Roastie Flowers, hi hop abs should be ok?

Waves to Boobz think that is amazing you are getting so much done...feel super guilty now as have skipped workout, maybe I will be try to fit one in later after all.

Only I am going to have to follow your lead and exercise early I think {electrick shock emoji}

RoastieToastieReastie · 08/09/2016 18:38

Is hip hop abs really easy tight yumy? That's why I've never done it. I tried rockin body and it was too easy and I sent it back.

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2016 19:25

I just checked Roastie and it is supposed to be easier than rockin body... so that's no good!

RoastieToastieReastie · 08/09/2016 21:06

Thanks for checking yumy, I'm feeling really down about it as it will be until I get the MRI results and the scan will take weeks if not months to come through if last time is anything to go by. I could take a skipping rope out in the garden to add to the running but my dodgy knee is not going to like running too much so I need to find something to mix it with. There must be something out there I can do that is challenging but not involving much with elbows or shoulders....

OP posts:
onlywhenyouleave · 08/09/2016 21:10

roastie why no HIIT training? Surely that is OK as long as you don't do any moves that involve your arms/shoulders? Just thinking that T25 Speed 2.0 and Core Speed do not have any floor work at all (think Core Speed has burpees but you the modification option doesnt involve going onto the floor) so they would be a good option - they are quite challenging aswell.

yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2016 22:18

I was thinking T25 too, but I think you said it hurt your knees?
Do you still have your gym membership for a while, I am thinking machines, treadmills etc might be better in the short term. Is cycling ok on the knees? What about the modifier version of insanity max 30? On the dvd you can select an option to keep the modifier on all the time but the intensity might be a bit high? Hope you find a good challenge, maybe the London Marathon afterall?

RoastieToastieReastie · 09/09/2016 06:12

Thanks for the advice. I think hiit was because of burpees and press ups but you're right I could modify that, so I might be able to do insanity as planned still (although thinking about it there's also moving push ups, mountain climbers in plank, and the abs plank side jump thingy that I can't remember the name of).

Annoyingly I've cancelled my gym membership and it runs out the end of this month. I was going to join a cheaper gym instead though so gym machines is still an option (allbeit from a tiny non air conditioned very basic gym)

Roastie Flowers sounds cr@p. What a depressing discussion with consultant. The positive is tho that you're on the way to finding out exactly what the problem is which has to be good. You could just make up a series of your own substitutions eg burpees = high knees, press ups= squats etc and do all the DVDs as normal? Insanity does have a lot of shoulder stuff so you'd be modifying a lot but worth a try I'd have thought. There are also some legs only workouts in t25 (poppy mentioned them I think) or p90x, p90x3 Lower work outs. Stay positive - after this you are going to have washboard abs and buns of steel as you'll be focussing on them!!

Hi boobz - your life sounds hectic. You sound like you're enjoying things tho? I am back doing random workouts at the mo. Did 2x weeks asylum before hols. Liked it but it felt quite serious and aimed at someone getting fit for a sport rather than just for itself. Will def go back to it tho as you could tell it would be bloody effective. Am doing some max30s as I'd forgotten how much j liked them. Friday fight 2 and max out sweat are worth a try for you.

And - who told me to do 21 day fix plyo work out??? I did it. Proved very tricky as on the streaming from the secret site the sound wasn't synced with the picture so she was describing on exercise and doing another. Was sort of like riding a bike when they've reversed the handlebars. the actual workout I found a bit frustrating as it is 30secs move (jumping) 30secs rest, so you do a lot of rests and I was getting a bit irritated spending so much time standing around. but it obviously did something as my bum has been sore for 2 days. It was obviously sneakily hard!

Sorry - essay alert Blush

onlywhenyouleave · 09/09/2016 12:42

Purple it was me that suggested Plyo Fix Wink There are several different Plyo Fix videos on the secret site - a couple are out of sync but the rest are fine so you just need to click on a few to get on that is ok. I did Plyo Fix this morning too Grin I agree that there is a lot of standing around (but I need the rests Blush) but I think it is true HIIT training where the rest intervals match the work intervals (might have made that up!)

Try Total Body Cardio Fix next and see what you think. The exercises last for 60 seconds in this one and the rest periods are much shorter (15-20 secs) so much less standing around. Plus I think the exercises are generally harder in this but that might be because you are doing them for 30 seconds longer!

I have to say that 21-day fix does seem to work muscles that other exercise routines don't - I have ached in some really weird places after doing these workouts (remember my ab muscles that hurt when I went to the toilet for a 'no. 2' Blush)

RoastieToastieReastie · 09/09/2016 19:21

21 day fix sounds really good, must try it once the arm gets better.

