After doing this in 2018 a new thread for new folk to join the 2019 challenge. Pick your target, log your miles and see what you can achieve whilst encouraging each other Smile Anyone want to join me?

Not been back to the thread for a while, but I did 16km run today (longest distance since DC, and my oldest is 12 this year...)

483 done, 517 to go and I've now got a good 3 weeks ahead of target which will allow for summer holidays.

35.05 miles of walking done this week! Not my best by a long shot.

836.48/663.52

This week is my last week of maternity leave so it needs to be a good week! I'm aiming for around 50 miles this week to give me some leeway once I'm back at work.

TriSkiRun99 · 27/05/2019 10:18

Great walking Amy hope the return to work goes ok, it never easy adjusting to different routine again. I really missed the freedom of walking every day when I was off with my 2nd. Eldest had just started school so we walked everywhere I loved it. I was at my slimmest too 😩as had lots of time to plan healthy meals and little stress just the kids to focus on.
I need to get a run in but we ended up doing 5hrs of gardening yesterday was has left me nursing a achy back so not sure I’ll run today as I still have more gardening to tackle..

Well done bear. My poor DDs I just said come on we’ve doing this charity run and off we went (it was 5k) they both did it Grin it took a mix of walk run with jelly babies. This was before ParkRun set up near us, but now they do one a month with zero other running but other exercise instead. Hope your DD enjoyed her run.
I left everyone in bed this morning for a 6am, 5k squeezed in before DH went to work. Hoping I can do the same again next 2xmorn or I’ll miss my target this month!

Did it another 6am 5k it was abit drizzly rain but lovely and fresh. Legs of lead after a weights session yesterday. I’m trying out some new strength stuff as it got rather neglected running up to the Triathlon. Hope to run 10k tom morning to hit my May target, as we are away all weekend and unless I be a ParkRun tourist (which my kids groaned at when I mentioned it 😂) there might not be any running. We are taking the bikes with us though so should get a shortish cycle in each day.

End of may stats

Total 764k
May total 152.5
Daily average (May) 4.91 /day
Average (year) 5.05/day

So May was slightly under average, although I did pull it back in the end. It was a tricky start as I had a bit of a motivation wobble after my race. I've made some dietary changes this month, particularly cutting back almost entirely on sugar (eg. 4 full weeks sugar free out of the last 5) and that has made some noticeable difference to my physique/muscle tone but the initial few weeks really did affect my running performance. I'm about to embark on quite a strict 6 week alcohol free, low carb, no sugar plan with Dh so I'm going to record measurements this time.

TriSkiRun99 · 01/06/2019 11:36

bear Does the very low carb not effect your energy levels for exercise? I’ve tried it before and just couldn’t function very well I think some body types do better than others. My DH can easily function on meat, very little carbs or little veg (like my eldest DD, where as my younger DD has a metabolism like mine - it’s fascinating the genetics link I think..) 🙄me I need a balance, but I do need to reduce the sugar as I’m battling peri menopause which has been particularly bad this month Sad alas I’m full of head cold so no ParkRun tourism for me which was a shame as it looked a lovely one through grounds of NT estate. I won’t run now prob till Monday when hopefully cold may have eased & kids back at school.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/06/2019 11:56

Tri there's pros and cons to it. The sugar free makes no difference at all, I suppose because it's never healthy food so not eating it can only have positive effects really. The general low carb (eg no potato, rice, pasta etc) yes, it does affect me a bit. I do still eat some carbs (about 50g a day) and I do still eat them if I'm training for a race (and used gels during the race etc). I've been on holiday this last week so things have crept back in so I expect to have a difficult week while I detox again!

47.34 miles of walking done this week. Happy with that, I've walked into town 3 times this week as my little boy has had his settling sessions at nursery.

How does being sugar free work @thenewaverage do you still eat fruit and stuff or is it just processed sugar you avoid?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/06/2019 06:44

Hi amy, I follow this plan:

Blood sugar diet and Fast800 thread 15 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3593022-blood-sugar-diet-and-fast800-thread-15

which is basically no bread, pasta, rice, grains, or sugar (or sugar in its many forms such as honey, maltose etc,) and as a result, fruit is limited to low fructose things like berries, apples etc. I do find though that limiting fruit actually really helps cut my cravings for other sugary things; I'm very fructose sensitive I think.

Zero exercise for me as really struggling with this “cold/virus” had eldest DD off school 2days as well with it. Can’t even motivate myself to do some yoga, keep telling myself the olde mumsnet mantra “this too shall pass..” been reading up on all the healthy food and exercise I should be doing (whilst eating smarties Blush) grrrr hopefully I can get running again soon as not ran since Thursday last week.

TriSkiRun99 · 04/06/2019 14:30

Should add the cycling from our wend away though, about 16m / 25km in total as with the kids.
