I did my first C25K training 'run' last night and it nearly killed me Blush. My knees objected strongly but I ploughed on...sort of.

2nd run tomorrow - how do I survive it?

Me too, I never actually thought I would feel upset that instead of sitting here in bed on MN I could be running right now! Praying my foot feels ok by Monday, so I can get 3 more runs done before I go on holiday and have to have another week off Sad.

tropical1 · 01/07/2016 07:55

It's weird isn't it, my DH said last night ' I never thought you would have a sports injury!' And it's true, I've never been into sport or any exercise apart from the odd swimming phase, but I'm really getting into running and now I'm in pain 😭
I think I'll go on Sunday and just walk if it's still hurting so I'm not letting my friend down. My very unfit 11 yo DS goes as well and he's doing really well!!

anonymousbird · 01/07/2016 13:17

Week 4 underway! Today I covered 2.75 miles, in a total of 18 minutes running Shock as I had 2 x 3 mins and 3 x 4 mins runs.

Cannot believe I managed it and I could have gone longer but don't want to regret it and then not be able to do my next set in two days' time.....

anonymousbird · 01/07/2016 13:37

Lordy, I have just realised that my distance covered is now 4.5km! Yes, it's a combo of run and walk (more run now - 18 out of 34 mins total) but to know I am in touching distance of the full 5k and then need to lengthen the runs and shorten the walks makes it feel achievable. Woo-hoo!

DDog utterly exhausted, had to drag her for the last 4 minute run!

startingtolooklikemother · 01/07/2016 13:57

I started the C25k about 8 weeks ago. The first few minute "runs" we're dreadful, I was willing for that bleeper to let me know I could stop! Today I just completed my first ever non stop mile. I am so proud of myself as I never, ever thought I would do it. I still look a state afterwards but I'm hoping that I can now slowly build on this to 1.5 miles and then who knows. It's amazing how quickly you can get fit even tho it doesn't feel like it. Just remember you are lapping everyone sitting on the sofa Wink

MrsSimonNeil · 01/07/2016 14:30

Love reading this thread, it's so motivating. I'm hoping to do my week 1 run 2 tonight. I've done C25K before several years so I know it works. I just need to keep it up this time!

MrsSimonNeil · 01/07/2016 14:32

Sorry, should say several years agoBlush

MrsPatrickDempsey · 01/07/2016 18:44

I am giving up - I am rubbish and I can't do it anymore. I haven't been able to complete my last two week 6 runs and have tried my best. I am really disheartened and I am defeated. Good luck everyone else. Don't let yourselves down like I have.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/07/2016 19:22

No, take a few days off and then repeat a week. Plenty of people do that.
You will be fine, you will get there.
Don't be hard on yourself, you've done fantastically to get this far and remember most people just think about it and never even actually start.
Have a Brew and try again next week.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 01/07/2016 19:26

MrsPD here is some tough love. What are you talking about? You're already able to run about 10x further than you could at first. So you can't do long runs yet - so what? Keep doing the week you're ok at until you feel more confident. Then either move on or don't! You can keep doing short runs forever if you want! It's better for you than no running. Don't give up!

QuickBringWine · 01/07/2016 20:29

I did it!! Week 5 run 3 20 minutes of non stop (very slow) running!! I am officially amazed at what my body has been able to do!! 6 weeks ago I could barely run for a minute!
MrsPatrickDempey don't give up!! You can do this!! We all can! Just keep going and repeat the weeks you're finding hard! Maybe try a different route, I'm finding mixing it up a bit helps!! But if you've made it to week 6 you're already doing so well!!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 01/07/2016 20:32

Thanks - just feeling low about it.

coragreta · 01/07/2016 20:40

Repeating a week is fine. You can do it!

(Why is there no running man emoji?)

JellyBellyKelly · 01/07/2016 21:08

MrsPD

Don't give up. You are already overtaking everyone who sits on the couch.

Keep going. Repeat weeks. You will get there

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 01/07/2016 21:09

Well done quick!

I've been doing it for 6 months and I'm still on week 7 Grin

Only manage 2 times a week, occasionally only 1 and I have repeated many times when I didn't feel ready to go on. So what? I'm still doing it! If I had tried to follow the program I would have quit in failure months ago

tropical1 · 01/07/2016 23:23

🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃
I've got a running man emoji on my phone 😃😃

AStreetcarNamedBob · 02/07/2016 08:47

mrspd don't you dare give up! I've repeated runs, and some people have repeated weeks - the program isn't a set in stone "you MUST move on every day"... it's designed that you only move on when you can.

You WILL get there!! And to make it to week 6 is fab. Thats the week I'm on now and fully expecting to repeat a few!

FelixFelix · 02/07/2016 10:20

MrsPD please don't give up! I'm only on week 1 and week 6 seems like a lifetime away. It would be such a shame for you to stop this far in. Repeat a week as others have said and don't be too hard on yourself.

I am really achey today from my first run on Thursday. DD woke up 5 times last night then has been awake from 4am, and it's peeing it down but I'm going to try and get out for my second run tonight. Weirdly looking forward to it!

Hi guys: delurking just for this -

ATTN MRSPATRICKDEMPSEY - when I did c25k back in 2014 it too me FIVE attempts to get it all done and dusted. Week 6 is generally regarded as the toughest stage of the process. Hack away at it because let me vow to you that once you've nailed it, I swear weeks 7, 8 and 9 are as easy as farting after a curry.

Now I need your handholds as I've been out of the game for a week: stalled when I found out I was pregnant after doing w3r1. I'm so hideously tired all the time and I need my butt kicking. Going to try and get back in the game again tomorrow. Failure to do so means I'll be repeating the cancellation of my exercise regime at the exact same stage two pregnancies in a row.

Please guilt me into action!!!!

2ManySweets · 02/07/2016 11:04

*i meant week 6 took me five attempts to get all done and dusted baby brain

coragreta · 02/07/2016 14:11

I hate hills!!!!

FelixFelix · 02/07/2016 18:15

Coragreta I feel your pain. I live up on the moors in Yorkshire and it seems like everywhere is uphill no matter what direction you go in!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 02/07/2016 20:45

Thank you sweets for your encouraging words. I may give it another go tomorrow. Feeling hormonal and wonder if that's got anything to do with it too? so how many wks pregnant are you? I could not have made it out the front door so you are amazing to be even considering it!

2ManySweets · 02/07/2016 21:09

Hello again! I'm quite literally only a few weeks pg; I'm around 6 weeks and the only reason I'm quite open about it as I've been affected so badly with tiredness this time, it's bonkers.

I'm a true believer that energy out = energy recharge and then some so I'm trying to click back into running to give me more energy IYSWIM?

Also: my belly's gone all jelly again. Running halts that spread sharpish 😉

fandabbydozier · 02/07/2016 22:27

Hi everyone, I have a question about the app. Has it changed? I started with the nhs app downloaded ages ago but just completed week one. The voice is someone called Emma.
I went to download the rest and it won't work, whatever I try, no luck. So I go to the App Store and can only find the app with Jo Wiley, Sarah Millican etc on. Is this a replacement app? Is this one ok?
I feel sad. I was quite enjoying Emma's voice!!
Which app to use?!
