I did my first C25K training 'run' last night and it nearly killed me Blush. My knees objected strongly but I ploughed on...sort of.

2nd run tomorrow - how do I survive it?

olive wow well done! That's a huge improvement. I agree with PP you should definitely join us on the c25k and start at about week 4 or 5 and see how you get on. It will really help you reach your goal.

I'm also wondering what to do when I'm finished. The end is in sight for me and I'm worried. I'm worried that without the thrill of moving from week to week and the sense of achievement that I will stop running.

I'm wondering if I should try the 5 to 10k app or something. Not that I really want to run 10k 🙄

coragreta · 09/07/2016 16:48

I've just done run one on 5k-10k after completing c25k. It was hard but I completed it. I think I might just keep going with the 5k and try to improve my time.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 10/07/2016 13:13

Well it was the race for life today. An ambitious goal after only 7 weeks of running but I did it in 46 mins. I ran the first 3K did a combo of walking and running between 3 and 4 and than run the last. It was hard because much of it was on long grass and I found it hard having to be aware of the others around me and not colliding with them! Some people had dogs on quite long leads too and that was hard. But I did it. If I can all of you other lovelies can too. Keep it up!

anonymousbird · 11/07/2016 13:44

Well dome Mrs P D!!!!

My app forgot to tell me to walk today, so I skipped a whole walk as I was really listening to the music so I ended up on Wk 5 Day 1 doing:

22 minutes, 5R, 3W, 14R (Shock) and then added on a five minute cool down walk and stretch.

anonymousbird · 12/07/2016 13:53

Wk 5 Day 2 - 31 minutes, 5R, 3W, 8R, 5W, 10R, plus cool down.
4.52 km.

Feels great. Honestly, I can't quite believe it. Even set off in the rain today as I wanted to get going!

I haven't run in 30 years, I'm 46, have had double back surgery, shoulder surgery and am carrying a good stone or so that I shouldn't be, so truly, if I can do it, anyone can.

SkyRabbit · 12/07/2016 14:30

Wow anonymousbird - that's pretty inspirational!!

I'm on week 3 run 3 - I'm managing the runs (just). My problem is soreness. My knees knack, but I think just in a muscle achey knack. My foot is a different matter. It feels like I've done something to it - front of foot and round to inner ankle. It's sore all the time, but if I stand on tip toes, or god forbid, put any sort of heels on, I hit the roof.
Do I go to the docs, walk in, or physio?? I have no idea ! And do I keep running??

TwuntingCat · 12/07/2016 22:24

Sky it sounds like you have done the same as what I have done to my foot. I stupidly decided to do the next run and 3 weeks later my foot is still quite sore (not ran since) Sad. I'm hoping I will be able to get out on Monday.

QuickBringWine · 13/07/2016 21:25

Just finished week 7 day 2 today (did day 1 on Sunday) and actually found it really hard going tonight! I think it's because I hadn't really eaten properly today and had been working, but I found it much tougher than on Sunday! I'll keep going and see if my next run seems any better before I try to move on! Week 7 is all 25 minutes with no breaks, so to be fair it's really a miracle that I can keep going at all (and if it was easy we wouldn't need this thread!)
How's everyone else doing?? Sky I wouldn't run on that foot until you get it checked out, you don't want to cause yourself serious damage!

AStreetcarNamedBob · 13/07/2016 22:02

Well done Mrs PD! I bet you're glad you didn't give up on training now!

Everyone on this thread is just fantastic. I'm in awe of everyone.

Tomorrow I have a 25 min run. The end is in sight!!

SkyRabbit · 13/07/2016 22:27

Wow MrsPD I missed that - that's insanely brilliant - well done!!!

I'm so in awe of everyone else! Running 25 mins+ sounds so unachievable to me at the minute!!

My foot seems to be improving slightly - I ran today (wk3r3) and I can still walk after it!! Maybe it was a shin splints thang? Mind, I need to wear heels for a do tomorrow, and I'm not sure if I can !

suze28 · 14/07/2016 21:24

I've just done the 25 min run for Wk6D3 and am so pleased with myself as I found the 20 min run last week really hard.
I'm feeling like I'm really getting somewhere now. SkyRabbit I started 6 wks ago and am starting Wk 7 on Saturday. You can definitely so it.

SimonNeilshair · 15/07/2016 18:31

Hello everyone, I've just done wk 2 run 2 so I'm quite a way behind most people. I love reading this thread to see the support and encouragement and to hear people's positive stories. I'm going to try and fit another run in on Sunday.

I treated myself to some new trainers yesterday and so far they are much comfier than my old ones which are at least 7 years old Blush

Keep it up everyone!

anonymousbird · 16/07/2016 09:38

Simonneilshair - my trainers were nearly 25 years old!!! New ones v comfy and actually like wearing them.

