst I’m away!

Coldandfrosty · 05/03/2019 18:35

stillwould yes it's reading comments on here that have kept me going. Can't believe I "graduate c25k" this weekend. I wouldn't be e got this far without this thread.

renarde you're the opposite from me. When I go first thing in morn I'm much better than when I do eve! I get more stitches in the eve

StillWould · 06/03/2019 11:09

@coldandfrosty congratulations on your graduation this weekend - I can't wait to get there myself!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 06/03/2019 15:50

go for it coldandfrosty :o

I haven't done a thing since last thursday, my cold has been just dreadful, I managed to sleep last night and not wake up struggling to breath or coughing up a lung, so I am going to set to tomorrow and do a W8 slow pass! I have actually missed it just a little bit.

We did a lovely walk though yesterday with the dog, nice flat beach and behind the dunes, but that took way longer than it normally did due to the not breathing.

Anyhoo, back to it tomorrow!

Fiddie · 06/03/2019 22:33

I haven't done anything since my wk8r1 fail, I hurt my back somehow and I've been resting it.

I'm going to try again on Friday. I'm starting to think that I'm just one of those who doesn't like running though. I've realised that rather than enjoying it I've just been counting down the minutes until I can stop Confused

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/03/2019 11:49

ah fiddie get that back limbered and fit before you do anymore, don't do anymore damage.

I did W9R1 inspite of the wheezing today...I did go very slowly though I am going to repeat this over two weeks, and work on the speed

Am very chuffed with myself.

timetomoveon · 07/03/2019 22:35

Sorry to hear about all the injuries and sickness. Hope everyone is out running again soon.

Well, I did it. W9r3 is done. I’m finished. I’m a graduate. I was expecting fireworks and Michael Johnson to leap out from behind a bush with flowers (I thought we’d grown close after all these weeks) but alas it just just me sweating and panting as he told me I’d finished.
I’ve run 4.4k so I’m going to plan to run at 4.8 next week and then get to 5k the week after.
Thanks to everyone on this thread - posting here and getting tips and inspiration from you all has been a big help and motivator. I love this thread. But where do I go now? Is there an after the c25k thread?
Good luck to everyone else with their weekend runs. You’ve got this :)

Coldandfrosty · 08/03/2019 07:23

Last night I went to my 2nd week of running club. They deemed me NOT A BEGINNER?! And put me in the non beginners group and I ran with then for 5k with no stopping!! First time I've done that without stopping. So delighted. We had a few enforced breaks with traffic lights for a few moments but that's all.

Not actually done final weeks with app yet still saving them for weekend.

timetomoveon fantastic. So pleased for you well done. I'm not sure where we should go? But tell me where you go and I'll stalk you on that thread...in a friendly supportive way. Plan on hanging around here a bit too cos knowing the app works was a big help to me.
