Hi, first time poster long time reader here. Just got in from completing day one of couch to 5k! So tired but i think maybe worth it, just wondering if anyone else has started and how their experience has been so far / any tipsSmile

Have only done W1 so far, then stopped for a week because I entered my first ever rowing race yesterday and didn't want sore knees for the event! (3.2km + the same distance rowing to the start)

On to W2 tomorrow Smile

dementedma · 24/02/2019 18:51

yes fiddie it was the hardest run yet and I struggled to finish the second set of 10 mins. got the 25 min run tomorrow night so we will see if that feels any easier.

timetomoveon · 24/02/2019 22:27

Just done w8r1. The first 15 mins felt good but I found the last half harder. The heat index was 33 when I ran though so I think it’s the hottest I’ve run in so far. Almost got to 4K in the 28 mins so will hope to get there by the 3rd run this week.
It actually seems plausible that next week I will be able to run for 30 mins - 2 months ago I didn’t think I could run for 1 minute without stopping!

fiddie · 25/02/2019 17:01

Just done wk 7 r3, was hard but I did it. Felt like a very long time though!

dementedma · 25/02/2019 20:03

well done fiddie. I'm a week behind you and just did W6R3. i ran for 25 whole minutes! and actually it was easier than the other two runs this week. Am feeling very proud of myself.

Fiddie · 25/02/2019 21:29

Well done @dementedma, this really works! My legs are very achy now though.

Imstickingwiththisone · 26/02/2019 22:15

Well done demented and fiddie

I did w3r2 tonight and found it more difficult even though it's the same as w3r1. I haven't eaten much today though so maybe I'll have to bear that in mind from now. Eating for fuel will be something new, I usually eat out of boredom!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 26/02/2019 22:22

i have one more W8 to do, it was so warm today I steamed up the window in the shed

I am a human generator :o

Wasn't quite so fast today as sunday, but I had the most appalling neck crick after sleeping awkwardly. I did do extra warm down walking to equal sunday's distance. Not that I am competitive or anything

I am very yikes about W9 though

you are doing really well with your distances timetomoveon

Keep it going everyone!

timetomoveon · 26/02/2019 22:26

Well done MsMighty - I’ve caight up to you and just done w8r2. It was pretty ok - I went way too fast in the first km so then had to do the 2nd much slower but then leveled my time back to 7min/km.
I saw one of my colleagues on his way to work when I was out this morning. I’ve been running v early in the morning so there’s no one else around as I was embarrassed to be seen :(

Fiddie · 26/02/2019 22:41

Any tips for wk8 r1? I'm doing it tomorrow but honestly felt that 25 minutes was my absolute limit yesterday.

I definitely need some new music!

timetomoveon · 27/02/2019 08:05

I need new music too. I’ve been listening to the same stuff the whole time and I’m getting bored of it!
@Fiddie - I think just try to treat it as another 25 mins run. You can do 25 and 28 is just a little more. Michael told me when I had 5 mins left and so I knew I could make it through the last 5, even if I was going pretty slowly. See how you go - you might surprise yourself. Good luck!

StillWould · 27/02/2019 20:16

W5R1 today and it felt better than W4. I have switched from listening to music to podcasts and am doing so much better. I always could gauge how long I had been running based on where I was in the song and I found it really demotivating knowing there was still so much song and therefore running to go. Listening to an interesting podcast distracts me and I just seem to get on with it.

cabininthewoods2016 · 27/02/2019 23:13

W1r1 done yesterday.

This thread is so inspirational.

Never ever thought I could run for 1 minute never mind 7 x 1 minutes

Go me! Looking forward to w1r2 on Saturday

anniehm · 27/02/2019 23:15

I started in the summer having not run since compulsory pe ended at 14! (Very long time ago) after 2 weeks I started parkrun - you can walk parts as needed. I've finished 18 now!

vjg13 · 28/02/2019 06:57

Can anyone recommend some interesting podcasts, another one here bored by listening to the same music.

I'm on my second week of consolidating with 3x30 minute runs but have a cough this week and struggled through 20 mins only yesterday.

StillWould · 28/02/2019 10:04

Vjg13 I am very late to this podcast series but I have been listening to Serial. I am engrossed! I also listen to the BBC film reviews and choose what movie to watch at the weekend!

RenardeRenarde · 28/02/2019 17:59

I can’t run to music either, I get bored of it after a while and waiting for a song to finish feels like torture. I like the Empire movie podcast and also Stephen Fry’s radio 4 series Victorian secrets (about everything from sex to murder to seances) has been good recently

dementedma · 28/02/2019 18:06

I just listen to the rhythm of my feet and the birdsong. I always run outside and i just let my thoughts wander. W7R1 done today

timetomoveon · 28/02/2019 22:53

W8r3 done.
I can’t believe that I’ve only got one week left!

Coldandfrosty · 01/03/2019 14:04

I'm doing w8r3 today.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 01/03/2019 19:50

i am so full of the cold, I feel dreadful!! ....is it better not to run, or better to do a slow and steady?

supposed to be W9R1 tomorrow, and I can barely breath just sitting here.

Macs18 · 01/03/2019 20:05

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours
I think they saying is that if it's in your chest, take a break, but it's ok if it's more just a headcold...go easy on yourself though! It wouldn't be the end of the world if you had to miss.
I'm on w8r1… heading out tomorrow. It might sound a little exaggerated, but I have genuinely found the whole couch to 5k life changing. I've lost a stone, would like to get off another half stone- but my mental health has improved drastically. I feel like I can manage stress better and just generally feel so much happier and content in my own skin.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 01/03/2019 21:47

i will see how it is tomorrow, but dh said I was wheezing like a old wheezy thing all night. I may just practice on the treadmill...see if i can keep my balance. Hmm

It's a good thing though isn't it...I am impressed with myself to be able to keep moving pretty fast for all that time
and I do not weigh, but certainly noting a smaller midriff and generally feeling less achey and lazy.

Keep it up everyone! It's good for us all!

fiddie · 01/03/2019 23:07

I was supposed to do wk8 r1 on Wednesday but I've not been well. Full of cold and knackered so I put it off. I'm going to do it tomorrow.

Whitelisbon · 01/03/2019 23:22

I've had to have a couple of weeks off, as I've been ill and struggled to get from the sofa to the toilet!
Anyway, I went out tonight and redid w2r3. It was pissing it down with rain, and I got soaked, but I actually really enjoyed it for the first time, and didn't find it too difficult, surprisingly!
I wasn't sure if I'd manage or not, but w3r1 on Sunday now Grin