SimonNeilshair · 18/07/2016 09:16

Going to do wk 2 run 3 today! On holiday then but I'm going to take my stuff with me so I can keep on track

TwuntingCat · 18/07/2016 09:53

I got back off my holiday on Friday and my foot is feeling much better so was going to attempt to re start at W1D3 this morning (last run I completed was W2D2 3 weeks ago) but I have come down with a hell of a cold and I'm struggling to breath sat in bed never mind whilst running Sad. Fingers crossed I will make it out on Wednesday, I should have been on W4D3 by now!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 18/07/2016 22:20

I was going to join this thread when I first started c25k
I've done wk6 day 1 today, however I do all my runs on a treadmill as the footpaths are too overgrown and there's not many pavements in my village
I'm also a bit wary of running outside as my pelvic floor is rubbish!
Wk5 day3 is the 20min run on the zen labs app, wasn't too bad but I did it in the morning as I was on a late shift so probably had more energy!
I still can't imagine ever running 5k, I've done it to tone up really. I did lots of Jillian Michaels DVDs a few years ago which were good but then I hurt my back so I thought running would be good.
Are there other apps to keep me motivated after this? 3 times a week fits in well with work.
One day I'll pluck up courage and run outside

AStreetcarNamedBob · 20/07/2016 08:45

I did my 5k run yesterday on the hottest day of the year!! Set my alarm for 5:30am to try and beat the heat. I did it in 31mins17sec which I'm pleased about.

I don't know what to do now. There is an app called "5k pacer" which is about improving your 5k time and it's an 8 week program or maybe the 10k runner app to take me up to 10 k

I'm worried about losing momentum of I don't have an app to do!

tropical1 · 21/07/2016 21:54

I've just done week 5 run 3, walk 5 mins then run for 20 mins!
We took it quite slowly but didn't stop and managed it without desperately wanting to stop, felt great😃
I honestly could not have imagined ever running for 20 mins non stop 5 weeks ago, I'm 51, done no previous regular exercise, I'm so impressed with this programme. We're planning to do our first park run in a few weeks 😊😊

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 22/07/2016 14:27

I couldn't ever imagine myself running for more than about 20secs either tropical
I struggled with the first 3min run and today did wk 6 day 3 which is 22mins
Oddly I find the long runs easier than the stop start of the other sessions
Still can't imagine doing a park run thou
Hopefully soon the fields will be all cut and I'll try a run outside

tropical1 · 22/07/2016 17:22

I'm really enjoying running outside kitten, we run down a path along a river with loads of ducks, geese etc.there's cows and their calves and rabbits hopping along, it's very scenic 😃
I'm not sure how nice it'll be in the winter though!!
I'm glad the longer runs are easier, I really felt that we crossed a barrier yesterday and we are going to build up steadily from there .... hopefully 😃😃

SkyRabbit · 26/07/2016 20:15

Hi ! Haven't been on for ages - everyone seems to be doing awesomely!
Just finished week 4 - I think I might repeat it? Just feel like I'm struggling with it a bit. Is that the right thing to do or should I push on to week 5 ( the end of which terrifies me - the dreaded 20 minutes!!!!!!!) ?

QuickBringWine · 29/07/2016 18:11

Hi! It's been ages since I posted last but the heat here's been awful and coupled with the end of term anarchy I've only made it out a few times! I finished week 7 run 3 and then did a couple of non timed runs (off app) and this morning I managed my first ever full 5k in 36 minutes!! Three months ago I never thought I'd be able to do it and I'm amazed that the app actually works but it does!!
Now I'm off to check out some of the apps that have been recommended as follow ons, although I think I'm going to start by trying to get my 5k time down first!!

porsmork · 29/07/2016 18:23

Hi everyone, can I join you?
I'm doing the c25k podcast, just done week 2 run 2. Feel like it's more walking than running this week, but still struggling. Since having Ds 18 months ago I've become really unfit, though never ran much before that, did Pilates (which I miss but can't find a good class locally). Not really doing it to lose weight (though would be nice to drop a stone), but more for general fitness and to try to even out my moods.
Find it so hard to get the motivation to go out, though I do like the treat of a nice shower and getting pjs on after the run if I do it in the evening. Any tips to keep that motivation?

PollysPoppy · 29/07/2016 22:31

Can I join too please? Have done Wk2 Day2 of the 5k Runner App. It was hard work today .... the app skipped ahead a few times so I ended up re-starting those particular segments, sometimes 30 seconds in, so I was well and truly wrecked at the end - and somewhat shocked to see a heart rate hitting 161 on my Garmin Shock. Might well repeat that day again on Sunday before moving on - mainly because I didn't finish it feeling like I'd achieved anything though I did complete it - and then some Grin. Running isn't my thing but I really want to persevere with it.

porsmork · 01/08/2016 19:34

Complete fail the past three days. Saturday was rest day, Sunday was meant to go, but had long drive, then bbq, so got home late, today was so looking forward to it, but it's raining soooooo hard, and I don't have a long sleeved top I can run in :(
Totally letting myself down. Especially as started reading 'running like a girl' today to inspire me!
