16°at 6am : did 5 km with last 2k strong - great temp, hadnt had it so cool for weeks here, felt great.

When you do a track session emummy - what exactly do you aim for ? Laps with times for a certain length / distance?

emummy · 09/08/2017 13:24

I got it from a book otherwise I wouldn't know what to do either! The times are based on your 5k time, and then it's put in a training programme. Today was 2x 1.2k (so 3 laps), taking 6 mins 28 each time, then 4 x 800m each taking 4:30 ish. Have never done track sessions before this and I find I actually quite enjoy them - you can see how far you have to go, instead of doing intervals where I spend the whole time desperately waiting for my watch to buzz and put me out of my misery!

MyBlackCat · 09/08/2017 13:38

I'm on holiday at the moment and have only managed a couple of runs so far. I did Holkham parkrun on Saturday and ran there and back then got out again on Monday. I hope to run this afternoon but it's monsoon conditions at the moment Sad I don't mind a bit of rain but this is something else Shock

Nice to see some new people on the thread Smile

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 09/08/2017 13:53

Aha i see what you mean about the mystery distance/time ratio!! and wishing your watch will put you out of your misery! 4 x 800m at 4"30 ish would probably kill me today! I try and do a strong finish or 1/2 way at around 5'35-45 - i'll get there, eventually!
When doing my longer runs last winter / spring i turned my watch around / buzz off and wouldn't bother looking at it as sometimes it just puts me off !

MyBlackCat · 09/08/2017 17:58

Made it out Smile rain stopped but it was very breezy!

Love "hard training, easy war " she
My mantra is usually "keep going"!

Interval training this morning. Does it matter if you walk or run In between?

4.2 to add so 134.2

Marvellousmarg · 09/08/2017 18:32

I think your pretty safe with Orkney emummy. Good weather is usually 18c no more!

emummy · 09/08/2017 18:43

Fingers crossed Marvellous! And I usually walk or jog slowly between intervals.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/08/2017 17:20

Hi sheusedtobesomeoneelse! My friend always says train hard race easy Smile
I'm very slow at the moment and blaming the heat but I tried to give blood a few weeks ago and I'm anaemic so that probably doesn't help!

I know what you mean MyBlackCat! I got drowned weds morning Sad

I always slow jog the recovery Marvellousmarg but I know lots of people who say you should walk to make sure you're fully recovered to give it your all in the intervals.

Weds and thurs am runs, wanted to have a rest day weds but my friend was feeling sad as it was the anniversary of her dad's death and she wanted company so I will have to leave the rest day! 142.2

I'm currently training easy and racing hard Smile well I'm training by HR and 80% of my training is done at 60-70% with one interval session which is hard and I'm throwing in a hard parkrun every 2/3 weeks.

I'm running 5x a week and as most runs are easy pace I don't feel too tired after which makes it easy to run the next day. It's actually really enjoyable, hard at first to run so slow but slowly I'm picking the pace up without my heart rate rising.

Knocked nearly 3 mins off my 10k PB so I'm sticking with it!!

emummy · 11/08/2017 09:11

Nice soggy run this morning, although it dried up halfway through. Mixed pace, felt ok considering there was wine last night!

It's lovely and sunny here today so had a warm one with only 2 of my dogs as the big one isn't great in the heat 150.2

Easy run this morning in my new shoes which gave me blisters! First time I've ever had them since I started running. Not good timing as I have half marathon to run on Sunday.

3.8 to add so 154

MyBlackCat · 12/08/2017 16:35

Parkrun and a bit extra - doing a hills session with a group tomorrow - think it might hurt Shock

158.5

MyBlackCat · 12/08/2017 16:35

Good luck with your half marvellousmarg hope the blisters aren't too bad

emummy · 12/08/2017 19:26

Good luck tomorrow marvellous, hope it goes well

Marvellousmarg · 13/08/2017 14:43

Well my blisters have doubled in size but I did the half. Anybody know good ways of getting them to heal quickly? I haven't popped them although it's tempting!

Just ran, didn't race. Very hot and sunny ☀️

MyBlackCat · 13/08/2017 14:46

Well done marvellousmarg - no clue on blisters, sorry 😐

I bounded up some hills this morning

emummy · 13/08/2017 16:37

Well done marvellous! I have had success with compeed blister plasters in the past, don't know if they come in the right size.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/08/2017 21:29

Well done Marvellousmarg, I tend to pierce mine with a needle and drain the fluid then out a big blob of sudocrem or germaline on them.

Lovely Sunday morning run today 181.4

Marvellousmarg · 15/08/2017 13:50

4 miles to add. A little leg lengthener on my blistered feet. I think I'm going to pop and savlon them as suggested.
