Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

Every bit counts brassica :)

Thank you all for the kind words about the back...feeling a bit better now thanks to Ibuprofen gel, heat and ice. No running for a couple of days...Sad so Pilates stretches it is

FATEdestiny · 07/01/2019 19:12

Every kilometre counts @NakedAvenger!

I'm aiming big this month - trying for 300km in January. And I know my milage needs to be low on Wednesday and possibly Friday too this week, because I'm busy those days. So I'm trying to get some 'in the bank' before then.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/01/2019 19:19

Nothing on Sat
Nothing on Sun
And thanks to having to work a bit this evening nothing tonight BUT wfh tomorrow so WILL be busting out a cheeky 5K

Hope everyone is feeling better.
Back to work etc today and felt very Januaryish. Motivation was lacking and felt very tired. But figured I’d be tired if I went or not so put my gear on and went out as soon as DH got home.
Did just under 3miles at a reasonable pace and feel better for it. Also pleased with my 7 out of 7 achievement so far. (Also did realise we are nearly a quarter through)

DomesticAnarchist · 07/01/2019 19:50

😩 My DCs did not sleep last night. Back at work today and then DC1 has a cold and is all pathetic and sad (perked up after ibuprofen though).

I'm on the fence about doing anything tonight - I drove home thinking definitely not: I need to go to sleep ASAP. But I've just munched a bowl of cereal, I've got everything sorted for the morning. Maybe I'll go and do a gentle & short run/walk. I'll probably feel better...

I better get changed before the impetus leaves me...

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/01/2019 19:52

If your tail is wagging @DomesticAnarchist go for it!

Mine is all droopy this evening thanks to stupid spreadsheets

Go go go DomesticAnarchist - nobody ever regrets a run!

1.8m done to round me up to 20(.1) miles. I wasn't going to go today but I'm having my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and won't be able to do anything that raises my blood pressure for 24h after?! So I'll need to try & get out early tomorrow too. Really hoping it doesn't poo on my RED Jan plans!! Sad

DomesticAnarchist · 07/01/2019 21:15

I did it. Just a little one that was way more walk than run.

I got a Polar watch because it has these training programmes on it. And so today was another one of those 30
"easy jog" ones that is set by heart rate zone.

My HR has always tended to go high immediately on moving. It did get a lot better during the C25K, and I can run 5k with it sticking around 150ish (instead of 170-180 that it would the last time I did the C25K).

I've had a look, and I think the HR zones are correct (I've read some articles and done the maths, and then found an online calculator which said the same). So should I persist with the training as it is - will that lower my HR? Or should I change the zones to fit what I'm getting?

DomesticAnarchist · 07/01/2019 21:30

Well done @GroggyLegs and good planning for tomorrow. Hope the extraction isn't too awful.

You did it though @DomesticAnarchist Star

Thanks @PaulHollywoodsSexGut!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 08/01/2019 15:44

Strava keeps knocking 0.2km off my grand total so if my Garmin says 2.8 Strava will say 2.6.

Wanker.

Today I have done 2.8 km which is less than I wanted to but today has been hella busyyyyyy

OP posts:
StewardsEnquiry · 08/01/2019 16:52

Sympathies for Strava's wankerish tendencies. Grin

I did a paltry 1km running and further 0.5 walking but I was on a treadmill which I haven't tried for about 10 years or possibly more. I am definitely an outdoor runner. Treadmills are evil things! I felt all wrong - wrong speed, wrong feet, wrong legs, wrong clothes, wrong crap music in the gym, wrong temperature (WAY too hot!)... anyway, I know now. Won't do that again in a hurry.

GroggyLegs · 08/01/2019 19:35

steward I can't abide the dreadmill either, very weird and hugely boring. 10 mins is my limit!

2.8 still better than a big fat zero PaulHollywood! Good work for finding the time!

2 miles done this morning. I'm now lighter by one huge tooth so expect to lose at least 15 seconds of my pace tomorrow. If my face hasn't fallen off overnight.

IRun4Me · 08/01/2019 19:42

I did day 8 and managed 3.1 miles. So proud of myself.
I agree Stewards I used to run on the treadmill but then started running outside. If I ever run on the treadmill now I find it so hard and booooring

Mymadworld · 08/01/2019 23:14

Finally got my 5km back under 30 minutes today so feeling very happy. I felt good and could have carried on but had hungry teens awaiting dinner so called it a day at 5.5km.
Short run and a strength training session curtesy of Nike Train Club tomorrow as I need to build up my core/glutes and running alone isn't doing it.

Verbena87 · 09/01/2019 15:12

Walk on Monday and yoga yesterday.

Hoping to nip out for a quick run this afternoon but also feeling very januaryish after back to work yesterday. 5:45 alarm in the morning as well. Ugh!

DomesticAnarchist · 09/01/2019 15:59

I feel you, @Verbena87! Although I've been heavy on the snooze button so far!

A colleague has started getting up at 5am to run and catch up on work. Maybe I should try it? (Though not to run)

Sedate 5k club run yesterday. Planning a weights & stretching session tonight, and then tomorrow I'm thinking about joining the running club's training session for the first time. Confused Grin

SkiMum99 · 09/01/2019 20:07

Only a short 20min walk for fresh air today after 3sofa days due to this nasty virus I’ve nicknamed mini flu. Sad I SO wanted to do all the January ParkRuns this year but think I’d really struggle this Saturday the way I’m feeling at the moment.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/01/2019 13:27

So happy, just busted out 5.1K; this is what I’ve been trying to get to for 10 days now and at last I’ve done it.

A modest target I’ll gjve you that but work and two tiny children can made things pretty arduous when you’re trying to get out and stay out Grin

OP posts:
IRun4Me · 10/01/2019 13:47

Well done PaulHollywood You should be pleased and proud.
Hope you are feeling better SkiMum
Day 9 and 10 ticked off. I honestly didn’t think I would manage this far. Hoping I can keep it up. It’s definitely helping me get through January!

AuntieStella · 10/01/2019 17:17

I'm still on track. I've had a bit of a cold, so short/easy runs only. Which I doubt I would have done at all, had it not been for RED, but I do feel rather better for

Verbena87 · 10/01/2019 17:54

5 mile pushchair walk yesterday (didn’t find the energy to run in the end). Will probably be another yoga session today as it’s dark and cold and I’m knackered which always seems to make my prolapse worse.

DomesticAnarchist · 10/01/2019 20:04

"work and two tiny children can made things pretty arduous when you’re trying to get out and stay out"
Yeah it can! Well done on your achievement @PaulHollywoodsSexGut

Well done @IRun4Me & @AuntieStella and @Verbena87 that definitely sounds like a legitimate reason to choose yoga (although 'I want to' is also good enough!)

I failed on the training run tonight - my excuse involves two toddler poo-tastrophes 💩

But, I'm about to get changed and run by myself instead. In a minute... honestly...

Verbena87 · 10/01/2019 21:00

Cheers @DomesticAnarchist - what I want today is to run on a cold but sunny afternoon in the Lake District in my pre-birth body and then drink beer and eat cake, but I think it’ll have to be the yoga given the inconvenient existence of Real Life.

And I hear you on the poo-tastrophe front. My day has involved 3 pooey nappies since getting home from a 10 hour work day. Husband had done 2 already. Baby is not having blueberries again!

How’s everyone else getting on?
