Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

I raced. Can't tell you how I did because it will out me!
Not pleased with my performance at all, but I was in the first 25 women (3000 runners) and 3rd in my age category.
It was hard!

minesapintofwine · 24/09/2017 20:53

rights frickin awesome!

Cherrymix · 24/09/2017 22:40

Well done rights. That's brill.

I've been continuing my 3 times a week build up to actually starting to do proper training. Haven't bothered measuring distances yet - just increasing the time slowly.

Went to the gym for first time in ages and did a load of cycling and cross trainering plus some butt excercises.

Am def going to go more often - cross trainer is v good given my achy hips and machines more fun than lonely pelvic thrusts in my bedroom.

Still not decided which HM to aim for. Probably something next April is going to be realistic.

mammymammyIRL · 25/09/2017 06:03

Wow rights that's fantastic well done 👍🏼
Cherry well done, I hate the gym but it's meant to really help your running.

Welcome auntie a ten miler before Christmas sounds perfect, you could do a half before Christmas if you wanted, if weather doesn't affect your training.
Mine thanks for your sympathy, keeping well hydrated is very important. As for carbs, your muscles can hold on to glycogen for 48 hours so for a Sunday morning race you'd have a carby meal fri pm, sat morn & lunchtime & then on to lighter meals as you want them to have worked their way through your system before the race. But don't eat anything your body doesn't usually have. I've read race day isn't a day for firsts & that goes for trainers, food, clothing, gels etc
Hrh training is hard work too, those runs sound perfect for race week.

TriGirl007 · 25/09/2017 15:00

Woke up stuffed full of head cold which explains why I struggled abit yesterday Sad

Well done on the race rights sounds like a cracking time.

stella my furthest is 8miles so far and I've signed up for a early March HM too. Hoping I should be fine barring illness/injuries Smile

HRHPrincessMegan · 25/09/2017 17:12

Well done rights. What an amazing result.

It's countdown time for us mine. My diet has taken a serious hit since the beginning of this training process. I think I could comfortably beat any teenage boy to an eating contest. Not content with the added volume of food I've also said yes to every cake, biscuit, chocolate and carb that's crossed my path. And several that tried to avoid me. I will try to follow your pre-race eating tips mammy.

minesapintofwine · 25/09/2017 18:12

hrh that made me laugh! Same here and I know I've piled on the pounds over the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping to get back onto a diet after the hm but then...winter...and yummy stodgy food Hmm

mammy thanks for the tips.

tri get well soon.

minesapintofwine · 25/09/2017 18:13

This is going to make me sound thick but what's a carby breakfast?

TriGirl007 · 25/09/2017 18:39

Bread, porridge, hash browns, baked beans...all the things I've been avoiding lately! Grin

TriGirl007 · 25/09/2017 18:40

I've been lowish carbing so live off eggs, fruit, yogurt, nuts, seeds, bacon etc for breakie yum

minesapintofwine · 25/09/2017 18:46

Mmm hash browns yum Smile

shortaris1 · 25/09/2017 20:44

Well done rights that sounds great!

Managed a 10k tonight for the first time since my foot got sore! Slow but delighted.

Purplerunner · 25/09/2017 21:04

Well done rights (though don't understand how you weren't pleased?!) Awesome!

shortaris1 · 25/09/2017 21:23

Purple enjoy Glasgow. I'm hoping to come and cheer you all on!

rightsofwomen · 26/09/2017 11:13

Thank you purple. I do acknowledge that I placed well, but I did not perform as I wanted to. My pace was all over the shop, and I didn't recover after a long incline about 1/2 way through, and really struggled in the last few miles. I even took a gel at mile 9 which I don't usually need for a half and it didn't help at all.

I could run the same distance in the same time but feel that it has gone much, much better - it's not just the time it's so many other things. I do have high expectations of myself. I'll wallow for a bit and then move onto the next race (10K a week on Sunday).

minesapintofwine · 28/09/2017 18:34

So 3 more days to go and I've fallen into the trap of enjoying tapering too much 😂. I've been eating like an absolute 🐖 and drinking more wine than usual. I'm acting like I'm post half marathon not pre, with zero desire to discipline myself.

I have managed 2 runs this week which were OK but I felt a little tired. My question is-have I ruined months of hard work with my pure gluttony? Tell me no please!

rightsofwomen · 28/09/2017 18:39

Well no! Don't worry about the running, you've done the training, it's just about ticking over.
If you want to do as well as your training allows then yeah...lay off the gluttony! You'll be cross with yourself come Sunday. Not the end of the world, just adjust your expectations accordingly and don't give yourself a hard time. It's about enjoying yourself!

minesapintofwine · 28/09/2017 18:44

Thank you rights I know you know your stuff so I'm happy to hear you say that. I'll be good from now on or not

HRHPrincessMegan · 29/09/2017 07:28

Morning mines. I've definitely found tapering of runs easier than being disciplined on diet - Hmm can't imagine why?

I've mixed feelings about Sunday. I had started to look forward to it but forecast is for torrential rain. The wet roads are going to be challenging especially as there's 6 miles miles of hills. Also the last time I ran in the rain I had a major allergic reaction - I became covered in hives and my skin felt like it was burning. It could have been "acid rain" - I'm not sure, it doesn't seem to have happened to anyone I know. I've started taking antihistamines as a precaution.

minesapintofwine · 29/09/2017 08:29

hrh I'm peed off about the rain and wind forecast too. I usually run slower in the rain Hmm

Also I've told family and friends not to come if its pouring as it's not fair on them. Dh said he still will and probably my fil as my sil is doing it so at least there'll be someone definitely there which is nice.

25000 runners is going to overwhelm me but trying not to worry on that. Also there's free Prosecco Smile My friend who's done a few 10ks with me always sends me this on the day...

minesapintofwine · 29/09/2017 08:32

Lol

Wow - you're a much nicer person than I am. I don't care if there are hail stones the size of marbles falling out of the sky, I want all my people out there cheering me on and witnessing that I am actually running a HM.

minesapintofwine · 29/09/2017 09:32
Grin
minesapintofwine · 29/09/2017 09:43

Lol. Twice I tried to casually drop my planned hm into a conversation at the school gates this am but no one cared GrinSadBlush

rightsofwomen · 29/09/2017 10:30

We care pintof. Come and tell bore us!
