I did my first C25K training 'run' last night and it nearly killed me Blush. My knees objected strongly but I ploughed on...sort of.

2nd run tomorrow - how do I survive it?

Starting week 4 tonight, am strangely looking forward to it!
I'm thinking that next week's runs will finish with me running for 20 mins straight (I think) I just can't imagine it as 3 minutes wears me out now!

coragreta · 26/06/2016 19:03

I finished with a 5k park run on Saturday. 36;15. I was aiming for 35 but I'm proud. Was really hard but I ran the whole way!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 27/06/2016 08:46

Wow! Well done!

SkyRabbit · 27/06/2016 10:48

coragreta that's amazing - well done!!!
mrspatrickdempsey. Have ordered my sports bra Grin

Today I was aiming to do week 2 r1. About half way round I was a bit disillusioned, because I couldn't seem to run for as far as it said. 20,minutes in I had a wee look at the app.

Fecking week 4 I was doing. No wonder I felt shite!!

anonymousbird · 27/06/2016 17:22

Well done coragreta!

I did wk3 day 2 today. Felt good!! Dog fast at the beginning. Practically dragging her home by the end!

TwuntingCat · 27/06/2016 20:48

I got some proper running shoes fitted today and if anyone is in doubt like I was (I nearly walked out of the shop before even asking the assistant for help but DP wasn't letting me leave without a pair of trainers) don't be! I feel so silly for being so worried as the assistant put me at so much ease and took everything at my pace, I'm actually excited for my next run on Wednesday now I have my jazzy new trainers! I hurt my foot on Friday's run so didn't run this morning, do you think I should repeat Friday's run when I go out on Wednesday?

snowy508601 · 27/06/2016 22:33

Started week 3. It nearly killed me but I did it!
I might be tempting fate by saying so, but despite being about 7 stone overweight, I haven't suffered any aches and pains as yet.I only run on grass though.

AStreetcarNamedBob · 28/06/2016 03:07

skyrabbit that is hilarious Grin you must have been knackered after that !

twunting I wouldn't bother repeating. Just try the next run and if you can't do it then repeat. But chances are you'll be ok.

Thedeepbluesea · 28/06/2016 10:02

Well done congreta

twunting did you finish the run on Fri and is the foot properly better? I speak from sorry experience. I hurt my heel and didnt let it heal properly and tried to take on the next session. Ended up with achilles tendonitis which 6 months later still hasnt properly got better. As it hurts regardless of when i run or not i have decided to sod it and keep going. However my advice to normal sane people woukd be to remember there is no race to finish the prgram and finishing a session slower than you would have done is better than my failed three attenpts!!

That said i have just completed w6r3 this is the furthest i have ever got. Hurrah. Although felt like i was going to die Shock.

AStreetcarNamedBob · 28/06/2016 11:58

Did w5d1 today which on my app is run 5, run 6, run 5 with somewalking in between.

How do you stop obsessing about when you can walk again! I don't switch off and run because I'm constantly thinking "christ it can't be long now..."

I guess as I get fitter it might become easier? But then not really as the running lengths keep increasing :D My problem is as soon as it's a tiny bit hard I feel hard done by... some people love the burn... I love nice slow flat runs that only last a minute haha

Other than that it's going well and I feel such a sense on improvment when I've finished, I just wish I wasn't so obsessed with "how long left" when I'm running and could enjoy the moment instead.

TwuntingCat · 29/06/2016 08:31

Deep I couldn't reply at all yesterday but yes I did finish the run on Friday, my foot didn't hurt when I woke up this morning so I went out for a run, 2 minutes into the warm up walk it was agony so I have turned round and come home Sad

coragreta · 29/06/2016 15:44

What to do when you've finished? Went for a run today but with no timer to tell me when to run/when to walk I hardly ran at all. I don't really feel fit enough to to run 5k 3 times a week but still want to keep up with the runs. Or should I just do 35mins but at a slower pace so I'm not running as far. I'm mostly running with a pram and it's not at all easy.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/06/2016 16:13

