After doing this in 2018 a new thread for new folk to join the 2019 challenge. Pick your target, log your miles and see what you can achieve whilst encouraging each other Smile Anyone want to join me?

Can I join? 1000km sounds great.

Please Can I join too? I'm going to do combo of run and walk, and start with 0-5k. How does everyone stay motivated though? I know me too well, I'll start with good intentions but by March I will have slobed back to my old ways Blush is there a 'virtual kick up the bum' appGrin?

Sagethyme I signed up to do a run with a medal every month. Mostly small, friendly 5k or 10k runs, race for life etc. I also treated myself to a medal hanger with a hook for each month - I love some race bling so it kept me motivated. Every time I stopped running for a 2-3 weeks I'd have another race which got me back into it. I got to know quite a few runners joggers from my town by chatting to them at races too which has been lovely. You don't need to do a race a month but doing the odd event is a great way to stay motivated. I was nervous before my first but runners are the friendliest bunch of people.

Count me in too please! Although one of my New Years resolutions was supposed to be giving up Mumsnet! I waste so much time on here.

I want to walk 1000 miles this year. I may start C25K at some stage but not till I lose more weight.

I completely severed my Achilles this year and have been recovering so I'm up for attempting to walk 1000m (slowly!). I've done about 3 miles a day over the Christmas break so I know it's doable... Would love to join.

Oh hai @Peridot ! I will be one of the walkers too - due to a few health reasons I can’t run much but want to build up to it again later in the year.

I think I'll do 500 miles, it seems realistic given that I know I'll be very limited after ac section again!
I'm a walker too peridot, I can't run or cycle for health reasons which I find very frustrating but it's not worth the pain! So walking out has always been!

I'd like to do 1000 miles of walking/running combo. Am doing the coast to coast in the summer so that will nicely take care of 200 miles!

Hi can I put myself down for 500 miles of running this year? I already walk everywhere so don't really want the extra hassle of logging that!! But I am hoping to start running again and do a half marathon in September. Just need to shake this chesty cough before I start!!

2pointfourmonkeys · 30/12/2018 09:56

I felt like i did loads last year, even trained for my first half marathon. But strava says i only managed 385km 😩

I'd like to do more cycling this year so perhaps 1000km combined is achievable.

Count me in please 1000miles in 2019 is my mission... had a bad shoulder injury two years ago and after long recovery after an op on it I'm feeling like I need a challenge to get me back into the game!

Count me in for 1000 km.
It works out at about 20km in a week. I run and swim, so I need 20km of that combined.
‘My’ pool is 33m, so 30 lenghts would give me 1km.
I run 3 times a week, but i’ve been doing 3-4km, so I need to push myself a bit more there.
I walk about 5km a day anyway.
All I need is consistency.
Right. It’s a plan.

I was just thinking about this earlier today. I hate running but love walking. I’m going to walk 500 miles (in 2020 I’ll walk 500 more)

Ok I've made a commitment and bought a pedometer today in preparation for tomorrow! Have gone almost nowhere today so will aim to start well with a welly boot walk tomorrow. Happy new year all!

Right getting in first with my 5k park run. Feels good to get started! First ever park run and I was super slow but who cares. I have a target now to beat! Shall blame the heat- better running when it is cold and it was 20 degrees

Just ran/walked 2.8km with my nearly 11 year old. The weather was already warming up.

I think I started the 2018 one! ( but failed miserably around March). I do aim to pick it back up for 2019.

My aim is to run 100km per month
