Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

Well done HRH that's a great time.

I managed a PW for Glasgow, not surprising given my lack of mileage over the summer due to injury combined with poor weather for the race. So a whole 8 minutes slower than last year at 2.12 this year. Last few miles were very hard, but am happy I made it round as a few weeks ago didn't even think I'd make the start line!

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 16:45

I did it! My experience. I ran the first 9 miles perfectly and my time was looking good, but after 10 miles I think my sports bra was too tight and I felt really sick. I kept seeing collapsed runners with paramedics and decided I just didn't want to push it to that stage,so I walked a lot until 12 miles. I finished in 2.48 but I didn't care I had a lovely time the atmosphere was fantastic I met loads of great people. I walked a bit with a girl that had torn her calf muscle at mile 1. She was in tears and had walked all the way to 12 miles. We were going to run the last mile together but she was in agony. She was aiming for sub 1.30 and ended up taking just over 3 hours. I was so proud of her! And my sil who finished in 2.05. She's been running a year and she said she cried all the way round with pride. So yes my time was slower than I wanted, yes I walked some, but I don't care I feel amazing super chuffed and had a great experience.

Well done to all who ran today hrh that time is awesome!

I'm going to sign up for another one at some point..

For now I'm glad it's over...

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 16:45

Well done purple

HRHPrincessMegan · 01/10/2017 17:03

Well done purple!

We can put our feet up for a day or 2.

Purplerunner · 01/10/2017 18:51

Minesapint well done. I had to stop and help a guy who was staggering all over the place at about 11 miles, I asked if he was okay and he obviously wasn't. Hate it when you see someone obviously unwell and I pointed a marshal in his direction.

My legs are pretty sore tonight, and there is quite a lot of chaffing. Never again (until the next one Grin)

HRHPrincessMegan · 01/10/2017 19:09

Well done *mines"! You should be be so proud to have kept going - sounds like it was really challenging towards the end.

The biggest surprise for me today (apart from how hard running a HM is) is how bloody decent HM runners are. People were really looking looking out for each other. And you mines completely embodied that spirit - you're a proper star.

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 19:45

Oh hrh that made me so humble thank you! Im nothing special! I knew that I wasn't going to get a fast time so just wanted to have a giggle with the other runners and felt so sorry for that girl I couldn't leave her and anyone would have done the same!

The spectators were awesome! One banner said 'we don't know any of you but we're proud of ALL of you' it brought a tear to my eye. Also so many inspirational runners one in a full suit of armour.

Loved it. I'm on a runners high lol.

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 19:47

purple I have an awful blister!! Didn't know I had it until I got in the bath. Ouch!

aaahhhBump · 01/10/2017 20:54

Best sign the bottom of the Kingston bridge.

"If you collapse in front of me I will pause your Garmin."

3 hours 2 minutes. I'm happy first and last. Think I'll stick to the 5 and 10ks for now.

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 21:16

aaahh well done you did it!! I know what you mean. Today I was very comfortable running the 10k mark but I've had more practice at that! Ill just have to practice the 13 miles more Grin

Another good sign I saw 'go random strangers' and 'you're doing well, big, steep hill coming up' yeah-thanks for that Hmm and an elderly lady sat outside a nursing home waving Welsh flags-she was fab. People are great aren't they?

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 21:27

Oh oh I just remembered something from today! My fucking tampon fell out of my pocket (I thought it was zipped up) and I had to chase it down the hill 🙈🙈🙈

Luckily no one seemed to notice,or were being polite Blush

Abra1d · 01/10/2017 21:44

Well done to all of you!

mammymammyIRL · 01/10/2017 22:00

This has fallen of TIO gotta catch up & find out how this weekends hm's went for everyone Grin

I haven't run since mine, I was sick, tomorrow I'll get out again.

Mines Grin at no one being interested in your hm how dare they Hmm

Welcome Halle love your username btw Grin

Hrh brilliant time, great race report. I blamed my hips getting sore at mile 9 on heels from previous day, maybe the 9 mile mark is a thing?

Purple took me a while to work out PWSad you did it & you weren't expecting to, it's still a great time.

Mines well done, that poor girl, why would you keep going? She must have been in agony.

That banner is class

aaahbump well done 👍🏼

minesapintofwine · 01/10/2017 22:02

mammy she was just so determined I keep thinking about her now.

Im glad you feel better get back out and enjoy it!

Purplerunner · 02/10/2017 07:01

mines am laughing at the tampon story Grin

And the pausing your Garmin sign. I missed that one, the final stretch along the Broomielaw was head down, shuffling along for me. Still plenty of supporters despite the poor weather.

I was in bed at 8.30 last night, totally wiped out.

Who's next? Are there some folk racing next week?

shortaris1 · 02/10/2017 07:29

Well done to all of you who raced yesterday. Especially in Glasgow. Lordy it was dreich .

I saw loads of it as I pootled along doing my 6 mile training run. I saw Jo Pavey whizz past me!

You're all amazing. My foot is in agony AGAIN so back to the osteo. So bored of this!

TriGirl007 · 02/10/2017 09:47

Lovely and inspiring reading your race tales I must be hormonal it made me teary, had flipping migraine for 36hrs so definitely hormonal!
I dragged my bum out Sat in the rain after week off with cold and did my fastest 5k Grin a week of cake n carbs worked. I'm supposed to be doing 12k today but I'm in McD eating breakfast carb loading whilst car has its MOT telling myself I can go run at noon it will clear my head.

minesapintofwine · 02/10/2017 13:53

Waves to tri and short well done on the runs.

I am rapidly going downhill. Went out for lunch as it's our wedding anniversary and had a glass of wine. I'm going home to bed for an hour whilst Dh picks dc up Blush but if I can't do it today when would I have another excuse? Plus my toe blister is really itching so going to soak it tonight. Bliss.

I've signed up for my next race!! 10k on the 5th Nov. Going to sign up for hm in March too. WhylikeamIfookingstupidorwhat

TriGirl007 · 02/10/2017 14:32

Did 12.5k Grin gave myself a talking to and took it nice and steady and was solid till last km as legs starting tiring but pleased I went out.
Enjoy the rest mines

mammymammyIRL · 02/10/2017 15:07

I would have acted oblivious to tampon escaping and pretended it wasn't mine, but I guess if you needed it!

LongtimeLurkerNowPokemonHunter · 02/10/2017 20:25

So I did it!

Ended up doing Glasgow yesterday, despite Birmingham in two weeks being the booked race.

Aimed for 2.30 and thought I'd run with the 2.20 pacer then drop back to the 2.30 one. Lost the pacer on the first hill Blush and somehow ran 2.10 (and it measured 13.3 on my watch!)

Have never run more than 10 miles so I'm chuffed. Started to feel it at mile 6 then mile 11-12 but did it!

Also ended up with my first sub 60 10k for the first 10k of the race!

minesapintofwine · 02/10/2017 21:03

Well done long! An amazing time and such an achievement.

I'm intrigued how you ended up running a different race though?

HRHPrincessMegan · 02/10/2017 22:01

Well done bump!

HRHPrincessMegan · 02/10/2017 22:06

Well done long!

I'm still hitting the chocolate like there's a HM tomorrow. Guess I better find one then....

minesapintofwine · 02/10/2017 22:18

hrh how are you feeling? My legs are getting stiff think tomorrow will be painful lol. I'm still really chuffed though and looking forward to getting back out running again (not until I can walk though!) so it must have been good. Definitely not the worst race I've ever had. The worst race haunted my dreams the night before the hm!
