The newsest thread for all runners to chat and keep track of their miles. Everyone welcome for support, guidance and general running talk including very important kit choices Wink

Meant to do 9 miles this morning but left leg seized up at 8 miles so stopped & walked home. Not happy! Going to get a sports massage I think.
vviola some days it just doesn't work! I try and figure out if there was something I should have done differently but if not just chalk it up to experience and move on! Some runs are just a bit rubbish.
The numbers are the running total in miles for us all for the month so you just add yours on to the previous total.

hello..can i join in please ?
I started running about 4 yrs ago...from never having run before, did get up to 10 km event level, did 2 and was really enjoying it but then had a bad bad injury ( not running , skiing) and it has taken 2.5 yrs to get back to being able to run.
I am currently 3 weeks of my first 10km and running every other day doing anything between 7-9.5 km each time
i am often very slow but have seen pace pick up a bit.
I do not do anything other than just running ...i have never done intervals etc and am now wondering if i should ?
I find the first 2-3 km a killer every run and often wonder why it is not getting any easier ?
I also have good and bad days ..find them tricky to handle too...yesterday had a shoddy run, legs felt like jelly, couldnt even get to 1 km mark before needing a walk..wtf ???
I just keep repeating 'mind over marathon' in my head and try to aim to do 'just a bit more' and then i did manage 8 km in the end.

can someone come and advice me on how to improve overall fitness...i dont have a plan etc , i just run !
I am aiming for my first half in october ..gulp

theredjellybean · 04/06/2017 09:42

i will start couting miles from 1 june...

theredjellybean · 04/06/2017 09:43

sorry ..realise i need to add mine to total

so

60.26

IsThatYouPaul · 04/06/2017 11:21

I have no plan either theredjellybean

I'm a stubborn bugger, so if I think I have to do something, I'll possibly rebel. For example, say I should be running 4 miles. If I think "I'll just do 2 miles" then end up running four, I'm disproportionately chuffed with myself.

I think my psyche's a bit odd.

Nice 4.7 miles round park today (and yes only intended to do two!)

64.96

ClimbingPenguin · 04/06/2017 12:49

Did 10 miles today with 5 mins strong finish. Ran pretty much the planned pace. DD also did her first junior park run, which I ran with her too

Will chat to others once showered etc.

IsThatYouPaul you should have a look at Gretchen Rubin's 4 personality types, I think you might be a Rebel!

MyBlackCat · 04/06/2017 19:46

parkrun from yesterday, pacing a friend to a PB and a long slow run today. Finally getting used to running slow, my watch even told me to speed up a few times today! Average HR of 140bpm for over 7 miles today.

AuntieStella · 04/06/2017 19:52

Adding my last few to the May total: 437.3 - including the 6.2 if my first 10k event. Yes, I got round!

So very happy here.

And to add to June

96.92

ClimbingPenguin · 04/06/2017 20:54

theredjellybean unfortunately the more I run the longer I take to get into it.

I like just running, but for my half's I loosely (by finding reasons to skip half of it) followed the BUPA intermediate half program. Main think is to mix up your type of runs and do another exercise (even if it replaces a run).

I haven't found a full marathon training program I like yet. I know I'm unlikely to run more than three times a week. But I try and do yoga and climbing on top. My plan so far is to mix and match a few that I have found. I like the one that tells me exactly what pace to do.

So this along with this Haven't quite decided about mid week runs, thing I'll go with the club and works flow (a few people do various stuff st lunch although the main campus running club has moved to track events, but it is also rounders season so that can eat into my running time).

ClimbingPenguin · 04/06/2017 20:56

emummy how did the studying go?

Sorelip · 04/06/2017 21:05

Rejoining after god knows how long. 8 miles to add for June.

Still struggling through Climbing, exam on Wednesday, slowly losing will to live!
theredjellybean intervals, hills and fartlek can all help with speed if you can find time to do them. Running all your runs at the same pace will get you improvements eventually but takes longer. Also if you can a bit of cross training is good, swimming, cycling, strength and conditioning are all helpful to increase your fitness and prevent injury. And f course, have fun!
Well done on your 10k AuntieStella!

theredjellybean · 05/06/2017 11:40

is that you paul...you sound just like me...i should be running 10km...i think bugger that i dont want to/its hard/the sun is too hot/too cold etc etc i will just run to top of this lane, then i run a bitmore and in the end do the required distance and then feel like i have done something extraordinary !
it works for me.
thanks for the links climbing...i felt a bit overwhelmed with programmes but will look more closely this evening when home from work and work out something bespoke.
where i live it is very hilly so every run involves a couple of killer hill runs , especially the first 2 km, but i think intervals might help and doing only one longer run each week, currently i feel every run has to be longer than the last

theredjellybean · 05/06/2017 11:40

what is fartlek ?

AuntieStella · 05/06/2017 11:43

It's when Albanian currency wafts behind you

Hello. Just a quick check in with 3.1 today before the weather turned.

108.02

moutonfou · 05/06/2017 19:22

Hi all, just done my first 10k in 01:02:30. It was pretty hilly (150m of vertical climb) and I was on my period.

I'm doing a flat 10k in a couple of months. Do you think if I keep training, without the hills and (hopefully!) without the period I can get under the hour?

2.5 mins seems so little, but I'm aware from trying to get my 5k down from 31 to 30 that a little time can take a lot of effort to knock off!

114.23

emummy · 06/06/2017 11:38

I think you've got a shot mouton, I took 4 minutes off my 10k PB last year to finally get under the hour. Good luck!
Very very very wet run this morning! Dh away, so had to take the dog out anyway and with the exam tomorrow I won't have time. So out we went into the forest, ran up and down hills, through big puddles. Totally soaked! Not sure dog will dry out before this afternoon's walk! Topped off by my lovely dog deciding to have a good shake while I did my stretches, covering me in mud! Feeling human again now with a hot shower and a coffee.

Very wet buggy run with some intervals thrown in