There's a 'completed 5k, now want to do 10k' thread here and some of us aren't really at the point of adding distance yet.
Running for 35 minutes at a slower pace sounds like a plan. If you can keep that up then I am sure once you ditch the pram you'll pick up in no time. Running 35 minutes with a pram sounds like a huge effort to me no matter what speed you go, hats off to you if you can do that.

anonymousbird · 29/06/2016 17:56

Week four starts tomorrow. A total of 14 minutes running apparently... Shock

QuickBringWine · 29/06/2016 21:57

That's fantastic coragreta! I still don't really believe I could ever run 5k and certainly not in 36 minutes!!
I managed to dodge the rain and get out for week 5 run 2 tonight (my app has me on run 8, walk 5, run 8) I found the 8 minute runs so hard!! AStreetcarNamedBob I'm still constantly checking how long till the next walk too! My app has me running for 20 minutes straight next run... Can someone please reassure me that I won't actually die?? I honestly don't think I can physically do it having found 8 minutes so hard! (It's the first time in a couple of weeks that I've thought this is too hard, normally I just think this is tough but almost over!!)

coragreta · 29/06/2016 22:19

8 to 20 is quite a jump. Mine went 8 to 10mins. Are you sure you haven't missed a week?

I love how it builds up. When I first started 2 minutes was so hard. I would always look at the next run and think "I'll never do that" and feel so proud when I did. I can see how people get addicted to running.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 30/06/2016 00:38

It does go from 8 to 20. I didn't believe I could do it but it turned out I could :) trust yourself, go super slow but keep running and you will do it

QuickBringWine · 30/06/2016 10:50

It definitely goes from 8 to 20 minutes running! It's a bit mad really as it then drops back down and gives you walking intervals again! I can only assume that this is supposed to be a confidence building run...
I'll give it a shot tomorrow night though and try taking it really slow ladystark, I've not exactly been zooming along before now though!! I know I'll be thrilled if I can manage it, so probably worth a shot!

fandabbydozier · 30/06/2016 17:06

Can I join? I've just completed week one. I've been calorie counting since January and lost three stone and decided it's time to get off the couch. My weight loss has slowed down but I'm hoping to lose another stone. I'm strangely enjoying the running so far and haven't had to stop yet, although I can't imagine being able to run for half an hour!!

Are you finding you are losing weight or just getting fitter?

tropical1 · 30/06/2016 18:59

Off to do W4 R2 shortly with 2x3 and 2x5 runs. We did it last on Sunday but rain has stopped us going until today, I'm amazed I can run for 5 mins without dying!!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/06/2016 20:14

After a month of running I haven't lost a single ounce (not really trying to but I am drinking less wine so I might have expected to) but my waist is an inch or two smaller. Legs noticeably more toned.

FelixFelix · 30/06/2016 20:42

Can I join in? I've just finished W1 R1 this evening and I'm so happy I've finally done it!

tropical1 · 30/06/2016 21:18

The more the merrier Felix 😊
I've just done the run but have hurt myself somehow... it didn't go with a sharp pain or anything but within first couple of minutes my hip was hurting the spread round the top of my thigh, it'sreally quite painful. Am due to go again on Sunday but probably shouldn't run if it's still painful? Does anyone know?

TwuntingCat · 30/06/2016 21:44

Tropical I wouldn't. I hurt my leg running last Friday, I had 1 x 1 minute run left and carried on. I missed Monday's run, but decided to go out on Wednesday but had to turn back after 2 minutes it was hurting so much, I would leave your next run until you are completely pain free as I'm now at least a week behind plan which I could have probably avoided.

tropical1 · 30/06/2016 22:50

Twunting, that's what I'm thinking, I feel bad as I'm doing this with a friend and don't want to hold her back or get too far behind her in the programme but I know it makes sense.
It's annoying as I've been so keen to do this and am so pleased with the progress we've made. I did all the runs tonight and if it wasn't for the pain I'd be feeling very happy with myself 😭
