Went to do my track session but they were cutting the grass so did intervals along the river path instead.

emummy · 04/08/2017 10:02

Loch Ness should be good, would like to do that one day.
Damp hilly forest run this morning, felt good except for the killer last hill!

Never mind cinnamon, smash it next time!
Didn't feel happy on my long run this morning, even in the sunshine and a nice country route. Bit of a slog but never mind, 12 miles done. Now to camp in front of the telly till the marathon in London comes on!

Nipping over from the HM marathon thread as I need help with pre race food!

I hate bananas with an absolute passion, but I need to find something I can eat before a run which is going to give me energy. At the moment I am just not getting the nutrition right Blush.

Marvellousmarg · 06/08/2017 15:24

Hi Gandolf. I'm not a banana person either. I like oatcakes and peanut butter.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/08/2017 21:51

I usually have breakfast and that's it so not much use I'm afraid sorry!

10k race today, 3 mins faster than my previous 10k so pleased with that! Still slower than last year but I expected that. I'm not in the results though so guessing my chip failed Sad they've had issues so posted an email address to contact so hopefully I'll be added. Fab finish photo though!

Realised we've been adding on to July so gone back and added since emummy's 1/8 post 99.8

For later races so have sometimes taken a box with granola & yoghurt in it which is my normal breakfast! Otherwise I have grapes or dried cranberries. Everyday runs I do in the morning about 40 minutes after breakfast. I hate bananas and nuts so those are out! And am coeliac so a lot of energy or muesli bars are no use and the ones I can have always seem to have nuts.

Marvellousmarg · 07/08/2017 17:39

Hill training this morning. 3 miles to add.

Just found this thread - can i join in?!

I have just started again slowly 2-3 runs a week but slowly but surely my training programme to kick off in October (still a work in progress devising it but i enjoy that bit too!) for Barcelona Marathon in March 18.

I did Paris which was my 1st ever marathon in April and loved loved every minute! I'dl love to do it in a better time (4h40) but we shall see how the training goes.

I also need to get some sort of hilly/cross country training in but that s not easy at all as i usually run in town/flat asphalt.. I love just getting up and getting dressed and just doing my run at 6am and not have to think about any of it, i have several routes i do in the week depending on time/distance..

This time two years ago i didnt run at all.. I feel like a different person!

Sorry about the ramble, just helps getting it out rather than boring people around me!

emummy · 08/08/2017 10:58

Welcome She! Barcelona sounds amazing! Glad you enjoyed Paris, it was quite warm this year wasn't it?
It is good to some hills; flights of steps can be useful if you live somewhere flat or you don't like off road. Good luck!

Marvellousmarg · 08/08/2017 14:15

Hi She

Barcelona will be amazing! and well done for Paris. What a fab time too.
Any top tips you can share? I'm attempting my first marathon in 7 weeks time...

I'm kind of regretting going for an autumn marathon as I find it easier to run in colder weather.

I'm an early morning runner too. Up, out and sorted for rest of the day 😀

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 08/08/2017 15:02

Thanks for the welcome :-)

I didnt think of flights of stairs - theres a river not too far from me with steps that i could / should?! try. I had a bit of an iffy knee this time last year when i started training for my 1st 1/2 marathon (Amsterdam - amazing!!) - insoles solved the problem but i'm still abit nervous that anything bouncy/jumping related will bring back the pain!

Not sure of any top tips - i always kept in mind something my boyfriend kept telling me when training got hard "hard dtraining - easy war" (in french has some oomph!) and i really really kept that it in my mind on race day, it reassured me waiting in the pen and i knew i had given it my all so it was just a case of just fucking doing it!! That was my life for 4 months!
Am i the only one who repeats a mantra when it gets tough?!

Paris was extra hot i thought - i got sunburnt shoulders that took a while to catch up the rest of my tan early spring Grin

I know what you mean running in the warm weather - i love the cold when it hits your lungs and takes your first breath away in winter! I hope Barcelona wont be too warm in March.

I found a New Years day race starting at midnight in Zurich which sounds amzing but perhaps logistically not so doable with 2 children and life not being practical.. one day, maybe!

emummy · 09/08/2017 10:10

Track session this morning, went well.
Marvellousmarg hopefully the weather for your race will be cooler though and then it will feel a bit easier after all the hot weather running. The thing with a spring marathon is that you do all your training in the winter - I did a run in 3in of snow this year- and then if the race day is warm you are totally unprepared! Brighton this year in early April was 26 degrees! I think autumn training for a winter marathon might be the way to go! Saying that, I am hoping to do the Orkney marathon at the start of July next year, banking on Orkney not being hot!
