Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

Thanks all,

I think I need to replace the few bits I've got (which are around 4 years old and not really comfortable) and make uuse of the 15-min cycle.

I'm still not convinced about morning running, FATE! I've got the rest of this week off then back to work. If I run before work it'll have to be quick 6am runs and back to get everyone ready. It's logistically possible, but it'll be interesting to see if I can go on to teach 6 lessons and cook dinner afterwards!

I'm pretty happy running in the evening, but I'm conscious that if we get a warm summer like last then mornings will be the only bearable time! Work in progress, for now.

Having said that, I don't think I'm going to be able to physically actually run every day. Just got off the sofa and my knees are not pleased with this! (Did a 'practice' 1k last night!).

Maybe some yoga tomorrow...!

FATEdestiny · 01/01/2019 13:59

If you're happy with evening running then I'd carry on doing that, if I were you. Come summer it'll be no cooler at 6am than it is at 7pm. Lots of light in the evenings means you'll have plenty of time to fit runs in.

I managed 9am runs in blistering heat through the summer. I quickly learned runs that were good for shade at the times I ran. I found lots of runners do this, routes that are usually quiet get very busy at times they are shaded well.

Forgot to mention bras and socks in earlier posts. Long socks with Capri or shorts are as good as long leggings when it's cold. I use my teenagers football socks (useful having two teenage children who are a similar size to me!), which we have loads of and are only £3 or so to buy. Otherwise trainer socks from Decathlon.

For bras I have four (of two different sizes) tesco sports bras in the same style that I like best. I also have 2 decathlon bras which fit but I find restrictive and so not my preferred bra. I tend to only wear the 4 Tesco ones, but have the other two just in case.

Can I join? Did c25k in the summer and have been trying to run 5k three times a week. Have had the last 2 weeks off because life keeps getting in the way but have just come back from a slow 5k.
Plan to start building to 10k from this month.

1. How can I get better at morning running (or at least, post-run existence)

I hate morning running unless I’ve had breakfast, which needs an hour to go down, so I just don’t do it. Headtorch for winter and long run at weekends.

2. Kit for running every day: how many items of each do you have and how do you manage getting it clean between runs? Or do you not? I have a sweaty chest (nice, right) so I think I might just need more bras to rotate round.
I wear merino next to my skin (check the sales for icebreaker kit. It is the business if you’re a sweaty Betty as it never really gets stinky and can be rinsed in the sink and is dry by morning if it feels a bit too sweaty.). Bra/pants/socks fresh every run. Leggings/vest/jacket until they feel horrible (I kid myself that this is environmental consciousness not laziness).

3 miles on the beach at my in laws today. Sand running is a bugger on my Achilles’ tendons but it was so beautiful. The wind was also amazingly strong: 10 minute miles running into it and 8 minute miles with it behind me, for what felt like the same effort!

DomesticAnarchist · 01/01/2019 21:53

Thanks Fate and Verbena. I'm going back to evening running tomorrow/Wednesday!

CalmConfident · 01/01/2019 21:59

Off to a good start with parkrun this morning, spotted quite a few RED t shirts there today

LastOneDancing · 01/01/2019 23:12

2 miles done this evening.

I have had to run the last 3 days too as I was only 11miles off a round number on Strava 😂 so this is day 4 of my run streak.

AuntieStella · 01/01/2019 23:21

I did a Parkrun double this morning, and saw quite a few RED t-shirts as well.

StewardsEnquiry · 02/01/2019 12:32

OMG! Anyone else aching like mad today? I can barely stand up my thighs are complaining so much. No idea how I am going to get out this evening... just for 2km I'm thinking.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 02/01/2019 12:34

I think my RED pack is at the Post Office waiting for me so I need to pull my finger out today x

IRun4Me · 02/01/2019 19:34

2 out of 2 done. Hoping I can keep it up.
Hope the thighs are a bit better Stewards

FATEdestiny · 02/01/2019 20:26

Day 2: 13km run
Monthly total: 23km

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 02/01/2019 22:02

Did 1.4km today.

From little acorns..... Wink

Lovely crisp cool 5k tonight mainly to have half hour away from the bickering kids, the minute DH came home I was ready to escape Grin. But I was home in time for bedtime stories.

DomesticAnarchist · 02/01/2019 22:30

Well done all!

I did a little 2.5k. Not mega, but I ran!

CalmConfident · 02/01/2019 22:31

I ran to collect the takeaway...

AuntieStella · 02/01/2019 22:34

Gentle 'rest' run today

EdithDickie · 02/01/2019 22:37

Day 2 done. Cliff path walk, exercise bike and then 1 mile run (very unpleasant as overfull stomach from tidying up the leftovers from Christmas oops).

Well done everyone!

BrassicaBabe · 02/01/2019 23:36

A box ticking 1k treadmill run for me today.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 03/01/2019 07:31

2 miles done yesterday. Hoping for 4 or more today.

StewardsEnquiry · 03/01/2019 08:53

I managed 3km last night and will be doing a short run again today (about 2.5km I think) during the afternoon. My legs feel a bit better thanks, IRun!

I'm feeling a bit more 'together' already though - I have done some decluttering and been sleeping well. Exercise is really good for me... I know this! I just have to DO IT BlushGrin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 03/01/2019 09:02

The first chance I get today to pop out another box ticking 1k will be after 9 tonight.

If I manage that I will literally feel like I’ve achieved an Olympic Gold.

OP posts:
LastOneDancing · 03/01/2019 10:17

Forgot to update last night, but 4 miles done before tea.

I do love that RED gets me very quickly back into the running habit. I was putting together my list of races for 2019 last night, very exciting!

RED miles: 6.1
73.9 miles to go.

IRun4Me · 03/01/2019 10:48

Well done everyone. Each small run is an achievement and it doesn’t matter how far.
That did make me laugh Calmconfident that sounds like my idea of running.
Day 3 done. Just did a short interval run with the dog and also managed to persuade DS to come. Think the dog will be hiding next time I put my running gear on Grin

AuntieStella · 03/01/2019 13:33

Day 3 done, as I ran when I was going out on an errand anyhow (not a takeaway, but I like your style!)

And my Strava total for the month stands at a pleasing 13.1 miles
