Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

I had a great run this am. I ran 4 miles and knocked 4 minutes off this year's pb!

Im concentrating on speed now. Without the pressure of an impending hm. I stopped a couple of times this am to catchaikovsky my breath but whereas in my training I was aiming for distance over speed I'm now aiming for speed over distance until hopefully I can maintain higher speeds for a further distance. My legs will hurt tomorrow! But I can't run until Tuesday now anyway.

I'm hoping I burnt a few calories as I've put loads on with no sign of self discipline. I've had a cheeseburger and wine hangover today HmmGrin

minesapintofwine · 06/10/2017 11:06

Clearly I'm turning Russian.

minesapintofwine · 06/10/2017 11:06

Catchaikovsky =catch obviously Grin

Great run mines/comrade. You've motivated me for tomorrow's park run.

Purplerunner · 06/10/2017 20:55

Well done on your speedy run mines

Good luck 2012

Had my first post HM run this morning, wasn't too painful Smile

mammymammyIRL · 07/10/2017 00:58

Hrh prawns & 0% fat Greek yogurt have to be my best sources of protein! There are lots of veggie sources like chickpeas/butter beans/lentils/tuna too. I do eat a good bit of chicken though but I always have because I like it.

Pint that's fantastic about your PB. I'm hoping to work on speed now too. The running group I go with have started sprints to improve theirs while I was absent for past three weeks so I'll get stuck in on Monday night.

@2012860363 Best of luck for your half, we're all routing for you.

I'm in from a post wedding celebration where I'd 4 diet cokes as I was driving, I'd love to go for a run now!!!

Well done purple my first run will be Monday 3 weeks after half marathon Confused

minesapintofwine · 07/10/2017 20:30

Good luck user and everyone else running tomorrow. You've got this!

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/10/2017 22:11

Good luck to tomorrow’s runners!

rosettesforjill · 08/10/2017 20:25

Just popping back to say I did it! Respectable 2h16 - would have liked to have done it faster but I’ve been suffering with a terrible cough so it was achievement to even get to the start really! Only walked for a couple of seconds to open my Frusli. Feeling totally destroyed now and looking forward to a nice long soak

minesapintofwine · 08/10/2017 20:43

Well done rosettes awesome time too. You enjoy the down time now! Star

HRHPrincessMegan · 08/10/2017 21:17

Well done rosettes!

rosettesforjill · 08/10/2017 21:31

Thank you! Enjoying a dirty curry for the first time in months to celebrate Grin

mammymammyIRL · 09/10/2017 06:11

Well done rosettes

HRHPrincessMegan · 09/10/2017 10:32

Dusted down my trainers this week end and did a park run on Saturday and joined my DS for the junior one on Sunday. It’s was my first run since HM so I really went for it and got a new PB of 25.20.

I haven’t registered for another HM yet. I want to keep my running fitness ticking over until I sign up for the next one but am unsure as to how many miles a week I should be doing to achieve this. What do you all recommend?

TriGirl007 · 09/10/2017 17:52

Well done rosettes

I did my “long” training run early Sunday morn sunrise with moon setting. 8.5 miles my longest yet but started to really feel it in my legs & hips. Had good sports massage today but she thinks I’m slightly rotating on my left leg which is starting to irritate the knee. She’s asked for a video of me running to see if we can work out what I’m doing. I really want to avoid injury. Anyone got any good hip flexor strengthen exercises?

Abra1d · 09/10/2017 17:53

CongratsRosettes!

minesapintofwine · 10/10/2017 12:39

hrh well done on an amazing pb!

Regarding mileage. I'm looking to do the next hm at the end of March. I'm going to do my weekly long runs between 10-16km and push them up again from January. Hopefully doing longer distances will make it a bit easier this time Grin

I did 10k this am. I'm really pushing myself hard and as a result I do walk a little but I don't mind I want to increase my stamina for a good pace. My legs and lungs feel it but I am doing lots of stretching. Hopefully things will become a little easier and I'll start to run comfortably at a faster pace. Im going to start sprint work again this Friday previously that has helped.

Despite doing a lot of Pilates and bodypump things over the last few years and hoping this would support my running and choosing a run-walk training programme, I keep injuring my right calf muscle. My HM is less than seven weeks away. I may be spending a lot of the training runs on a bike or elliptical I think. The HM is for a charity in memory of a friend who died so I have to do it.

HRHPrincessMegan · 10/10/2017 20:04

Good plan mines. A 10km - 16km weekly long run sounds good to me. I’m going to keep doing the park runs too and I should probably fit in a couple of boot camps. I really don’t want to commit to more at the moment - I found my pre-HM running schedule really tedious towards the end! Well done on your 10km run - I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get some miles in too!

Well done on your 8.5miles tri. I was told at a sports massage that my entire torso was rotated! I started back at Pilates to balance out again. I’ve no idea if it’s worked but my posture is improving.

abra - you poor thing. Have you seen a physio? 7 weeks is plenty of time to get things straight if you were fit - and by the sound of it you were - before you started training for the HM. I followed a 9 week HM program - I hadn’t run for more than 4 years prior to this but I did do Pilates and boot camps.

Abra1d · 10/10/2017 20:17

HRH thanks. I am trying to see a physio. And hoping I can keep my fitness up and just go for it on the day without as many running miles as I had planned.

Swimming tomorrow. My least favourite activity 😬

shortaris1 · 11/10/2017 07:24

Abra I don't hate the swimming itself, just the wet cossie and coming home damp and chloriney. I have REALLY dry skin and live close to the pool so I just quickly dry off there then come home and shower properly and slather myself in greasy cream! The pool showers are communal with blokes so I wouldn't be able to have a proper shower in them anyway.

Well done on the runs and PB's.

STILL not able to land on this bloody foot so been doing HIIT's on the bike to keep my fitness up.

Abra1d · 11/10/2017 08:06

we need our own pools, really! I am sure I would swim more if I could have my own 😚

TriGirl007 · 11/10/2017 08:54

Ooh I dream of my own pool - I’d share it with my sister who misses the outside 50m pools in OZ that she used to swim in. I do find swimming great X-training for running though and try to go the day after every long run which really helps my joints& muscles.

mammymammyIRL · 13/10/2017 05:47

Fallen off threads I'm on Hmm wonder why

LongtimeLurkerNowPokemonHunter · 13/10/2017 14:17

Well done everyone. I've got a half on Sunday. It's minging weather here so I haven't run since Glasgow half. Eek!
