I have been foam rolling it Cantsee and actually last night that wasn't sore. I'll give the ball a try though, thanks!

MyBlackCat · 02/05/2017 19:48

Buggy run this afternoon, I love my foam roller Smile

Just a gym commute to add. Super stiff in the hamstrings after the hill session yesterday. I really do need to stretch and roll more.

Sluggish trot around the woods this morning- massive work avoidance strategy - ha ha. I'm away with work all next week so trying to get a bit of extra mileage in now.

Hi all, hope you don't mind me crashing in on the conversation but thought it would be polite to stop lurking and say hello Smile.
I'm one of those non-sporty types who was always miles behind everyone else at x-country and always associated running with pain and failure. I ended up doing the 5k race for life to support and friend, got the runners high and thought maybe this could be me after all. Did my first 10k a few weeks ago and signed up for a hilly but scenic half in October. I like hill walking - I assumed I would like hill running but now I'm not so sure!
Some amazing achievements on here, much respect!

Does anybody have any tips for general foot tightness/tiredness?

I've been running for three months - I think I keep it fairly moderate at around 3-5k, three times a week (having built gradually up to that). The foot problems only started a couple of weeks ago - no one area hurts enough to make me think I've injured it, but they feel generally sore and tired and it isn't pleasant to run on.

I'm trying to incorporate as many rest days as possible - I ran 3k today after 3 days off - but my feet still felt tired straight away. I've tried a foot roller, massages from DH, ice footbaths, strapping, doing my shoes up tighter, doing my shoes up looser, etc etc.

I do tend to run on my forefeet and know I should be aiming more for the middle foot so maybe I need to work on that, but tried both today and neither felt great.

I know the answer is probably cut back a bit on the running, but I'm just getting my aerobic fitness up and really don't want to lose it again Sad

Any advice?

Cantseethewoods · 05/05/2017 03:51

Welcome militant and mouton

Hmm, tricky. I'm trying to imagine what a tired foot feels like- it's normally my legs which are a bit "this.....again????" . Have you tried maximalist shoes, like Hoka, which have a lot of cushioning through the forefoot? They're also designed for a forefoot (as opposed to heel) strike. However, if you're right up on your toes it might be that you're interrupting the load-unload movement and putting too much pressure on your toe joints.

Adding another 5 from gym commute.

Hi TheMildManneredMilitant! Please feel free to add your miles and comment as regularly as you like Smile

What shoes are you running in moutonfou? I would never say but back on running! It's not an option for me so I manage any painful bits when they appear so I don't have to WinkConfused I broke my foot in 2012 and it hurts often the day after I run but I have quite minimal trainers and I know they don't offer the support the my foot would probably like but I love them in every other way! I would say if you think your shoes are ok, correct for your pronation, not done too many miles etc it would be worth seeing a sports massage therapist or physiotherapist and asking their advice.

That is good news emummy.

Sorry I've been quiet. Still finding my way back into it all. Just 2.75 yesterday.

A very breezy buggy run, trying to run slower and keep my HR below 150 - I'm practically walking at times Hmm

Cantseethewoods · 06/05/2017 03:00

Got up at 4am to do the Darkness into Light 5k walk for suicide awareness this morning, and then my friend and I thought as we were up already we might as well do a 16k trail run home. Summer pace (i.e. slow).

AuntieStella · 06/05/2017 12:43

I'm finding it a bit hard going at the moment (tree pollen season) but am working up to a 10k at the end of this month, so am increasing my mileage a bit. Still not fast, but going steadily.

MyBlackCat · 06/05/2017 13:55

A steady parkrun as have an off road 10k tomorrow Shock

stilllearnin · 07/05/2017 10:24

Am I too late to say good luck black cat? Are you trying to run slower to do the whole anaerobic and aerobic thing? I'm trying to get my head round that.

emummy · 07/05/2017 19:02

Lovely evening run - rare for me but big family church event this morning so didn't get out. And my mother will be staying for the next 10 days so running essential! Feel good after nice brisk run, now for sausages!
Hope today went well MyBlackCat

Ridiculously tough off road 10k today, felt like there was much more uphill compared to downhill, I was 18th female but gutted as I was just outside the hour Sad

Yes still I am trying to slow down to speed up! A couple of ladies from my local parkrun have trained that way for 12 months and have just ran sub 3:50 marathons, my parkrun PB is very similar to their's. To be honest training at lower intensities and therefore being easier certainly appeals - it's worth a try Smile

Hi all,

Enjoying the updates, I like the phrase 'summer pace'

I've been ill all week and now looks like I'm developing a sinus infection. So, no mileage to add. Hoping the posting encourages me to return sooner rather than later.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 08/05/2017 19:41

Evening all, thanks for the welcome.
4.3 miles build up run today with a big hill half way round, felt good though.
I just can't slow down enough to get heart rate low enough for fat burning, hoping when I'm fitter it will be a bit easier.

charimito · 08/05/2017 23:26

Hello! New here whats the count for weekly/monthly /yearly?

stilllearnin · 09/05/2017 06:29

Welcome charimito it's monthly in miles. All counts big and small Smile

I'm very slowly getting there. Had a stretch of not being able to leave the house alone so I resorted to squats and online aerobic classes...which happily appears to have helped with hills! Just 3.1 to add from yesterday.

105.5

stilllearnin · 09/05/2017 06:34

Well done black cat. Sounds tough! Do you use a heart rate monitor. Or do you do it by pace? I've been reading about it but I am not sure I get it. My miles are low at the minute, but I'm looking to increase them soon.