I did think about the legs workouts eg p90x3 etc lower workouts but all the ones I can think of use free weights, which are now a no go . Went swimming today at the gym, haven't been for years as I get ear problems but wanted to cross fingers I might be ok. I am a rubbish swimmer and because of ear issues I have to keep my head above water at all times but managed 20 measley small in a tiny pool lengths. My heart rate went up a lot and it felt really hard work at the time. Hopefully if it works then I can do that once a week and build it up. It will mean I'll have to cancel my cancellation at the naice gym though (although I assume they'll be happy to do this as they'll get more money if I continue). I'm also booked into step aerobics in Monday morning at said gym, so I figure I can do two jogs, one swim, one step aerobics, one yoga, one hiit and maybe a core workout a week. It's not uo to what I was doing but I'm hoping it'll work and I won't lose too much fitness. How does that sound? I should do a disclaimer that I'm rubbish at running so it'll only be a 5k at snails pace but the heart rate will be way up there!

Only I had forgotten about you straining a muscle in yr stomach and it hurting when you went to the loo! I quite like it when I ache after exercise , makes me feel like I've worked hard.

Purple thanks for the positivity.

Purpleraindeer · 10/09/2016 07:43

Sounds like a plan roastie. What about cize? You could use this time to become a hip hop dancer?! You can do interval training with swimming too (eg 1x fast length, 1x slow length etc) which makes it less boring than just ploughing up and down - Google swimming workouts maybe?

Only - I'll take you up on the other 21 day fix workout this weekend. Wanted the familiarity of Shaun t last night so did max out sweat. I had to stop soooo much despite having been fine on it last week - i think I was tired?

RoastieToastieReastie · 11/09/2016 18:37

Yes, I wondered about Cize but my broadband is rubbish and every time I work out from the secret site it freezes several times which drives me mad (and I wouldn't get enough longevity from it to buy as once I've done the routines a few times it becomes dull).

Yesterday did a jog. Only nearly 5k so quite pathetic but it was my first time and I got stitch (AGAIN, this always happens and is once reason I've never got into running) but I have to start somewhere. Today did turbo fire hiit 20 and pump hard core abs (track one and three as track two is very plank based with shoulder stuff). Tomorrow I'm booked into aerobics and quite nervous as I haven't done a class like that in years. I held back a bit today as I had aching legs after my run and swimming and didn't want them to ache too badly for the class tomorrow before I'd started.

Looks like it's going to be quite a hot on this week here.

RoastieToastieReastie · 12/09/2016 09:20

I'm sitting in the gym cafe waiting for the class feeling ridiculously nervous. Why?!!! Ten minutes to go and counting.

Ps- purple, whenever I see your name on the thread my head sings 'purple rain' with killer emotion and mental hand movements like I'm prince Blush

OP posts:
onlywhenyouleave · 12/09/2016 09:33

Roastie hope you enjoy the class Smile I totally get your nerves - for some reason, I am always nervous going into a new gym class but generally people are friendly and it is never as bad as you think Grin

Hope you all had a good weekend. Finished week 1 of 21-day fix yesterday which means I am back at the nightmare that is Total Body Cardio this evening Hmm

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2016 10:34

Hi all

Hope you enjoyed the class Roastie, I would be nervous too but bet you feel great after.

Hope you get a good buzz from the cardio Only to make up for the pain!

Saying it so I do it unlike last week's half arsed attempt 2 insanity Max 30s and 3 chalean weights. Burn 1 done this am (think early morning workout is way forward) also dyed my hair and had coffee and about to log in and get some work done. Feeling very productive (but am steadfastly ignoring fact house is a sty!)

Hope everyone else is well

RoastieToastieReastie · 12/09/2016 12:39

Yumy I love the productivity, I love days like that.

Only enjoy the cardio.

Well, I did enjoy the class (sort of). It was very routiney which I live but I'm not used to. Lots of twirls etc. I'm feeling very proud of myself as there were two other newbies in the class and both of them gave up before half way through as they couldn't get the routine and another class member told me I was a natural as I picked up the first two blocks straight away (this was tempting fate though as I never completely nailed the third block). I was dripping in sweat at the end so I must've worked hard but I didn't feel like it was nearly as hard as thke cardio I'm used to. There were a few breaks and I wanted to do running on the spot to keep the heart rate up but was a bit embarrassed to be the only one (whereas at home I would've). I'm hoping it'll be a good compliment to the new workout schedule but I'm also worried I'm going to lose fitness level I have with this new regime. Sorry, that was an essay Blush

OP posts:
onlywhenyouleave · 12/09/2016 20:28

Yay, total body cardio done - very slightly easier than last week but at least it is done for another 7 days Grin

roastie well done on the class, next week it will get easier and so on and before you know it, you will be one of the oldies rather than a newbie Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2016 20:41

Hi fives Only and Roastie! Roastie you are ound to be using some new muscles, maybe better posture/form or whatever in a class so hopefully there will be benefits.

