Exercise every day 2018

Anyone up for tracking some exercise every day in 2018?

I currently do yoga and bootcamp classes at the gym and stopped running in September due to an injury (but not injured any more!)

I don't drive so walk everywhere. I wouldn't count walking as exercise unless I went further/faster on purpose, but willing to count say 20 mins easy yoga so that I don't burn out with intense exercise every day.

I'm hoping the streak will appeal to the my obsessive nature and mean that I push myself to do more this year.

Anyone else up for it? Grin

Day 5/365 done. Woo hoo!
I am not usually a woo hoo person but I feel like it today Grin.

I woke up at 4am raring to go and debated getting up to exercise (I should have). Instead I went back to sleep and woke up very groggy at 8.30am. Lesson learned.

It was very hard to motivate myself. It's very hot, I was still comatose and we have a houseguest so I can't disappear to the gym. If it wasn't for this streak I wouldn't have exercised at all. Grateful!

Instead I did this 30 minute dance and tone video:

I'm so glad I did it. Got 3000 steps in. Must remember I will never regret a workout!

Hope your DS is better Sub
How fortunate to have an inspiring neighbour ChemicalKev. Mine is lovely but always wants us to have a beer with him. Can't walk past without an invitation! It's lovely but I only have to LOOK at a beer to put on five kilos, straight to my tummy.

chemicalkevsmoped · 05/01/2018 06:22

qinoa your neighbour does sound like fun though........
I am just having a coffee and psyching myself up for the daily plank. I also have a run scheduled at lunchtime with my aforementioned neighbour Smile

Bestbees · 05/01/2018 08:02

Amazing work everyone. Hopefully this thread will inspire us to do something, even a walk around the block or 10 sit ups is better than nothing.

4/365 swim and 1 hour of yoga. Aching a bit today which i am pleased about as i am doing something! Bought a book of gym classes (12 for the price of 10) to trial some new things.

Todays plan: run and yoga. Weekend plan to keep up yoga and add in a run and a youtube video workout.

Happy exercising!

QuinoaKeen · 05/01/2018 11:20

chemicalkev Following your lead, I just planked for one minute ten seconds. I have to say planking looks a lot easier than it feels. That was intense!

Wishingandwaiting · 05/01/2018 14:04

1 hour phenomenal cardio mix class

dressinblack · 05/01/2018 16:10

I did sub, 30 minutes bike 20 kettle bells and 20 yoga!

I've also done my daily bike this afternoon and then I think it's kettle bells and yoga again tonight with DF

Well done everyone keep it up!!

Luckingfovely · 05/01/2018 18:35

Ran/walked a mile, and half an hour yoga. Still getting over flu so building up slowly, but starting to enjoy it Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2018 20:09

Well done everyone.

Done 4 mile bike ride today. 25 mins fast walking on treadmill with incline up and an hour of bodypump.

Submariner · 05/01/2018 22:11

I wish I had your neighbour Chemical - I need the discipline! When you do your morning plank do you try and do it for longer each time or do any variations or anything? I might do it tomorrow before bootcamp.

I must admit I love that achy feeling Best, I always wonder if super fit people get that too, and also wondered if we will ache for a whole year if we exercise every day!

Glad to hear you got your workout in Dress and still enjoying reading everyone's efforts.

Day 5/365 done today - planned to go running but had no child free time in the day so just been to the gym. I did 20 mins cross trainer, a few machines and 10 mins cycling. Felt pretty uninspired. What do all you other gym-goers do? I feel like I need a plan for when I work out on my own but I find it mind boggling to just Google beginner workouts - I can never decide what to go for.

I tend to do free weights in the gym when not doing a class or treadmill session.

So chest press and pec raises with dumbbells, also tricep extensions and bicep curls with dumbbells. Use the assisted pull up machine, the leg press, do some walking weighted lunges, trap shrugs with dumbells, the back extension machine, sit ups and crunches, some deadlifts. Takes about an hour. And I’d normally also do a bit of cardio on top of that.

I follow a few gym goers on instagram, just search for #gymvideos and get ideas.

QuinoaKeen · 05/01/2018 22:57

Do you have a playlist Sub?
I find working out with my music at the gym keeps me motivated. It features a lot of 80s and 90s pop Blush.
If I forget my headphones and I'm stuck listening to the gym music I'm utterly bored.

