Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

I did a 4.5k interval run this evening (with hand warmers in my gloves for toasty fingers!)

Good idea on the cycling tops. I'll keep my eyes open 👀

Mymadworld · 05/01/2019 22:08

I either wear cycling tops or my favourite is a Nike Dri Fit half zip running top - size down unless you plan on wearing loads of layers under but it's brilliant in cold weather and has thumb holes which are great if like me you heat up too quickly for gloves.

GroggyLegs · 05/01/2019 23:03

A surprising 3 miles tonight.
It was one of those where you think it's going to be awful and ends up quite enjoyable!

I have an odlo baselayer which I love, I can put it under a technical t-shirt down to about 4 degrees, then under a long sleeved top as it gets colder.
Do the cycling tops wick well? I'm a very sweaty runner Blush

RED miles: 13.3 (I think)
66.7 to Target (maybe)

Regarding warm running gear, especially if you are an evening runner, check these out:

Absolutely wicked! Look black in normal light, but fully reflective when it's dark.

Another 2km done this morning. Great advice on the tops and I love the secret reflective tights! I'll have a good internet mooch tomorrow once I've dropped DC off at school. Thanks everyone.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 06/01/2019 12:04

Decathlon do a great body torch too, I find it more comfortable than a head torch and more reliable than the LED shoe clips which I seem to lose more than use!

AuntieStella · 06/01/2019 12:23

Still on track. 5k yesterday and 10k today.

(25.6 miles so far this month)

IRun4Me · 06/01/2019 12:28

Did do a short run today. I was impressed with my January total of just over 16 miles until I saw yours AuntieStella Grin
Actually enjoying running everyday so far and am feeling good

Mymadworld · 06/01/2019 12:37

Finally managed to break the 5km barrier (after 6 weeks off!) and got 5.3 in the bag Smile I did have a little rest stretch mid way after a bit hill but pleased to get there at last. I'm aiming for a nice flat 7km route I used to do regularly by the end of the month.

BrassicaBabe · 06/01/2019 12:42

13k rowing today in a crew boat. But still planning on a box ticking 1k run later

SandunesAndRainclouds · 06/01/2019 14:32

I’m struggling to get out today.

I have CFS which was a bitch yesterday and I felt horrible all afternoon and evening. Anxiety took the opportunity to tell me how shit I was at everything while I was laid low... I swear feeling unwell makes anxiety louder.

Anyway, to today... just want to hide away under a blanket.

DomesticAnarchist · 06/01/2019 16:16

@SandunesAndRainclouds, maybe try some YouTube yoga instead today? It's good for anxiety (image from New Scientist)

@SandunesAndRainclouds

Have a look at Yoga with Adriene Dedicate 30 days of yoga on YouTube. There’s also a MN thread I’ll link you to in a moment

Bike ride today

Verbena87 · 06/01/2019 17:59

Gear wise, I like icebreaker vests (look in the sale as very expensive otherwise) and have a couple of Rab MeCo tops to wear on top. Or I nick my husband’s cycling tops!

15 minutes of very chilled yoga in my PJs yesterday. Lovely!

7 miles and nearly 800ft of elevation gain today so feeling pretty smug. It’s the furthest I’ve run since before being pregnant and felt so good to manage it, even if I may have possibly walked a few of the ascents.

SkiMum99 · 06/01/2019 18:08

An hours walk today and some yoga stretches as struggling with a cough that has been nibbling all week and I’ve tried to ignore it but it’s run me down today Sad my DDs had it for couple of weeks so hoping it doesn’t linger too long as I missed my swim today.

CalmConfident · 07/01/2019 07:58

Oh no...my back has gone ping....so cross...Sad

CalmConfident · 07/01/2019 07:59

So stretching only for me now for a few days and hope is a just a twinge

BrassicaBabe · 07/01/2019 08:15

Oh no Calm. Hope it eases quickly.

I did manage my 1k yesterday. Today is supposed to be 5k. But I've got a stinking cold Sad Not sure what I'll end up doing today.

GroggyLegs · 07/01/2019 08:28

Sandunes how are things today?
Oh no calm! Everything crossed for a twinge.

5 miles done yesterday. I have a cough lurking, I'm hoping the running doesn't make it worse - I generally go with the 'neck up, keep running, below the neck stop' rule but I've felt fine aside from a bit of a sore throat. Might take it easier today & do yoga instead.

RED miles 18.3

Verbena87 · 07/01/2019 09:27

calm hope the stretching does the trick. So frustrating!

Hope all the coughs/colds/viruses shift quickly. This bit if winter with no Christmas to look forward to but another few months of dark mornings and snotty sinuses do my head in!

FATEdestiny · 07/01/2019 12:59

7 days of RED January done, 75km distance covered so far.

StewardsEnquiry · 07/01/2019 13:05

Another 3.5km done today for me.

BrassicaBabe · 07/01/2019 17:01

Blime Fate that's a long way!
