I started today, have never ever done any exercise and I'm the wrong side of 40.

I joined a gym to do it and I think there were other people there doing it too!

I hope I don't get left behind!

I have just finished week 2. I think the most important thing is to plan when to do the runs, and then keep to the schedule. I mainly aim to run on Friday, Sunday and Tuesday

Week1Run2 completed! I tried very hard to not get disheartened by a man in a suit going for the train that passed me Confused However I passed lots of houses in darkness and I told myself while they were sleeping I'd done my exercise for the day so that made me feel a bit better.
Happy running (I think plodding is more accurate for me) to anyone doing it today!

Week 1 day 1 done! I'm delighted with myself, it was hard but doable. I was more plodding than running but I was moving and that is all that counts Grin.

Week 4 run 2 today, it seems a big jump to run for 5 mins and 16 mins in total all of a sudden but really pleased to have managed it.

I started running with the C25K ap and I'm running my first half in March. You can use Spotify, Strava and C25K all at once which helped me loads. It does drain your battery a bit though. Good luck ok!

I'm doing day 2 week one tomorrow.,I'm definitely a plodder!

@Hezz me too! Never ran before in my life. Had the app on my phone since last January (shameful) and figured yesterday was a good a day as any to give it a go!

Week4 run3 done. Bit of a stitch on the last 5 min run but up to then I enjoyed it. (Disclaimer: I'm 51 and at least 1st overweight)

I've just done week 3, run 1! It seemed a massive jump to 3 minutes running, but there are only 4 running segments so it seemed short overall.

I tried to do week 4, day 1 the other day. It kicked my arse majorly. A step up to a 4 minute run just seemed so long. It was so cold it was hard to get my legs moving, and I stupidly decided to not listen to music. Had been on a bit of a high at the end of week 3, that'll show me not to get complacent!
Will give it another go tonight repeating the session, and hope I can do better. Am in awe of those who casually say "Oh I ran 5k/10k last night..." I so want to be able to do that. My stamina (or lack thereof) is embarrassing.

Jjou week 4 seems like a big change from week 3 but I found runs 2&3 ok and I was dreading repeating it.

That's reassuring! I was just so disappointed that I struggled so much. Will repeat 4.1 again tonight and see what happens.

Just keep it up. If you have had a bad day, or feel tired etc, definitely still do the run. It'll make you feel better - Honest!
I started nearly 2 years ago. Began with C25K and went to Parkrun on Saturdays which gave me goals to aim for. Some weeks now I can rack up 50K, and have lost 25 kilos along the way. At the start I could barely break into a trot. Good luck!

I've just finished w1d2 and I swear I couldn't have run 10 more seconds during each of the 8 runs. Please please tell me it gets easier ! I really want to do this but I feel about 1000kgs as I'm running, maybe I'm too heavy at 70kg :/.

Hezz · 11/01/2019 21:05

@TyrionLannistersShadow I felt the same yesterday! It's not just you, I was honestly counting down the seconds.

tyrion I'm 80kg and 55 next week. am on Week2 run 2 tomorrow!

have done C25K several times in the past when I was younger and not so overweight and it always worked so I'm hoping I will be able to do it this time too.

having problems with the App not letting me use the same voice all the time though. have to keep changing.

It really does get easier! (From the person moaning a couple of hours ago!)
I just repeated week 4 day 1 - the running sections are 3 min, 2 x 4 min then a 3 min again. I managed 2.5, 3, then 4 and 3 so much better than the other day. Will do it again on Sunday.
I repeated week 1 and week 2 a couple of times, but have definitely improved more quickly as the programme has gone on. Stick with it!

W1R3 completed! I had pain in my shins today so think I might need new trainers. The ones I've got are probably 3 years old so no cushioning left I guess. My shoes always wear away on the inside heel of both feet (does that make sense?) rather than equally - anyone know if I need to get something specific that would be better when I'm plodding? Keep on plodding folks

maybe I'm too heavy at 70kg

That's about 11 stone? I was 14 1/2 stone when I started C25K in April last year. I now run every day. Currently averaging over 10km per day. Today I ran 9km non-stop this morning. Then because I had nothing to do this evening, took my dog out for a fast paced 5km run. So 14km over two runs in a day. My intention is not to be boastful, but to show where you could be in a few months time.

Piebeansandchips - if your trainers are worn then definitely time for some new ones. But the aches and pains are probably more to do with low fitness levels than anything else. The more you do, the easier it will be and the niggles should ease.

Be sure to use the NHS C25K program, rather than any of the commercial ones out there. The NHS one gives pointers on how to maintain good running form so you avoid injury, along with all the usual moral support along the way.

@FATEdestiny I'm doing the nhs couch25k with Sarah Milligan. I do feel she's going to offer me tea and biscuits at some point tho, maybe when I've done all the runs 😉
Definitely a low level of fitness. Will just get a new pair of the ones I've got and see how I go. Thank you
