Exercise every day 2018

Anyone up for tracking some exercise every day in 2018?

I currently do yoga and bootcamp classes at the gym and stopped running in September due to an injury (but not injured any more!)

I don't drive so walk everywhere. I wouldn't count walking as exercise unless I went further/faster on purpose, but willing to count say 20 mins easy yoga so that I don't burn out with intense exercise every day.

I'm hoping the streak will appeal to the my obsessive nature and mean that I push myself to do more this year.

Anyone else up for it? Grin

Thanks Wishing, that's interesting re aching. I would call myself a fairly fit person but strength training definitely leaves me sore for a long time. It will be interesting to see how that plays out over the year.

Hi Sophie, what time do you exercise and how far do you run? If I'm exercising early in the morning I will eat something like a banana, but otherwise I just eat my normal meals through the day. I try not to exercise until an hour after a big meal. If I'm running for more than an hour I snack on nuts, raisins or chocolate on the way and find that really helps. I do get ravenous after exercise, but try to have something high in protein if I can. I'm not trying to lose weight though, so if I feel hungry I am happy to indulge. I find though that it's really personal. If you think you need some more fuel before/during runs I would experiment and see what suits your system.

Hi Gerbil, I am trying to add in classes that challenge my coordination and speed too, and yes I've heard they're good for your brain. I certainly hope so!

Wishing, I find that exercise breeds motivation for me. Once I get those endorphins I can't wait for the next workout. I'm hoping that's what will keep me going through the year.

Day 7/365 done. I don't think I've ever exercised every day for a week before, so that's a milestone! Gym today - took some instructions for strength training and did some cardio too. I wrote down everything I did so I can improve on it next week.

Aww, dress the image of couples kettlebells sounds really sweet for some reason!

I think the idea is cute sub but when you have a mix of each other sweat over the kettle bells it probably loses all of its romance Grin

I managed days 2-7 this week. Nothing as intense as I'm seeing on here, but walking, a pregnancy workout on YouTube and a 5k walk at home sesh also from YouTube. I've never really tried Yoga, but think it might be good to pick up, might help with mental prep for labour.

This week, Mon - Thurs I'll be walking instead of bus again. Friday will try Yoga (with the help of YT) Saturday and Sunday, will try and get out to the marshes with my lb and his buggy.

Good luck for days 8-14 all!

8/365 done. Just over an hour at the gym, half cardio, half weights.

8/365 also. I've just done 45 mins cardio at the gym. I am trying out exercising before work - I'd got into the habit of being at my desk at 8.30 then exercising later in the day, but I am also trying to not be so work focused so morning exercising hits two targets.

Snap Gerbil. I'm going to try to introduce morning exercising when I'm back at work too.
How are you finding it? Do you feel tired during the day?
I've enrolled to do further study this year and planning to do the work at night, which only leaves early morning for exercise. I'm just hoping I don't feel shattered by mid-afternoon.

I am a bit tired now (working at home, just come to lie on bed!) but I don't think I'm any more tired than usual without the exercising. I used to exercise mainly in the morning and I do remember getting tired later in the day, but I've eaten fairly well (breakfast after exercising) so hopefully that's helped.

I don't want to be a party pooper here, as I'm in awe of your enthusiasm everyone, but rest is a vital part of the training process as that's when the body tissue broken down during training repairs itself. Personally I'd recommend 1-2 rest days a week to make sure you keep healthy and avoid injury. Good luck on your fitness journeys!

Good point, I think most people are mixing it up, e.g. with yoga and walks for less intense days.

Definitely. I wouldn’t run every day. But one day running, couple of easyish bike rides, a pump class, an aqua class, a core class, some free weights, long walk. That sort of spread for me in a week is pretty much what I do and doesn’t seem to cause issues.

8/365 run and yoga. Feel good for it if tired!

Well done Mango, sounds like you're doing more than plenty! Do you have a pregnancy yoga class near you? I found it really useful for making sure I was doing the postures right at first and hopefully meeting some local mums.

Aire - I'm quite active normally, I walk everywhere regardless of exercise so the one or two days a week where I just do a yoga practice definitely feel like plenty of rest for me. Obviously it's for each person to decide what 'counts' as exercise for them, but I find my muscles tell me when to take it easy and when to go hard. I just find that being in the mindset of doing a little bit of something every day stops me from putting off exercising for days on end and never actually getting round to it.

Day 8/365 today. Yoga class. Was really glad of the kick up the bum to go. Got home late from work and would normally have cancelled, but made it to the mat and felt much better for it.

Some guidelines here: www.nhs.uk/Livewell/fitness/Pages/physical-activity-guidelines-for-adults.aspx

Recommends being active every day and breaks down some different ways you could structure your week of exercise.

I remember reading this recently and noticing that they now include a recommendation for strength training a couple of times a week too. That was part of my reasoning for trying some weights/more intense classes.

8/365 done.
Only couples kettle bells and abs tonight. I hurt my lower abdo attempting my first burpee in 3 years (missed the mat entirely and slipped) so I've skipped adrienes yoga for tonight and ate chocolate buttons instead, I'm a nob!
Straight back on it in the morning for a 6am 30 minute bike ride.
Today's victory was going up a weight on biceps though 💪🏼

Hi SubMariner,
Thanks for responding to my question. Normally I exercise in the morning straight after school drop-off and often I don't have time to eat much beforehand because it's so hectic trying to get all the DCs ready and out the door! However I've also experienced this exhaustion when I've had a proper breakfast and run a few hours later.

If I run (run a couple of times a week) then I do 7km usually at a relatively good pace (takes me about 40 mins). I also do Jillian DVDs, some tennis and dance lessons. I like to mix it up so I don't get bored! Like you, I'm not trying to lose weight. Never thought of snacking whilst running but maybe I should try it!

I think you're right that it's very personal as to how much one needs to eat. Yesterday I managed to talk to a personal trainer and he said I definitely need to eat more. He said some carbs 1-1.5 hours before exercise (I think that was the time frame he said anyway- memory like a sieve sometimes!) and then protein and carbs within 30mins-1/1.5 hours after exercise. Going to try and see. Yesterday after almost an hour of Jillian strength training, cool down and shower, was so energy depleted that I could barely speak!

I think Aire makes a valid point about rest days but like others have said, it depends on what one classes as exercise. On a rest day I wouldn't do one of my runs or an exercise DVD but a long walk or family bike ride would be fine for me. I think we're all different.

Day 9/365 done.

Did an hour in a very busy gym. Half cardio, half weights.
There needs to be a compulsory deodorant rule at the gym. Was very bad today Angry and we ended up leaving early. It really was that bad.

Yeah I had someone really smelly get on an exercise bike near me last week. It's annoying when you have to move mid programme.

I'm yet to exercise today - my final assignment for the semester is due tomorrow but I have now submitted!
I'm training alone tonight as DF is at rugby training so I'm going to look for something different than what we normally do.
I have signed up for a trial at DS's jiu jitsu club on Monday and have signed up for the inflatable 5k fun run in may so the intentions are there at least!

Exciting plans dress! I'm also yet to exercise today. I don't think I'll go to the gym but I have an app called 30 Day Fitness Challenge that has some basic bodyweight exercises in it so I'll try that out at home.

I love fitness apps sub, we are following a couple at the moment.

I attempted Zumba for a mix up - it is definitely not for me Blush
I've also done 20 minutes bum and legs.
I really hurt my belly yesterday when I slipped, I tried to do abs today and it was excruciating.
Enjoy your workout everyone!