Must feel good Only for a nemesis workout to feel easier.

Purpleraindeer · 12/09/2016 20:56

Roastie is the thread winner for branching out into new things. Smile I felt nervous when I met boobz to do the Barry's class that time. I was scared all the other boys and girls would be loads fitter than me. Am a bit Shock that people didn't complete the class - I'd be too embarrassed just to walk out no matter how bad it was. Id maybe fake an injury....

Only - at your suggestion I did the 21 fix cardio one. That was a loads better work out than plyo. I find weights + cardio super hard so I know it was good for me but I was cursing! I don't love Autumn tho - I think I want that work out but with Shaun t cheering me on Blush. Did you do that workout today too?

Have you done all the mth 1 max 30s now poppy? Sweat intervals has always been my nemesis

onlywhenyouleave · 12/09/2016 21:23

purple I actually prefer Autumn to Shaun T now (DH does too but think that might be for a different reason Grin) - I find she explains the correct format really well and is very encouraging.

Did you do Total Body Cardio (starts with Surrenders where you kneel down and then stand up again?) Sounds like it because it mixes up weights and cardio. Did you find it really hard or is it just me being unfit?

Purpleraindeer · 12/09/2016 21:29

Yes that was the one only. My shoulders hate me now. I won't be brushing my hair tomorrow. I found it hard - cardio would have been no problem but it was the weights which made it really tough. I was relieved when it was time for abs!

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2016 08:09

Defo want to try some of these autum workouts now! Need to focus on my plan for a change though.

Not finished all the blue dvds yet purple - Friday fight night still awaits me {quivers}
Tabata Power done today - felt like I was 'phoning it in' (is that the phrase?) a bit as I hate pushups on my knees but can only go so far and do so many regular pushups. My arms give way on the pushup bit if I go close to the floor at all.

RoastieToastieReastie · 14/09/2016 07:47

I've never done an Autumn workout so interested you prefer her to Shaun t only.

Purple I didn't realise you'd done Barry's with boobz (or if I did I forgot). Speaking of boobz, boobz I hope the house selling/work/workouts/everything is going well.

Did agility p90x3 yesterday in the heat. There were only two push up/plank moves that I did a different move in instead which worked well. Today I've got a yoga class. My calves are really really hurting from different workouts though! Tbh they hurt after my jog in Saturday but I did turbo fire hiit anyway in Sunday. They hurt more on Monday but I took painkillers before my step class Blush so yesterday before agility they still hurt but did agility anyway. Hopefully with a restful yoga class today they will get better for another run tomorrow, but if they still hurt I may have a rest day or do a quick core routine instead (although this is hard limiting plank stuff). Holding off a day or two would be sensible I think.....but I'm not very good at being sensible. There's good pain and bad pain and this isn't nice hard working aching pain.

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 14/09/2016 10:24

Roastie - I totally sympathise - is soooo frustrating being injured and so easy to just do a little bit too much. well done you for being flexible about what you can and can't do. Would it be better to just dump all DVDs for the time being and just do 'new' things that are OK for your injury so you physically can't overdo it? Flowers for you.

Poppy - the press ups in max30 are crazy. I swear no normal person could get thru them without going to knees anyway. I'm now pleased if I can just do half unmodified and even then one of the mth 2 work outs I modify basically from the 2nd move. Objectively I know I'm pretty strong and good at press ups and never modify in other workouts - it's only max30 - you're not alone in this!

Had a fab workout last night. Cardio challenge. I was super energetic and really up for it. Felt great. I maxed exactly when Shaun t did. Am satisfyingly achy today. Smile

onlywhenyouleave · 14/09/2016 13:19

roastie maybe a rest day is in order Wink If you can manage a 10-minute video on the secret site (I am sure you said that you had issues with streaming), Autumn does a 10-minute abs fix video which is just different variations on crunches - I believe there are 400 crunches in 10 minutes and no plank/core strength work. Would that be doable? I think I am going to give it a go at the weekend when I have more time and can add it onto my workout.

The main reason I enjoy Autumn's workouts is because I prefer the format of 60 seconds work and a short break rather than the 'no-break' nature of T25 - personal preference and natural laziness I guess Smile

Did Barre Legs today which I love - really works the legs! For each exercise, you do 20 normal reps, 20 pulses and then hold for 30 seconds - my god, it hurts!