QuinoaKeen · 06/01/2018 09:44

Day 6/365 I went for a hike! 7000 steps - half uphill. Was terrific. Wouldn't want to do it every day mind you.
Off for a rest now.

Bestbees · 06/01/2018 10:30

Ran 4k yesterday in 30 mins, not great but ok as that included 5 min warn up and cool dow walk. Yoga too.

Today rest day ish so just yoga. Muscles aching but good!

Submariner · 06/01/2018 11:09

Thanks Viva, do you set goals, like doing more weight or more reps over time or do you just do what feels right on the day? My problem is I don't know what I'm aiming for so I don't seem to end up working very hard.

I do need to get some headphones Quinoa, but although I wouldn't listen to the gym music by choice, I do find it gets me in the zone.

Day 6/365 done. Bootcamp class at the gym. I love it, it's really tough but so so fun and I can feel my strength and technique improving every time. She doesn't include a cool down though so came straight home and did Day 3 of Adriene, which was called Stretch, quite aptly!

I try and up the dumbbell weights every 3 weeks. But sometimes its a struggle and I go back down. I probably only do free weights once or twice a week. I push myself more in bodypump as am quite competitive so will prefer a pump class over doing my own thing.

Done a slow 5k run this morning and about 20 mins of weights before giving up in disgust as gym was so busy. Roll on Feb!

Wishingandwaiting · 06/01/2018 13:14

45 min body attack
1 hour body pump

Wishingandwaiting · 06/01/2018 13:15

Re aching question.

No, you won’t.

I have exercised very regularly for last 4 years. Initially achy but now very very rarely.

SophieLion · 06/01/2018 14:06

Hi everyone, I'm on another 2018 exercise thread but been following your one too - it all helps motivation! I'm aiming to exercise 5/6 days a week, not every day as not sure I can manage that.

I posted a question on the other thread but not sure there is much traffic there so wondering if any of you can help:

Can I ask you (or anyone else) about eating please? You say that exercise makes you feel energised (as it should!) but I often find, especially after running, that I feel wrecked and I'm suspecting it's because I'm not eating enough or not eating the right type of "fuel". From your experience, do you suggest particular foods before and after exercise (carbs? Protein?). I do eat after so thinking the before part isn't quite right. Thanks

dressinblack · 06/01/2018 21:01

Well done everyone!! Another day done :)
4 mile mixed terrain hike, kettlebells and yoga later.
I'm a little disheartened because my weight is a little up. I've been weighing daily to get an average.

QuinoaKeen · 07/01/2018 08:56

Day 7/365 done. I managed just over an hour in the gym before getting a phone call to pick up my youngest child.
Only got in a 30 minute cycle, 2K run and a few weights before I had to leave. Still, it is the day of rest I suppose...

WeAreGerbil · 07/01/2018 09:43

Can I join? I've been doing Yoga with Adriene every day and a gym workout in addition yesterday. I was recovering from a cold first few days, but ready to start back. My aim is 45 mins cardio x 3 times a week, yoga most days and weights 2x. I used to be a runner but now too injured, so I gym and swim for cardio. I want to start adding in dance classes - they are good for your brain and coordination (I'm having to think about ageing!) but my local gym doesn't do them so the YouTube link above will be useful. My DD also wants to go to the gym so we are going to have a regular Wednesday date, which hopefully should help.

Wishingandwaiting · 07/01/2018 11:47

45 min cardio
20 mins skillmill
30 min grit strength

Can I ask... does anyone struggle with rest days? I know it is adviser to have rest days but I struggle mentally with them. Working out sets me up for the day, when I don’t do it or do something like gentle yoga, I feel a bit antsy all day.

Anyone else?

Luckingfovely · 07/01/2018 14:44

Wishing yes, if I'm in the zone, I need to do something everyday. Otherwise I don't feel right. At the moment it's a mixture of running / walking / yoga / fitness dvd to deliver more or less as I need and allow for some harder days and easier days. Today - 3k run/walk, and Yoga with Adriene later.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/01/2018 16:02

30 min uphill run today followed by 30 mins of weights.

dressinblack · 07/01/2018 19:10

Another day done.
3 hour hike and about to do 'couples kettle bells and yoga' which seems to have become our evening norm when DS is in bed!
