Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 27/12/2018 09:21

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

@mymadworld I’m returning to running after injury as well and focusing on putting miles in my legs before I start with intervals/speedwork etc (although all my runs are hilly because of where I live, which is how I like it). I’m aiming for 2 3-ish milers a week and a longer run that increases by 10% each week at weekends. My last long run was 6.2 miles, so the next should be 6.8. I’ve got a 10k race in April so would like to get my long run up towards the 10 mile mark by then as I’d like a decent time, but it’ll very much depend on listening to my body and seeing how I get on.

DomesticAnarchist · 04/01/2019 21:24

I didn't run. But I did do the 10 min stretching thing my watch told me to do, and then did 45 mins of yoga with Adrienne.

We've been on lockdown, potty training the last couple of days. Really should have gone out and run instead!

AnnaNimmity · 04/01/2019 21:35

I'm doing this - this is my third year (the first year it really helped me through a really shit january). I am running or walking every day.

I bought it for my bf too. Think this is such a good idea and such a good cause - last year I just donated at the end of the month rather than raising sponsorship.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 04/01/2019 22:05

You know I only got wind of this thanks to a MN thread from last month and I wish I could remember the name of the poster who cited hating January so much she needed tips to get through it.

Been thinking about her as I can’t find the thread but wonder if she’s doing this or Yoga with Adriene and having a better January than she thought

Another 2.1 miles shoehorned in tonight.

I'm hoping to get a longer run in this weekend too verbena. There's a 9 mile in Feb I'd like to enter but my confidence is weirdly low after an injury break in October that killed my mojo til now.

RED miles 10.3
69.7 to go.

Verbena87 · 04/01/2019 23:35

Ah groggylegs go for it if you think your injury will hold up! What’s the worst that can happen? You have to walk a bit? Who cares?

BrassicaBabe · 04/01/2019 23:35

1.5k for me today. Hope to tick off 10k tomorrow.

(I know the serious runners on this thread as they count in miles Grin)

Mymadworld · 05/01/2019 00:46

3km walk in the woods with kiddies today but planning a 5km run tomorrow.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 05/01/2019 06:36

2 miles yesterday and walking today as I have a union meeting.

IRun4Me · 05/01/2019 09:31

Day 5 done. Longer one today of 5 miles. (Though don’t think I’m a serious runner Grin) Not sure if I’ll do a short run or yoga tomorrow. Back to routine Monday so I’m wondering if I should run tomorrow whilst I know I have the opportunity

SkiMum99 · 05/01/2019 10:12

ParkRun with kids, plus 1km to carpark. 6km done Smile

CalmConfident · 05/01/2019 10:49

A couple of missed days due to feeling poorly...but back on track now, parkrun done

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/01/2019 11:31

parkrun for me today, lovely run with friends. That’s the best bit for me - seeing real people and real smiles.

7 miles planned for tomorrow.

Mymadworld · 05/01/2019 13:08

Grrrrr really wish I'd done a parkrun today as I'm now struggling to get motivated and haul myself outside

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/01/2019 14:32

Put your shoes on and go mymad - you’ll feel worse for not going...

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2019 14:49

It sounds so sad (but imma sucker for a gimmick) but marking off the kilometres on my RED T-shirt day by day gives me a real sense of pride to look at it, even if the grand total so far is 7.3 Grin

Did you get the goody pack @mymadworld

OP posts:
CalmConfident · 05/01/2019 15:54

My RED pack has not arrived yet but had email to say it on the way!

I like the idea of donating for missed days !!!

BrassicaBabe · 05/01/2019 16:29

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut are you writing on your t-shirt? I have a fabric pen and thought about doing the same thing.

A disappointing run for me today. Sometimes it's a mental thing isn't it? I left the house planning 10K but my heart wasn't in it even at that stage I ended up doing a 5k jog/walk which was 70% walk.

Rowing tomorrow. Might count that. Might do a 1k freshener

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2019 17:06

Yep @brassicababe but that’s mainly because I have plentiful access to sharpies and an inferiority complex Grin

OP posts:
BrassicaBabe · 05/01/2019 17:10

Hahaha nice one. Will join you in that Grin

StewardsEnquiry · 05/01/2019 17:39

Just diving in to say I've done my run for today. 2.5km. Felt nice for the first time!

I need a couple more winter running tops though. It is 4 degrees and I feel the cold. Anyone got any recommendations? I don't mind a bit spendy.

BrassicaBabe · 05/01/2019 17:45

@StewardsEnquiry maybe tipping into very speedy?! But in the sale!

BrassicaBabe · 05/01/2019 17:46

The blue is my fav. (American sizing. I order a 6 when I'm a UK 10)

SandunesAndRainclouds · 05/01/2019 18:23

I wear a cycling long sleeved base layer - I prefer the ones aimed at cyclists because they’re longer over the bottom. Still does the same job as a running top. My latest addition is a bright yellow top from decathlon which was in the sale for £9. I layered today with base, my RED t-shirt and a lightweight jacket, but by the end of the first mile my jacket was tied around my waist. I kept my gloves on though!

SkiMum99 · 05/01/2019 19:33

Ooh I’d forgotten my cycling tops I will fish them out for cold runs as I do like them being longer over my bum Grin
